mabr
I seen on a previous post where craigum and I think it was Tonka mentioned Spooks. Do you guys fish these very often here? Reason I ask is it was one of my go to baits down south. My 4 largest fish 10-2,9-6,8-12, and another 8 all came off spooks. And I cant remember ever tying one on in MN in the 12 years ive been here. Thought about it a few times but tied other things for top water on for whatever reason. So should I get on the spook kick again?

CAMAN
Zara Spooks are actually illegal and are to be disposed of properly. You are welcomed to send them to me and I will make sure they get put into the proper place.
Wayne Ek
And I will take any of the left-overs. Especially if they are the sway-back model.

Superduty
I don't fish spooks a ton, but they definitely produce in clear water. One of my biggest fish of 2009 was caught on a spook. Hard to beat the sound and excitement of a big fish hitting a spook!

Dave S
I've actually caught my share of walleyes on a spook. Strange but true. The walleyes were chasing shiners and literally jumping out of the water hitting the bottom side of the docks. They were hitting anything that hit the water. Funny site to see a 2 lb walleye hit a 4" spook.
bassfshin24
spooks are actually one my favorite topwater baits for smallies. i actually prefer the rapala skitter walk to the spook. i like the rattle a little bit more with the rapala.
TurnUpTheFishing
Any lure you'd use down south will work on MN bass just as any lure we use here will work down there. A bass is a bass where ever it is.
mabr
OK. Now ill explain why I havent used them here. Its not that I didnt think they wouldnt work, but are they the best option? I typically have 5-6 rods rigged for what I think is going to be the best lures for that day. Of those rods im going to usually have a buzzbait tied on one of the rods. This has become my spook so to say here. Now im talking largemouth not smallmouth as I know smalleys typically are in a more open enviroment compared to largies so take that out of the equation. Is there a time when you would have a spook tied on as a go to bait, and what type of cover are you throwing to? Submergent weed growth? Weed lines? How deep of a weed line?Again I know it will work, but with the weeds being so close to the surface is why ive choosen to not throw it and chose another option. Im going to give it a try this year and have my partner fish something else to compare and see if the subtle presentation may be the way to go. Weed lines? How deep of a weed line? Morning and evening is when I use them most of the time, but also try it during the day if the conditions seem right for topwater. I have one tied on most of the time. I will try it anywhere I can as long as I'm not fighting the weeds. Docks and boats, logs, flats, sparse reeds, weed edges, open water, skipping under overhanging trees....you name it, I'll try it. Just be prepared to lose a couple, they are like candy to pike and musky.

Irish
I have had some success on spooks but as mentioned earlier pike love them as well. Pearl white has been my best color.

BobOmaha
Love "Spooks" too! Has anyone tried the new "Money Hounds" yet? They're LIKE a Spook, but are soft plastic... and when Texas-rigged, are completely weedless. OH BOY, a completely weedless "Spook" without the worry of your hooks getting fouled! I want to try 'em, but just haven't gotten around to picking any up. Have any of you tried them yet? Thanks! Bob Omaha, NE
