Just found out that walleye opener is a week later this year. Boy this really messed up my plans this year to fish the walleye and early bass opener. Now i dont have an excuse to forget mothers day and better be on top of it this year lol.

It worked out really, really well for me. For a week I thought I was going to be in California on business over the opener and got ready to cancel my plans. My day got a lot better today when I checked the dates on the DNR HSOforum and realized it was a week later so I still get to get out. grin

You guys know that the season dates are listed in the regulation booklets like a year in advance right? I'm not trying to be funny or rude. Maybe that will help someone plan better for next year's walleye, sauger, pike, largemouth and smallmouth bass-north of 53, inland lake trout, and stream trout in lakes opener.

It dont matter if i even looked and planed this a year ago. I graduate this spring from college and I have to move out the weekend of opener and start work that following monday possibly. Oh well..you cant always fish every opener. Just means i will have to slaughter the fish another day!

Not knowing what day the walleye opener is, is like forgetting your wife's birthday or aniversary. Totally, unforgiveable.

The fact is that a few years ago they passed a law that always leaves a weekend between opening weekend and Memorial Day weekend. They say it was done to enhance tourism and help out the resorts, but I think they did it to tick off mothers 5 out of 7 years. The opener and Mother's Day will not be on the same weekend when ever Memorial Day (Monday) is the 31st or the 30th.

Don't bring up forgetting your wife's birthday. I did that once and will never hear the end of it. In my defense her b-day was 2 days after 9-11 happened and I just plain forgot. Still unforgiveable.

Make sure you also remmeber to get things before Birthdays, Mothers day and Annivers. I was going to buy gifts for wife in the afternoon, got an ear beating for not doing it early. I still got it as planned but next year it will be early.
