kinda why i'm starting my own business i'm going to set it up for a 4 day work week

why more companys dont do that is beyond me

you get more done in a 10hr day plus less wasted time

i happen to be in asphalt work so if i get rained a day i have an extra day

it also saves your employees money and keeps them happier

i think

so i will hve alittle more time to get up to the great

Winnibigoshish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been in industrial automation sales most of my life, and just recently left a regional position with a large pneumatics manufacturer based in Colorado. Got tired of the big company politics.

I have started my own business as the midwest dealer for a local CNC manufacturer that offers a lower priced but feature rich machine platform for cutting sheet material in wood, metal and plastics. I'm betting that as the ecomomy slowly recovers I can generate business with shops that cannot afford the $100K to $200K nut for the full size machines. Wish me luck!

Gregg52. You'd probably want to be in the $5M range and up to be able to get the ROI out of our stuff. We're not for the start-ups.

My actual job is operating press brakes and turret presses. The past 2 years I've been in the office working as a Document Coordinator and MPS (Manufacturing Process Specialist). I just haven't gotten the title to go with the job yet. Sounds like it might not be too far away.

Just glad that I'm still working a set 40 hour week with 6 weeks/year of PTO. Been there for 20 years now.

Car salesman...talk about slow. I get one day off a week, thursdays, and sundays of course. I have 6 kids at home aged 4-14...so I always have a fishin buddy, winter or summer. I have been out a bunch on thursdays and sundays. With little kids it is hard, but if i don't get them involved in the outdoors, who will? not my wife. i agree, very cool topic.

Hey Hamms, I am a member of 1644, but I have been in Denver for the last few years. Can't seem to give up on my dreams of coming back home. Sorry to hear about the slow work. I have been fortunate, but the wages down here put a serious hurting on my hunting and fishing adventures.

I have been following the ride that McCarron has been taking you guys on, he needs to go while there is still a Union left to salvage. I worked residential for a long time, it is sad to see them losing market share there.

If you ever want to come down, I probably won't be able to get you work, but I could get you into lots of Lake and Rainbow Trout through the ice.

I belong to local 87 in St.Paul. I have been laid off for 11 months now.The I was never laid off before that point. The company I was with went to all management and I was one of the last 10 carpenters there.I did some package delivery over the holiday season as a driver helper for UPS to get out of the house a little bit.Hard to find work when most of the companies that had guys sitting will be calling back those same guys.

Finish carpenter, we build custom exec style lake homes. We have slowed but still busy, M-F 8-4:30 during the winter 7-5 in the summers, weekends only on the ice but get out 3-4 nights a week after work in the summer.

Esox, Do you do all interior finish work? Cabinets, doors, and trim?

I'm a Superintendant for a small Const. company and belong to local 851. We're down to 2 guys with 1 decent job that'll go into March. Right now I've heard several stories of guys looking for jobs and telling owners they'll work 40hrs. but you only need to pay for 32hrs. The job we do have I've seen BA's weekly from every trade making sure everybody is on the up and up.

I own my own Mortgage Lending company as you can tell by my signature. I've been a proud sponsor of this site for over 4 years now. Contrary to what many think, business has been very good and I have been busy. I work hard when I need to, but get plenty of down time to get out during the week, at night, or the occational weekend. Being self employed is the only way to go.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
