Will Marcum come out with a flat screen?

I was thinking as I was driving home tonight that it would be nice to see an LX5 unit with a flat screen. I don't want to knock anyone who owns a flat screen Vexilar or Humminbird, but I think an LX5 with a flat screen would be a the pinnacle of flashers. It is of my opinion, that the capabilities of that unit is a bit better than the other two brands top models, but I do love that flat screen display, especially on the Hummingbird with the digital readout. It would also be nice to see a rounded base on that type of unit. Not that it is that big of deal, but I did like the fact that my old FL18 used to fit nicely in a 5 gallon bucket.

On the camera side of the house quite possibly wink On the flat screen I would only want it if they could provide the same crisp, sharp and concise clarity currently displayed on the LX-5, if they can't achieve that, why mess with it? The LX-5 is perfect right now. grin

MarCum is always interested in continued feedback from it's loyal and growing customer base. Send em an email and let em know what you like and don't like and also what you would like to see in the future. MarCum's engineers love to ice fish and are constantly looking to improve there products and cost effectively to us the consumers. Not to say that their not working on a flat panel right now, very well could be but I know they don't rush stuff to market it has to be tested, re-tested, ran hard and evaluated before it can make the grade for release.

We shall see...

??? 160 feet of water ??? where would you be ice fishing with water that deep?

I was kind of wondering why marcum have not gone to a flat dial like hummingbird and vexilar models have, looks like the flat dial is just easier to read.

That is the only advantage right?

Personaly I'm not a big fan, my partner has a FL-20 flatscreen and I can see it out of the corner of my eye when we fish together. Honestly kinda bugs me having it flickering in the corner. For those that like the flat ones I hope you get your wish, I'm happy with the LX-5 as is.

Interesting thread.

If I had my wish, Flat Screen, new round carrier so it would fit into a five gallon bucket...and most of all, a whole new ducer holder thing. I own two Marcums, My first adjustment was to remove that little ducer arm and toss it away, bought a vex float and installed it. Works like a charm. Just my thoughts.

I like the arm over the float, no more moving transducer, it stays where you want it. If I was forced back to a Vex I would have to rig up an arm for it.

you find water that deep fishing for lakers

most people want the flatscreen so snow doesn't build up on the screen

On this Forum I met a guy who custom makes a magnifier for Marcums. Not only does it magnify it also keeps snow, water, and slush from collecting in the display cup. I absolutely love it. I wish I could recall the guys name and number. I know he usually shows up at large fishing contest or events and sells them. Just maybe he will read this.

I would consider a flat screen LX5 IF they use a similar case as they have now. The cases availible for the Birds and vex arnt to bad, but overall they need a better case to protect the surface on the flat screen. They just get scratched up to dang easy..

vex's have the arm also. they need to stick with what they have it's nice that all the brands have to copy each other and can't come up with there own looks

The vex arm and the marcum arm are very differnt. The arm on our old fl-18s was just a plastic straight piece the was not to durrable or adjustable. The arm on our lx-3s has seen ton of abuse the past 5 years. I dont baby my stuff(well maybe my TB rods). Just yesterday my Marcum fell off my trap twice, ooops.

Everyone has thier preferences but I never liked the float system. I tend to keep my transducer up higer in the hole. As high as I can as to not effect performance(yep, it does not need to be at the bottom of the hole). This definatly reduces fish/ducer tangles.

The flat screen certianly looks nice and I'd like to see a lx-5 with one. But only if the detail and clarity of the readout was not compromised...

Or you could just use the arm or eye bolt that's come with evey Vex ice setup sold for years.

Juat a thought.......

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
