What would you like someone to invent for ice fishing?

I love that thread on ice fishing about helpful hints and tidbits, so I was wondering what poeple want or could use that isn't out there yet or maybe people just don't know it exsists yet.

I've posted my idea before on what I wish someone would invent for ice fishing that would help me out. so here it is agin and wondering if other people have ideas too:

INVENTION: Some sort of transducer that sits in your ice hole anf floats, the size of a bobber, that produces some heat and shakes mildly to keep the hole from freezing.

I love ice fishing, probably more than summer fishing in my boat. With that said, this early ice period where you have to walk to your spot is very difficult. I have a crew at home, 6 kids, so a sled and 4 wheeler just are not in the budget. I would like to see someone invent a way to make the flip over pull easier. I have the wild outdoors 2 man, auger, heater & 20lb propane cilinder, minnow bucket, rod bags ect, ect. By the time everything is loaded up we are talking about a ton of weight, at least it feels like a ton anyways. Just something with skiis or something to make it pull easy.

This could be a “Million Dollar Idea” thread laugh

I always thought there could be a way to have a small 3” auger sistered to the main shaft somehow so that every hole you punched had one big one and one small one next to it for the transducer.

Another idea would be some sort of retractable mechanism for your camera/flasher cable.

Another idea would be an overhead pulley system for your transducer so that you can be fighting a fish and just reach up and pull a cord and up pops your transducer and keeps it hanging up in the air out of the way.

How about a collapsible hole scoop with a snap ring or D-ring attached. A scoop is one of those things that when you are hole hopping that you need, but always gets in the way.

i like tha small bit big bit deal dtro. It wouldnt even have to be attached for me to like it. a two or three inch adaptor for a drill would even be stellar

heck make a drill that could use the flasher battery

A grill top attachment for my buddy heater so I can cook on a flat surface.

Incorporate Reflectix into the design and build of a portable canvas. Love that stuff.

An electronic's tower that can be plugged into and attach multiple items (flasher, underwater cam.) but also be used as a flat surface. This would have to have a minimal footprint.

Retractable legs for my genz box that allows it to tilt and stick into the snow. Also prevents it from going down a 10" hole.

A well built windlass tip-up.

dtro,

I thought that many times about the camera cord myself. I think my camera would get a lot more use if it had that some kind of recoil on it. I would definitely end up plunking it down a lot more holes if I didn't have to wind/unwind the cord everytime I went to a different hole. It would be nice too if it had some kind of mechanism that would allow you to free wheel the cord out, as opposed to pulling it out a foot or two at time when in the spring loaded mode.

I was just thinking of this last nite. I got a Quickfish 6 ... but I got an older Otter sled I used to pull all my stuff out ... dam near died doin' it.

I was thinking, with all the different plastic-molded sleds they made (one even with giant hoof-prints), couldn't they make one with two giant "V" runners so when we got hard stuff like this last weekend, it probably wouldn't even sink down to the main-body of the sled ... less surface-area contact = easier pulling! grin

'Least ways, I thought it'd be more useful than giant hoof-prints. frown

Yeah, I think the idea waiting to happen is an electronics "hub" for portables and even perms. Have it fit the sleds and daisy chain a couple of batteries together and have a few outlets for your electronics, lights, etc. Build it in a nice frame with some storage in it etc.

a 100% spill proof minnow bucket with a ac/dc aerator.

a Lakewood case rod case with 1" more hight, so you don't need to loosen the rod handles before they go in.

an electric auger capable of running a 10" bit.

a single white LED with it's own switch and replaceable battery to stick on the wall above the holes.

I think Aquavu tried it, called a PowerTower. I liked the concept, but not the execution. Too big, wasted space around things, and not convenient. I had thoughts and sketches for one myself, but never followed through. Maybe this summer. I'd like it to hold a flasher head unit (w/o the bracket), a camera (w/o the bracket), (2) 9 amp batteries, 'ducer storage, a swingout light, a better way to store the camera cord and camera, slots for a couple of small tackle containers, and tubes for 2-4 rods, and a couple of pockets for junk.

Actually, if you could meld a Marcum IcePac and a Aquavu Powertower, I think you'd be close. Million dollar idea, indeed. Or maybe a couple thou, anyways.

What i need is a bigger sled to pull all my gear onto the lake, but with a car, there is limited space for a big sled in the trunk or back seat. I would like to see a sled that can fold down to 1/2 the size to fit into a car.

cut it in half put a piano hinge down the center walla you now can get a bigger sled in your car.

Sounds nice, but on warm days in feb/march when there is water on the ice...want to keep everything dry. Possibly with taller skiis added to keep 2-4" off the ice. I'm going to put some more thought into this one. thanks dan.

Oh I have another one:

An auger blade cover that utilizes the amazingly strong properties of a neodymium magnet.

Magnetic auger cover is already invented. However after reading all the warnings I would be afraid to use it.

What to Know About Proper Care and Handling of Neodymium Rare Earth Magnets Before Purchasing This Product!

The neodymium magnets we sell are extremely strong, and must be handled with care to avoid personal injury and damage to the magnets. Fingers can get severely pinched between two attracting magnets. Neodymium magnets are brittle, and can peel, crack or shatter if allowed to slam together. Eye protection should be worn when handling these magnets, as shattering magnets can launch pieces at great speed.

The strong Magnetic field of these magnets damages magnetic media such as floppy disks, credit cards, magnetic I.D. cards, cassette tapes, video tapes and similar items. They can also damage televisions, VCRs, computer monitors and other CRT electronics. NEVER bring neodymium magnets near any of these items.

Children should not be allowed to handle neodymium magnets as they can be dangerous. Small magnets pose a choking hazard and should never be swallowed or inserted into any part of the body.

NEVER allow neodymium magnets near a person with a pacemaker or similar medical device. The strong magnetic fields of the magnet can affect the operation of such devices.

Neodymium magnets are brittle and prone to chipping and cracking. They do not take kindly to machining. Neodymium magnets will lose their magnetic properties if heated above 17S·F (80·C). Neodymium magnets should never be burned, as burning them will create toxic fumes.

Yes and lead sinkers are also known to cause cancer in California wink

The magnets are awesome and have SO many great uses. I have to admit though I've personally witnessed what happens when the attraction isn't controlled. They do indeed shatter and fly everywhere. laugh

What is the name of that auger cover?

Very interesting thanks, looks like a simple attachment of the magnets. I was thinking a bit more involved for a retail product.

I need to dink around with it a little bit more. I tried it last year mounting the magnets with epoxy and it worked great. The cover stayed on very good, but when it got really cold, the epoxy got brittle and cracked so I gave up.

Going to revisit this.....

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
