What have you dropped down the "Black Hole" of ice fishing!

Dropped my cell phone once when I stood up and it hit the floor of the house and the phone went into the far corner hole, so I dived into the corner and scooped my hand into the hole and managed to grab it at the bottom of the hole. Took the battery out and put the phone above the heater for three hours, then I put it back together and it worked! grin

I've lost multiple pairs of pliers down hole usually you hear the "plop" and then have to look around to see whats missing.

Last year my buddy bought a brand new Jason Mitchell Perch rod and put a Tica reel on it. Took it to Mille Lacs to use for the first time and accidently kicked it down the hole after one to many adult beverages

I had received a leatherman for a Christmas present. I took it out to the fish house in the original packaging. As I was struggling to remove it from the packaging, I ripped it open with all my force and the leatherman went flying, hit the fish house canvas in front of me, and down the hole she went. I didn't even get a chance to use the dumb thing.

I never have to worry about a lack of structure under my house because there's usually a pile of about 50 ice scoopers by the end of the season. The fish gravitate right to them!

I'm bringing a big magnet on a string this year. Hopefully that doesn't doesn't get sucked down the hole or I'll have to get some scuba gear.

Here's one story thats unreal:

A friend of mine brought his brand new battery powered remote controlled Lambergini Cuntoush to a rented house on Mille Lacs

so he could run it on the ice outside the house.

So he puts the battries in the car and places it on the floor, then he puts the batteries in the remote and all of a sudden the car takes off to the far corner and you guessed it right down the hole it went. He dove for it but could not get a grip on it. It also had the lights on and you could see it down on the bottom of the lake off to the side a little bit. Tried to hook it, but that didn't work.

Still laugh about that every time I think about it! grin

Yeah, plenty of scoopers. That's why I get the cheap ones, I use to use the nice metal ones but figured out what it feels like to drop $15 down a hole and started buying the 2$ ones instead. Haven't dropped anything too expensive down a hole, but I lost a nice Dave Genz crappie stick with a Symetre on it when a northern or bass grabbed it when I wasn't paying attention. That was a $100 piece of structure added to the lake.... frown

huh, thats a new one.

I have dropped a couple phones down the hole. Both were hooked and brought back up and worked till it was time for the free upgrade.

Somehow I always seem to drop a full bottle of premium down the hole once a year. frown cold fingers on cold glass equal bad idea. Finally, I started using bottle blankets and the problem hasn't happened since.

I kicked my ice jig box into the hole one time. Really lit up the Vexilar as all my jigging raps and swedish pimples were fluttering down to the bottom. Another time alone in someone else's shack, I dropped their ice scoop down a hole that had a set line in it. As it got toward bottom suddenly the bobber went down. Yep, the falling scoop got hooked on the single hook and I pulled it all the way back up without losing it! Flashlights, yep. One time when I was about 14 I caught a nice 4 pound walleye. Took it over to the next house where some older friends were boozing it up. One of the guys says, hey let me hold that thing. He grabs it too far back on the belly and Down the hole it went. He said (in a drunken voice) Oops, down the hole.....

Phone, scoops, couple Mag lights. Like others, the phone hit about 5 different things before perfectly centering itslf down the hole.

Waiting for somebody to mention the keys to their vehicle. Man that would be a pain.

My uncle used to use hot boxes insted of thermal tipups. Inside of the box there is a small lantern and one night he accidently knocked that down the hole. He ran back into his icehouse and grabbed a stiff jigging pole and tied the biggest spoon he could find to it. after a few minutes of jigging over the hole he hooks it and starts bringing it up. His buddy comes outta the ice house so my uncle being the joker he is, starts playing it up as a big fish. My uncles buddy rushes over and starts scooping chips out of the hole and coaching my uncle. After a few minutes of fighting he gets it up to he hole and his buddy plunges his hand down to grab the "fish" and comes up with a lantern. My uncle starts rolling on the ice laughing but his buddy wasnt exactly thrilled with the chatch

My wife used to scuba dive a lot and said that there were a lot of neat things down there. Her dad found two wedding rings one time, through word of mouth found out who they belonged to. I never thought of where they came from until this thread started. I'll have to learn to scuba dive so I can have all this good stuff. Sounds like I would have enough ice scoups to last a lifetime!

I have the cheap pliers/knife leatherman type tool. I had the largest knife blade extended, and it slipped and went down the hole. Well, when something hits the water at an angle, it tends to go into the water at the same angle..anyway, the point of the knife hits the edge of the hole, and the plier end drops in and hits the other side of the hole, so the tool is 'hung up' in the hole about six inches under the surface. Just reached in and grabbed it...

The moral of the story, I suppose, is that the tool is right around 8" long when fully deployed.

Dropped my jigging lure box (raps, spoons etc) down the hole. It fell out of my pocket as I leaned back, box hit the floor, then slid into the hole. I shoved my arm as far as I could down into hole and just barely touched it with my fingertip. Then I watched it spiral down outta sight. Almost lost my wedding ring reaching for an eye, but bent my finger at the last second. The ring sat balanced on my fingertip over 30 ft of water with a walleye zinging the line around the hole. The ring and the walleye both went home with me. Haven't worn the ring ice fishing since.

LOTW last year my buddy grabbed a smoke and a stealthy walleye pulled the rod down the hole without any of the rest us even hearing a sound. Made for a darn good laugh.

40 mins later my Dad catches a beauty walleye out of the hole right next to the one the rod was lost in.

guess that ol walleye was hungry and didnt plan on traveling very far for a meal that day. Cuz he had two hooks in his mouth. two minnows sticking out of it.. and a real nice fishing rod attached to all the line sticking from his face!

Buddy got his rod back. Fish got fried for being lazy.. (lol) .. and the beers were tasting mighty fine after that!!

We have two of the cabelas huts that you put your own floor in. I was standing inside holding the top up while my partner handed me the poles. He thought I was taking the poles from him as he handed them into me. Unfortunately they were going down the hole. Lost 3 before he figured out I wasn't grabbing them.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
