Dark Cloud
I cant wait for all the Armchair Sallys next monday! Time for that first blemish on SuperFarves record! We are 4-2 and you guys could easily be 4-2 also. We are a few plays from being undefeated also. If Peterson goes for over a hundred yards and Farve survives the game i'll be surprised. Big Ben is throwing 315 yardas a game and our O-line is playing well... Maybe I just put my foot in my mouth but I'll eat anything if I have a little hot sauce... Big Dave2
Ya, we throw deep all game long It doesn't matter how many times you do it in a game, it is still not a hail mary. Do you actually think if we had a game winning lead, untouchable by a TD, 1:56 remaining, we would have thrown for a 58 yard completion on the opening play? No, but that still does not make it a hail mary Rice look smooth, didn't he? Walker was a yard away? ????????Looked pretty smooth to me Came out blazing with a deep pass just to put on a Randy Moss styling showing for the crowd was all it was? Nope.....Vikings needed some yards and that play was the one that was open OK? IMO if you have to break out a long bomber of a pass under the 2:00 min warning, with the other proven tricks we have in our bag, you got your self a "Hail Mary" attempt . Not mention to a WR like Rice. He is now where near a Randy Moss. Moss's third year he was over 4000 yards. Rice should break 1000 after this year. Moss had a 1300 in his first season alone. A hail Mary is when you throw a ball up for grabs to whoever can catch it and hope that if someone does catch it, it is your guy. The play that you are referring to was a STRIKE to the reciver. No different than the plays on the Randy Moss video you supplied.

Its been all over that Rice was running a clear out route for Shiancoe underneath but when Favre saw Rice singled up he decided to take a shot. I must be watching a different NFL season because i don't recall the steelers knocking off teams better than the vikings have. I recall the steelers losing to teams that are worse than some of the teams the vikings have played......
FISHINGURU
forsure...the play call was for shiancoe...rice is just supposed to be a decoy to draw coverage away from shanks...but when you got 1 on 1 with their number 4 back up corner you take a shot deep....great awareness by favre
traveler
No way shape or form is that a "Hail Mary" just a good read and a very timely deep ball. Bring on Pittsburg...!

Shack
Again, I said by definition and also IMO on what a Hail Mary means. If it was not for: "> " type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"> "> " type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"> We would not even have the term Hail Mary if not for Roger (the Dodger) Staubach And Drew Pearson. The plucked out the lead from the Vikes in this 75 playoff game. I did not see a cluster of WR's huddled in the end zone (excuse me, Red Zone) or anywhere. Again, IMO anything under the 2 min warn, a deep pass when not the going way to move the ball, is an attempt at desperation. A fine time to say a Hail Mary prayer while the ball is in the air. When I seen Favre cock back, I had doubt. I am sure the completion of that pass was very questionable even in Favre's mind when he saw an Rice change his route. With Walker hugging and tugging, that was a long shot IMO. Great play though. Hail Mary   Use hail mary in a Sentence See web results for hail mary See images of hail mary –noun 1. Ave Maria. 2. Also called Hail Mary pass, Hail Mary play. a long forward pass in football, esp. as a last-ditch attempt at the end of a game, where completion is considered unlikely. Origin: 1300–50; ME, trans. of ML Ave Maria Any QB we have had the last 8 years, throwing deep to a player like Rice for a game saving play, would have plunged into defeat The deep pass is just not what it was even 10 years ago with the QB's and WR's going now. Only a few have it, to do it with constancy. Farve has the aim and arm, but I still feel uneasy (especially in a game determining play) during that hang time. Also it was stated right away that Favre and AP where the main situation because of the lack of potential we have in WR's right now. I am impressed Rice did catch and hang on to that ball, knowing he was going to get smacked.
Swimbait2009
Into one on one coverage, I don't think you classify that as an "unlikely completion", especially to your tallest receiver who had the hot hand that game.
BlueLundFishrman
so was a "great, on-target pass", or a long pass downfield, that the receiver made a good/great adjustment on to catch?
hugonian1
If I remember correctly, the Ravens were off sides on that play. A savy veteran Q.B. has to take a shot at that point. He has nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Slowhand
Shackie, love your enthusiam for The Purple, but that wasnt a Hail Mary; there was around 3:00 min to go and we were down by 1 w/ timeouts. I am sure if you ask the man who threw the ball he'd say it wasnt a Mary.
Dark Cloud
I think you are taking the Vikes a bit lightly DC. They may suprise both you and the Steelers even more so if they are healthly. Who have the Steelers beat this season??????? Not takeing anyone lightly. I read through the football forum and see the same type stuff as the local Giant fans around here - win some games and there ready for the SB. In the grand scheme of things I could care less. I have bigger worries like which stand to hunt in the morning and steelhead or walleyes. Just fireing some shots over the bow.... Oh by the way, I was talking to my friend Jerome the other day, we are running out of places to put these. Could you guys store one for us? harvey lee
Thats old news. We are talking about what you can do now and not what you did in the past. Heck, Green Bay has those also yet they were beat by a team without any. Look out for the losers.
Swimbait2009
Careful, Pittsburgh has more than anyone...We don't need to keep yours though, we plan on winning our own one of these days (hopefully one of these days in the near future!)! Surface Tension
Farve looks for the one on one with Rice and will take advantage of that every time. If that is deep down field all the better. Call it want you want. I'll take the win but, if I were the coach there wouldn't have been much celebration in the locker room. Having said that if I were the coach we'd be 0-6. A nail biter is a game between two evenly matched teams played down to the wire. In this case our defense just about handed the game over in the 4th. If it were just one game it wouldn't be so bad but weakness in the D is a pattern that leaves me weak. We could easily be 4-2 right now. From a coaching point of view, win or lose your look back on the game and work the things that need improvement. You can bet those weaknesses are going to be exploited in games to come. So as a fan if your just happy with a win that is fine.I'd like to win next week and the weeks to follow, your not going to do that if your team doesn't improve.
