For all the Negative Nancys

Is this a common occurunce around the league or is it just a mn deal to pick apart your team even after a win?

It's a MN thing. Everybody is preparing themelves for another 1998-like playoffs.

BTW, I am a GB fan but I gotta say Farve is looking pretty darn good. I know he just loves having AP on his side. Something he has never had.

Be interesting to see MN and NO in the championship. Maybe then we can all talk about "sharper's revenge" instead of "Favre's revenge". Be a fun game to watch.

I have never been a Brad Childress fan......BUT.......I disagree with the talk that he is TOO conservative. When a coach has a 14 point lead and has supposedly the best RB in the league and has invested as much money as the vikings have in their offensive line, and supposedly has a solid defense, he would be a fool to open up the offensive playbook and risk interceptions, fumbles, sacks or any other misfortune. He does exactly what a coach in his position should do, run the ball to run time off of the clock and keep it out of the hands of your opposition. Remember, the Vikes have Adrian Peterson. The team is just as likely to score a TD handing off to him as it is passing.

When have I ever said I coached anything involving kids? Last I checked this was a "football" forum? wink

Yes, we are 6-0, but I guess I have my sites set on the Super Bowl. I have it set on the SB every year.

I guess you could be a Vike's fan and not care if they make it to the play off or not, but come on! grin I know everyone is different and is entitled to their opinion on how things are, but again, "come on". I am not saying anyone's is right or wrong, but what is the point being a "fan" (not just following) a "PROFESSIONAL TEAM", then just not having any having any feeling/passion when they bail in the first game of the playoff's.

You think MN picks apart the Vikes, do some digging on other NFL teams. FYI, this is fishing"Minnesota".com. If you base all your judgment on the total populous of what Vike's fan do after the game on what is read on here, you are probably right. grin If look around, New England fans are some of the toughest on their team when online wink

I am not looking for a perfect season. That would be icing on the cake. I am looking for a chance to see the Vike's make it to the Super Bowl and win in my life time.

Ya wonderful we made it to 6-0. Great! What now? The DL list later this week will show what this game really meant. In the end our D made our OF work to a point where they should have been just floating. It cost us. How many more games will it take working our OF line down to the last couple seconds, when they blew it out the first half? 1,2, 3 games? Should getting to 6-0 or even 7-0 cost us AP, Harvin, when the D could have worked just on average? For the "Favre is not going to stay healthy" crowd, how much/many unnecessary sacks, grab downs, or plain body usage in game time needs to occur before something happens?

I guess I just love football and I love the Vike's. It is what I enjoy and like to dig a little deeper than maybe the next guy, but not ask much as some. smile

Go Vikes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Favre had a funny exchange with Vikings coach Brad Childress late in the victory over the Ravens. Childress came over and told him that momentum was shifting to the Ravens and the Vikings needed to finish drives with touchdowns. Favre said his response was: "No s---, Sherlock."

Atta boy, Favre. Only way that could have been better is if he had mentioned the plays being called.

No matter, I’m still enjoying the victory and cannot say a negative thing until there is a loss.

Speaking of “fans”….

I drove through Ames IA on Saturday, and I saw something at Iowa State that I’ve NEVER seen in MN. It was an amazing site to look at the sea of yellow and red on campus and tailgaters as far as the eye could see.

You just don’t get that here, college or pro.

I agree. The first time I tailgated at the Humpty dome I was quite disappointed. I've been to MN, GB, CHI, and DET. I've been on the campuses of WI, OSU, NEB, and VT. MN is by far the worst football environment. Not ripping on anything, just calling it like I see it.

What you need is a nice new open air stadium (NOT inside the 494/694 loop)with a huge parking lot for tailgating so everyone can be together and not in various business' parking lots. The new Gophs stadium was a step in the right direction.

I hope every game comes down to the last few seconds. Its a lot more fun to watch than New Englands 59-0 win yesterday.

The only issue with that is that the Vikes will end up with more injuries trying to stop the last drive that will beat them.

I would rather see them coast to a victory and not hhave the injuries.

I loved the last drive that we ended up with a field goal. We could have passed 3 times and probably ended up with a TD. Yes they could have intercepeted a pass but Farve could find a reciever with 3 tries. If no score then, kick the field goal.

That run up the gut stuff just does not seem to work.

That would have forced Balt. to score a touchdown to win and not a FG. Yes it worked out only because a rather easy FG was missed. One cannot count on too many of them to be missed.

Vikes had injuries to their #1 CB and their nickel back yesterday, and had to resort to putting a special teamer out there, who Baltimore picked on.

If they avoid the injuries, yesterday's game is a blowout, not a nailbiter. Rather than being a negative, I think yesterday's win against a terrific Baltimore team is a great victory.

They'll be tested again Sunday against a pass-happy Pittsburgh team. Better hope Winfield is healthy!

Regarding the last drive's play calling, someone earlier put it very well: Handing off to AP has JUST as much chance of scoring a TD as putting the ball in the air. Plus the benefits are: the clock doesn't stop and MUCH lower chance of turnover. Now if we were running Edgerrin James out there, and keeping the ball out of Favre's hands then we're on to something. But plain and simple, AP has consistently shown that he is the most prolific play maker on our offense. Yeah Favre's done it on another team(s) probably more than AP due to time spent in the league, but AP has earned the responsibility to give it a go.

I think the tailgating problem is two-fold. The location of the stadium without huge parking areas for a really big gathering is one. The other is the vast array of things that people are interested here in the Twin Cities. In Ames, IA football is all they've got! I lived in Omaha and Cedar Rapids, and there's not much going on compared to up here. People lead very diverse lives up here, and have more choices at hand.

As far as thinking that we pick the team apart too much, this is not a Minnesota only thing. There is a forum somewhere where fans of every part of the country discusss, complain, cheer, and speculate about their favorite team/hobby/politician. That is what the internet is all about! Until the team shuts the other guys out and gives up less than 100 yds offense while creating 4 turnovers, there will be something that they can improve on. That's just the way it goes. I am happy to be a fan that likes to dig in and analyze (pick apart) the games. I know that there are all kinds of fans out there. As long as we're all fans I'm good with it!

Not enough bandwith available....

Just to nit-pick a little...

We're 5-2 with T-Jack or even sage for that matter.....

Viking fans are some of the best most radical fans in the NFl try going to a game or downtown with the limited space available to tail gate..it was nuts again! Once we get the New outdoor stadium we'll get rid of the few pansys we have left...

Chili did another outstanding job of coaching Sunday it's not pop warner and they don't cave into fans that think they understand the game better than WE think we do...like stated above 33 points again ain't conservitive and ANYBODY who thinks we should have passed and risked, one an incompletion stopping the clock, or an interception/sack turnover instead of running the ball late in the game on the final drive is a RETARD...Period! the draw was great call in that situation

Carry on go Vikes!

Could not agree more pier, I had to put the ol man in line yesterday in that manner also on that play. But the fans did win last year when Tj got the hook after 2 games. Wouldnt it be nice to have had TJ finish out the season last year playoff or not. We would have a better idea of exactly we have with TJ.

I got a kick out of one of the post game shows calling Favres pass to Rice as a desparation hail mary pass. That pass was right on the money and a great catch by Rice, who by the way, is really coming on this year.

By definition it was a Hail Mary pass. Just one that was spot on and thrown by Favre wink

It’s quite obvious that all the hype that has ever been spewed about Favre is entirely true and he could possibly be the best QB to play the game. He has single handedly made everyone on the offense look that much better and In some cases resurrected a receiver from the dead.

With anyone else (that we have available) taking snaps, this team is .500 at best.

Just think, they could go .500 from here on out and still finish 11-5, that is sweet, and just personally for me that is enough to call the Favre deal a success. Most people probably feel they need to get to the SB, but I don’t feel the same way. Perhaps I’d be disappointed in not winning a playoff game, but understand how hard that is to do in the NFL. All it takes is a bad break here or there and your season is over.

"Negative Nancys"

I get a kick out of Dtro laugh

First it was indulging ones self in Fantasy Football and now hashing out the high and the lows during and after the game here in the FM/HSo Football Forum grin

Whats next?

People that spend the money to attend a game and cheer are??? grin

I declare the "Negative Nancy" title/crown to Dtro laugh

Enjoy The Season

After every game the classic cliché said by the players on the winning team is that they’ll enjoy the win tonight but get to work tomorrow for the next game. Sometimes I wish fans would abide by the same rhetoric. Heck, I think fans should wait even longer until they look ahead to the next game. However, some Vikings fans weren’t enjoying the miracle win against the 49ers properly the very day it happened!

(By the way, if you’re a 49ers fan, how sick are you of seeing the Brett Favre miracle pass? Do you just have to avoid Sports Center until next week? I know I would.)

Anyway, after the game a lot of Vikings fans were pumped but I also heard a lot of negative things. The game never should have been that close. The defense shouldn’t allow two 80 yard drives for touchdowns. Brad Childress and his razor need to get reaquainted. The special teams bit the Vikings in the butt again. Sure, the final drive was nice, but overall the offense stunk. Where was Adrian Peterson? The offensive line allowed too many sacks.

Frankly, I don’t disagree with most of those takes, but as Mike Tice once said, “Enjoy the season!

Every team needs a little (or a lot of) luck to win some games during the season. I could argue that if the 49ers won on Sunday then they simply “got lucky.”

The 49ers gained momentum simply because Phil Loadholt forgot that blocking during a field goal is a good thing. Also, let’s not forget that before the defense gave up the go ahead touchdown, they got a drive stopping interception. The only problem was that the play started a half second after the play clock expired, so it never happened. It was the right call by the refs, but wasn’t it also lucky for the 49ers?

Whether it’s by luck, skill or both, these improbable wins should be embraced, not scrutinized. And I certainly won’t apologize for them, especially since the Vikings tend to end up on the wrong side of these type of crazy games.

Do you think New England is apologizing for winning a game because a Bills return man made a dumb decision and turned the ball over with two minutes to go in the game? Do the Broncos care they won a game thanks to a miracle tipped ball reception for 80 some yards? Indianapolis won a game in which they held the ball for less than one quarter. Twice this season now the Bears basically won because the opposing team’s kicker had a Chuck Knoblauch sized melt down. But you know what? All those games went into the Win column.

That’s the NFL for you. Most games simply come down to turnovers and big plays. It’s sad but true. You don’t win NFL games, you survive them. The Vikings survived on Sunday and I was ecstatic.

I’m a results kind of guy. Whether it’s ugly, lucky, miraculous or a blow out the only real stat that matters is the Win and that’s what the Vikings got. Yes, the Vikings will need to improve on some things in the coming weeks, but that’s for the Vikings work on. I’m just going to sit back and marvel at this win...until Thursday. Then it’s time to look ahead to the dreaded border battle.

Like I said, everyone has their thing. If it’s being a Vikes rube, sweet. Nothing wrong with that. You can gobble up the sports page and eat it for breakfast if you want for all I care. laugh

Fact of the matter is that a happy Vikings fan is hard to find.

Newsflash******THEY WON THE GAME*******

Shack you give me way to much credit for hunting down that article and stealing ideas. Can’t a guy have an original thought anymore?

“Enjoy the Season” is a widely used phrase. Heck they probably used it a dozen times already today on KFAN.

oh and Pier 3-3 at best LOL

I guess I am a "Doubtful Nancy" as the Vikes have taught me to be. Way too many times I have got all ramped up for this great season and then, well we all know the ending.

The saying "Enjoy the Season" is a good one. It's the line Vikes fans are used too as it always ends too early.

I'm not sure I agree with your definition of hail mary pass. This was a deep pass thrown right on the money to a single covered receiver who catches it in stride. We didn't call them hail marys when Randy Moss was catching them.

Ya, we throw deep all game long smirk

Do you actually think if we had a game winning lead, untouchable by a TD, 1:56 remaining, we would have thrown for a 58 yard completion on the opening play? smirk

Rice look smooth, didn't he? Walker was a yard away? crazy

Came out blazing with a deep pass just to put on a Randy Moss styling showing for the crowd was all it was? confused

OK?

IMO if you have to break out a long bomber of a pass under the 2:00 min warning, with the other proven tricks we have in our bag, you got your self a "Hail Mary" attempt wink . Not mention to a WR like Rice. He is now where near a Randy Moss. Moss's third year he was over 4000 yards. Rice should break 1000 after this year. Moss had a 1300 in his first season alone.

That I agree. They occurred all the time.

I agree the score doesn't matter, what matters is whether they put up a W or a L in the win loss column. If the Vikes went the entire 16 game season some year 16-0 and won all 16 games by 1 point, who cares?

But we won't.

If the Vikes beat Pittsburgh and Big Ben and then the Packers at home, then yes I will be a believer.
