I have an old zercom flasher. thinking about purchasing a new one, but cannot decide between a Vexlar fl-18, a humingbird 45 or one of the marcum models. I guess i was wondering if one was better than the others. justs want to hear peoples thoughts on this

Hmm. This is a new topic. I don't think this has ever been discussed before. sick

Vexilar. Hands down. Everyone here will agree with me 100%.

Seriously, this has been beaten to death, but I am a FL18 fan. Ice and boat. Love it.

My 2 centavos.

I've had a chance in the past year to use an Ice-55, Fl-20, Fl-18, Lx-5, and Lx-3 (I own an Lx-3).

All of these flashers will work and be a huge upgrade from the Zercom.

My personal favorite is the Lx-5, but you really can't go wrong with any new flasher, they all preform their job very well, just pick the one that has the "gadgets" you like. Both the Fl-20 and the Ice-55 have large flat screens which are very nice for day light veiwing and to prevent snow build up. Marcum is a very nice clean unit with the softcase and also has a very nice battery charging/monitering system. Vexilar offers things like a tackle box and rod holder on the flasher.

In the end, find something you like or find the best deal and go with it!

i have a showdown and its ok i wish i woulda bought a vexilar or x67c but oh well...

I also have a Showdown and don't mind it a bit... The vertical display is nice and it is very sensitive to identifying your bait and fish... Hopefully someday there will be a color display option in the future... smile

KTapper .... the Vexilar "Cool Blue" conversion runs $59. Any model Vexilar can be converted. It is especially beneficial to individuals who deal with Color Blindness issues.

You can also order the packaged as a custom configuration straight from Vexilar, in any model, and any package, even the reconditioned models.

I find it a huge benefit to me personally day or night. Much more clarity for me and anyone with CB issues are quick to see the difference. To non color blind individuals it is just a new nifty Cool Color configuration, but to a CB person..it is a major benefit in a flasher display.

You're Crazy if you get rid of your Clearwater Classic..worst mistake I ever made... if you do I'll be first in line to purchase it from you tho!
I'm still using mine, I just can't see replacing something that works so good. It has to be about 15 years old and still works as good as the day I bought it. Who needs color anyway?

A couple of weeks ago I decided to take the FL-8 hole hoping and left the LX-5 in the house with a buddy. About 1.3 seconds was all I needed to wonder how in the world I fished with this thing!! When its what you have you make due! I can tell you that the lx-5 was by my side a short time later!! I realize that its comparing an s-10 to a Tundra but back in the day the FL-8 was the hot item and at the time it was my trusty partner that was always buy my side. The LX-5 has taken over that role and was taken for granted as of late. Funny how much better your electronics really are once you try going backwards to what was the best instead of always looking forward to what will be the best!

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
