My collection...

Hey Scoot,

First off, nice to see you as a moderator on the board, looking forward to good things to come from the Northwest!

Nice collection, but no jigs? I still think the jig 'n' pig approach for muskies is far overlooked. I've it said before, but how many muskies are caught by bass guys on the J'n'P?

10K- I just used some spray paint, but I finished it with good finish, to be sure it stays put.

Chris, thanks- good to be aboard! I totally agree and I forgot to add in any of my jigs. I don't have many of them, maybe three or four, but I always have a jig rigged up and ready to go. It's a great come back lure and I've had good success with it on shallow water fish that I've spotted, but not got to show any interest in my initial offering.

That's ok, Rob- we all knew you were really sick in the head! grin

Maybe you should take a picture of them so I can give it to a co-worker of mine. She's a clinician who treats compulsive shopping, and she had a real hoot when I showed her the picture of my lures. She'd really have a field day with you your lures...

Ain't that the truth.

In my defense things do tend to pile up when you do something for 25 years...

What's funny, though, is how many baits I have that are the same bait in different colors, or even multiple baits of the same color. I have a couple dozen 10" Jakes, and probably that many 10" Believers. Plus I *hate* running out of baits I like if they aren't made anymore, and they do wear out eventually. I'm down to my last 3 or 4 Stidham's Z-180s, and it's going to be a sad day when I wear out the last one. My last original Bagley DB-06 finally bought the farm last summer. Most of my wooden Magic Makers are getting pretty thrashed. My big M&G Lunker Tandems are on their last legs too. I wedged one on a rock last fall, and I seriously contemplated going swimming in 45 degree water before I finally got it out.

I can't say I can justify every lure, but I can make a pretty good case for a lot of them smile

Fortunately for me I have two things in my favor: 1.) My wife knew what she was signing on for when we got married. 2.) She has a serious black shoe habit, so I can throw that back at her when she makes comments about my fishing collection.

Cheers,

Rob Kimm

Now that's some wisdom, thank god my wife has horses, they make fishing look cheap!

My wife's got a shoe thing too. Unfortunately for me, her shoe deal isn't limited to black shoes! I suppose it's no worse, but how many stinkin' Born shoes can one human being own!?! I really don't wish the worst of this bad economy on anyone, but if Born went out of business, I'd sleep better at night...

Scoot, Jeez... Born shoes are expensive! you have to get her shopping at payless then for every shoe she buys at payless it will justify 3 new baits from teh savings!

It's ok guys, my wife has a shoe, purse coat and now an eye glasses fettish.

I always keep my eye out for wooden magic makers. I haven't ever been able to find any. Some day I hope to hit the mother load at a garage sale or swap.

Pretty iompressive scoot. This is by no means a smart*ss question - what percentage of them have you had action or caught fish on? I am prolly in the 80-ish to a hundred baits range and I FINALLY need more than just my two hands to count which ones I've caught fish on. The rest of them sure caught the heck outta me though!! crazy

I always use to be a bit crabby when the Mrs. and kids didn't get me any musky lures for gifts. Now after a few years I'm pretty well into the Christmas aint for dads deal - also I think it would be best for all parties if she had no idea what the cost of each lure is. I already have a tough sell job on why there are 35 dozen duck decoys in the garage!!

Take care - Erik

... 35 dozen duck decoys in the garage!!

I did a quick visual "once through" and I counted 48. However, there are at least a dozen new lures there that I purchased since last season ended and keeping track of which bucktails I've caught fish on is tough for me. I know what type of bucktail I caught many of the fish on (e.g., I got the 48 on Leech on a small, french bladed one, the 50 on LOW on a DC10, etc.), but exactly which one I used was a bit of a guess, so the 48 is probably give or take five or so. But, about half of them have boated fish for me. Getting more to the point I assume you're driving at, about 3/4 of the fish boated have been caught on about a dozen of those lures in the picture.

Did you mean "35 decoys" or did you mean to say "35 dozen decoys"? wink Wow! You're really sick!!! I'm glad I don't have any crazy collections like that... grin

On a funny little note.......and Rob K can probably attest to this one. Last spring when I was talking with Pearson, he was getting his boat out of storage and cleaned up for the year. While doing so, he found a shade over 150 baits in there he didn't know he had!! He is forgetting about more lures than most of us have!!!

Scoot -

JR is right on - before my musky sickness took center stage ducks had my full attention. For me its an accomplishment just to get all the decoys wet each year. grin

Back to the question I asked, I sort of set a dumb goal for myself to try to catch fish on 5 new lures this year. I wonder if it wouldn't be smarter to dial it back a bit so that I don't spend so much time staring at the tackle box looking for the magic bullet!!

I will catch a fish on a jig this year!! sick

Hiya -

Bret - Pearson's collection is frightening. Every time I went to his house in Sauk he'd try to pawn off a bunch of baits on me. It was something like buying a Rolex from a guy on the street in Times Square. One time - and I will swear to this - I walked into a used outdoor gear store, saw a bunch of muskie lures on the racks, and knew instantly they were Pearson's. Gawd-awful colors, weird lure parts stuck together... Scary stuff.

Scoot - Born eh? My wife's got a Merrel thing. They aren't exactly cheap either.

Hugo - only one way to catch a fish on a jig: use them smile

I'll try and shoot some pics of my office...was going to try last night, but I had a rough day at work, and then an important conference between the couch and the seat of my pants...

Cheers,

Rob Kimm
