10's is a big as I throw. I have thrown 13's a couple of times, but didn't like them as much. I have seen a new bucktail out there that has 18's for blades, but that has got to be like pulling a cement truck through the water. In fact, this upcoming year, I think I will mainly be throwing 9's and 8's.

Gonna make a double 13 for this season. I saw those #20s, almost 6" long I believe. Garbage can lids will be next.

i got some big stainless blades last year and painted them up in a firesnake and snakeskin patterns. the size 20. and with a couple Heckler modifications normally used on the 13's and 10's by Heckler to reduce pull they didn't pull so hard really. grin ... 13's pull like 8's.

If they're not pulling as hard, they're probably not putting off as much vibration either. But still displacing more water and giving the appaearance of "big"

that is what i believe. i know the thump is reduced. as far as vibration i can't be sure but i would think it's a higher pitch. they spin faster which should give that result. and the water displaced should still simulate a fish tail swimming.

basicly i was trying to figure out a way to use the larger blades, 10-13's, in bucktail form with a downrigger set up without them pulling away. normal they would pull free unless it was an adjustable clip so tight i could almost not release it. i doubt a fish would stay hooked. probably just lift the weight, lol. those doubles really throw off a lot of everything from flash and contrast to profile. kind of a natural flasher all by itself. i tried them on a cheapo set up a buddy borrowed me and they worked just fine. then i tried them on a normal speed troll from 5mph through 7mph and i was impressed. didn't get fish on them but i did have what looked like it was a strike. work in progress smile as anything... test : test : test.

edit, not to mention the normal pulling the weight back. 8 pounder , maybe needed 12 or more to keep depth right. i only had the eight. modified, the eight was pretty good, but i did'nt have a counter to check with my wide beam.
