Advice on Purchasing new Equipment

As most of you know...I lost 95% of my equipment when my house was ripped off. Well...Time to restock.

I looked at some combos the other day...liked the Frabill Combos and then the usual junk. Seemed like 80% of the rods had no backbone and like a willow branch. The Frabill combos were in the $29 dollar range. I usaully fish with 3-4 of my kids so I need 4-5 panfish set-ups, 4-5 walleye set ups, and we often used as many as 8-10 tip-ups if we had extra kids.

I am going to contact Aaron and replace the 4 Fishing Freaks rods...these were sweet. I had the burnt cork on two of the rods...nice.

I am looking for advice on rods, reels, travel bag(I had a nice bag to haul a few rods etc. for little outtrips from the house) and tip-ups.

I did not have my Vex or Camera in the houseso I m still good to go there.

Any advice or good sales wodul be great.

Well, it's a good time of the year to be looking, a lot of stores have end of season sales starting now or soon. I bought an auger in March last year at Gander and they had some sweet deals on rod and reel combos. Maybe check Reeds and Thorne Bros too.

I would definitely give PerchJerker (Dave) a call, he's treated me right on everything I've bought from him.

gander usally has some nice combos, and alot of their ice stuff is on sale now. their guide/gander series ice rods are nice bought a few for my son and I, they handle well. Their gander series reels are something else tho. had three of them go bad within a year.

Since you live in Foley, I'd watch for sales on rod/reel combos at Scheels in St. Cloud. I like their Scheels Outfitter ice combos for the price.

And the scheels outfitter rods and reels have a great warantee too.

I wouls seriously check out the Jason Mitchell line up for rods and reels.

Jason's meat stick will cover a wide range of species without the need for a spring bobber as the tip is very fast and one can see the light biters and yet the rod has good backbone for fighting larger fish.

Jason's reels to me look like the Tica model and have a very nice drag and seems to be a solid reel for the money.

For the price and the absolute quality, I can't agree with dtro more. The Jason Mitchell rods are great on their own, but I have to admit I was a little skeptical of the reel when I first heard of the combo option.... Well let me say the drag works very well and has beaten all of my low expectations for it. I was wrong in my initial thoughts and am glad to admit it. What a great combo Jason Mitchell has offered all of us.
