Does anyone remeber there first time out Ice fishing? I talked with my brother for a while tonight and since he's 6 years older then me he remembers my first time out Ice fishing. After talking about it for a while I remember it a little as well. we used a spear house that my Dads neighbor put out and we had candles next to the holes to see the boobers.I remember because when we were walking back to shore I tripped my brother, he got a bloody nose and my Dad said to watch where I was walking. Funny thing is I was watching. grin I think he still wants to beat my butt for that one. I also remember we caught a bunch of 1 pound walleye, my Dad kept talking about how you don't need to be way out in deep water to catch them. Knowing what I know now, the lake was only about 10 ft deep so we where out deep. He was so excited about it and My brother and I were like,"Dad were bored". Can we go yet.

I somewhat remember my first time out ice fishing. Im guessing i was about four or five years old (almost 18 now). It was up on ML. My uncle had a perm out of a place that had really good tacos. His perm was a medium sized skid house that was painted a light blue if i remember right. There were bunks on one side and a single bed on the other. We only caught a few small fish, but by my smile in the picture is as big as if i caught a world record 'eye.

One funny part i do remember very well is that one of the nights i was out there was that i dropped my pillow in the hole while i was sleeping. The rattle reel went off, i have to this day never seen my uncle move so fast. To his supprise it was just a pillow in the hole and not an eye. I was pretty dissappointed too

Wish I could remember my first times fishing, but according to my dad as soon as I was out of diapers I was a regular. Heck I don't even remember my first time cleaning fish, just been doing it all since I could remember anything at all. The one thing I do remember is my older sisters getting paid by my dad for helping clean until I came along, but somehow I never saw a penny from him! Oh well I'm just starting to realize now how lucky I am for having a dad who got me into this crazy stuff and am so thankful for it.

I remember my first time out ice fishing. I was in boy scouts in New Ulm and we made a winter camping trip down to a lake on the Iowa border. It was about -20, but we still went out and tried. I dont know what we were doing, we didnt even have any bait but we had fun anyway. I didnt get a thing but I wanted to go again.

We moved to the metro area and we went out few times the first year here and each time we got skunked. I guess it was a determination thing, because the next year I went out and finally got some fish. The biggest thing that helped me out was getting a fish finder. My grandpa had a old humminbird that he gave me and my dad rigged it up so I could use it on the ice. Once I had that the fish were hurting. Got to thank dad for making that one work, it lasted me until I saved up enough money for a vexilar. I guess fishing really kept me out of trouble because I didnt have time or money to do anything else. grin

This is timely topic. My first time was 30 years ago when my buddy and I went to visit his uncle in Colorado who took us out to a small mountain lake one day. No shelter, no electronics, no power auger. We caught a couple of rainbows as I recall.

My buddy now lives in the Twin Cities and ice fishes regularly. I'm an open water guy now in Des Moines. Two weeks from now will be my 2nd time on the ice; we're renting a 4-holer on Mille Lacs. This time we'll have heat, flasher, underwater camera, GPS, and fishing gizmos galore. Should be a great weekend!

I'm not sure if I actually remember it or if I just heard my dad tell the story so much. I was about 3-4 (over 30 years ago now) and we were crappie fishing on Linwood. I would set the hook and run with the fish pole until the fish flopped out of the hole. Then I would yell "Dad, got another one". He would then come out of his cousin's shack, take the fish off and set me up again.

My first time ice-fishing was two winters ago, with a college friend. The funny thing about it was that my son came with me on that one. So him and I started at the same time!

That season was fun, but with borrowed gear. Last season i started buying- now I have everything i need and some! And i am dreaming about ice fishing at night, thinking about it while in class and at work, and waking up at ungodly hours just to get a little in regularily!

I still fish with that friend too. Thanks Jim!

In fact I hated Minnesota winters until i started ice fishing. I even moved to Hawaii for several years claiming i'd never spend another winter in the cold. Now i live in Ely and actually have found several reasons why I don't like summer as well as winter!

I must have been 5 or 6, family friend took my younger Bro and me to either Forest or Green lake, I remember it being quite cold, lots of cars and vans on the ice and smallish perch and crappies. My brother has maybe been out once or twice since then...... almost thirty years ago. he hates ice fishing. I lucked out. Had it not been for Mark taking us out, I would not have ice fished until I was about 10 years old.

This guy was great, he also took us to the croix for open water fishing (I lost one of his outfits to a white bass..... yanked it off the wall in Stillwater).

I remember my first time out, thank god I was with guys who do it all the time. I learned with a Vexilar and we were in portables with heaters. I am glad that I learned with all the right equipment because if I would have learned by sitting on a bucket out in the elements without a flasher unit I probably wouldn't be doing it right now.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
