'Boji Bonanza Bull Blues!

Over the weekend I was fortunate enough to be invited to fish with Perchpounder and Muc33 down on Okoboji for the 1st annual Get Together.

I've heard stories about the big Gills down there so I was excited to say the least.

Well to make a long story short, Chris and Chad, were able to do their magic and put us on some awesome fish!

Sat was a little slow but not bad at all, today however was lights out. I lost count how many 9+" fish we caught! Several that were 9.75" Just a blast!

I've never really done this type of sight fishing before and boy was it fun. Never know what you might see. I watched countless large Musky/Pike/Bass swim through my hole while enticing another Bull Gill. I was even able to take some nice videos of this happening. I'll try to get that uploaded here shortly.

It is quite obvious that these guys have it figured out. The long hours they put in patterning and locating these fish is apparent. I can't wait to try some of their tactics in other lakes.

Maybe you guys can chime in and explain how we were catching them.

Chris and Chad, thanks again for the great time, this won't be my last trip down there. wink

I'll rethink my plans next time I decide to "head North" and do a 180 instead. grin

Gotta love those Iowa gills. We caught our fish sight fishing horizontal jigs tipped with plastics (unless your DTRO and have to cheat by using Euros). We use the motto down here of small and slow and it seems to work most of the time. Today was probably the third best day i've had this year but we did pretty well. the weather pattern finally turned around and put the fish on bite giving us very little down time today once we got on top of them.

Here's a short video. I had a hard time holding the camera and setting the hook with my left hand. That's my story and I'm sticking to it smile

The red light is a reflection from the camera.

We were only in about 5-6' of water there but its not uncommon for us to sight fish standing outside in 10-12'. BTW the water was a little dirty due to all the fresh snow on top. The fishing is going to start changing soon the weeds we were fishing last weekend are all dead and im sure the ones that are still standing aren't going to last long.

Don't ask me to guide. All thanks and credit to Perchpounder, cool

We drilled a bunch of holes, then after a while he drilled more, walked over to my shack and simply said in a convincing voice, "you can do whatever you want, but if I were you, I'd move your house over to this hole here"

You don't have to tell me twice. smile

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
