Bass it's a percentage thing Left handed pitchers have a huge advantage over left handed hitters and vice versa for Right handers. In this particular case Cuddy a right handed batter was 7-12 against the left handed Danks and Kubel was 1-13 and is a poor hitter against left handers to begin with.

MnWild I doubt Gardy told Mauer to bunt I think he probably did that on is own after whiffing twice against Danks. I actually thought it was a good move he just missed it and if he gets it going toward 3rd base a little more he's on.

Oh well.... grin

I sill think it was the wrong move but like you said oh well.

Good thing that came out of this season is Mauer did win the batting title again and in 2 weeks I will be able to see and hold the silver bat he is awarded.

Wow a lot of venting going on. 1st of all congrats to the sox. The won the game and are going to the playoffs. Good luck to ya.

I cant believe the bashing going on with Cuddy vs Kubel. It was a no brainer. Cuddy should have started, now should he have pinch ran for him AFTER HIS HIT, (1 of 2 on the night). Yes I think he should have, however it was a good crash at the plate and AJ almost lost control. Blaming Gardy for putting in Cuddy instead of Kubel is a$$ nine. No issues at all with that move.

It came down to no hitting for the Twins, and a distinct home field advantage for Chicago. Every player had issues at the plate. Danks threw a heck of a game. Give credit where credit is due.

Finally I do have a question. Why does the stats of this game count against the season stats. Every team plays 162 and the stats are based upon 162 games, yet last night stats counted against the season. Thank goodness Mauer had a cushion in the batting race or those extra abats may have came into play, and possibly cost Mauer the batting title.

A great year TWINS and am looking forward to next year.

THANKS TWINS

G.C.

not for everyone

Correct Mauer and a few others are an exception to the rule in this case though it was plain as day!

Tough seeing them lose that way ... but it was worth watching just to see Cuddy take out Pierzinski!!!

Congrats to the TWINS once again on making it interesting despite playing teams like Chicago choked full of vets and 2x the payroll ($59 mill vs $120 mill). They gave us way more entertainment this season than any team in there situation had a right to.

After losing Johann, Tori and most of their fielding positions, I think many of us were thinking that we would be happy to be above .500, instead they almost pull off winning the division.

I can't wait for next season when all of their key players should be returning. Gardy is way over due to have everything come together at the right time to get us back a World Series Championship. My bet is on the Twinkies for 2009!!

For what its worth, heres my take. Cuddy over Kubel, gives a left handed option for a ph (didn't work). Loved the Lefty being used and used for more than the 1 batter. Cuddy/AJ play, had to be done.

Didnt like : not stealing, not many baserunners but it is AJ.

Not pinch hitting for Punto in the 8th. Could have left Harris to run and play ss and had Tolbert/Bucsher at 3rd. Reason? I thought we needed an extra base hit at that time. Probably would have went with Redmen.

The 6 pitch 7th with Mauer,Justin and Cuddy wasn't great either.

Oh well, I may have to like Punto a little better next year. Decent year but still a utility player.

I know, everyone has issues, but please SCORE A RUN!!! It is just tough to sit and watch when you don't even give yourself a chance to win.

Punto is a free agent, so we'll see! For some reason I can see the Twins letting him walk and plugging Tolbert into the "play anywhere" utility guy because we are cheap.

Unfortunately, after not running until 0-2 in the first inning and Casilla lining into a double play, I figured we were in for a long night.

Good season for the Twins.... I just wish the SOX weren't the ones in the playoffs!

"Why does the stats of this game count against the season stats?"

The game is considered an extension of the regular season and not a true playoff game. Regular season stats apply. Just the way it is and always has been.
