NAPAFISH
I doubt you could trade him and Mike Lamb and get Denny Hocking. Same lame type of player. Anyone who slides into first baseis an one-who-thinks-I-am-silly, not aggressive, making up for talent with something that makes people say boy he plays hard and yethe gets to base slower. I bet it [PoorWordUsage] Gardy off every time he does it. It would be nice if he could lay a bunt down oncein a while when we need him to. THe last time we went to the playoff's he really thought of the team, went out and married his girlfriend so she could fly for free with the players wifes. Thats giving it 110% for himself, really worried about the game and winning, showboating and all about himself. Hate watching guys like that, makes me sick. UdeLakeTom
As much as I dislike Livan, the young starters like him. To trade him at this time would upset the apple cart. The young guys most likely wouldn't care for it and might start a downward trend that the Twins cannot afford at this time. He may not be the ace, but the youngsters look up to him.So you trade Cuddy and Span pulls a Gomez and stinks the month of August, then what do you have?? Jarrod32
If you can get Beltre for Span even up, you do it in a heartbeat. I don't think the M's would ever go for that, though.
UdeLakeTom
But I like Cuddy.
soldoncass
Tolbert will have to work for his playing time as a utility man. Harris has done well at ss(lousy at 2b), although his range could be better. Buscher has done o.k. at 3b, although his range is small and reflexes are slow for the hot corner. I like his bat against RH pitchers, not LH(.118 BA). He could be platooned there, with Punto or Tolbert. Kubel is good against RH pitchers, but LH eat him for lunch(.157BA). A Monroe or ? platoon is much better there. Span has done well and earned a spot in the majors, but Cuddy still has an edge in right, on this club. tisosy11
The M's also have a stable of young outfielders. UNless they traded more than Adam Jones, but i am sure they have 2-3 more solid outfield prospects on the verge of breaking into the majors. It would take more than span...probably a young pitcher of some sort.If someone calls asking for Livan with a decent offer...I think the twins have to take them up on it. This year is not a World Series year. They are too young and their defense is not where it needs to be. If we can get someone in here that can help next year and beyond for Livan that would be huge! Jarrod32
From the Fanball site this morning:7/20 9:09 am: The Star Tribune indicates that a deal for Seattle slugger Adrian Beltre to join the Twins is not likely to happen. The Twins recently contacted the Mariners regarding Beltre, but the team reportedly felt the asking price was too high. The Mariners could be asking for one of the Twins' young starting pitchers, plus minor league prospects.
Dahitman44
Trade makes no sense.Beltre is not all that.
greebs
I would so love to see him in a twins uniform, but if it requires giving up a young starting picture, that's a tough sell and I don't think we want to do that. If Liriano can stay on track with a comeback, our pitching staff looks to be strong for a number of years and that is one area where you want to be strong. Now if only Boof were pitching like he was two years ago, we might be in a position to trade one of the young arms.
mrklean
Getting him would be like bring Brett Boone back remember when we had him for like 15 games a few years ago. Beltre had one huge year got paid crazy for it and hasnt lived up to it at all, he is an average player at best.
greebs
I think we are talking about a much better player than brett boone. I'd say beltre is more or less a cuddyer but with real power and I would sure like to see the extra home run threat in the lineup but I agree that he's not worth giving up one of our young starters. Jarrod32
Some other 3B that may be available come the trade deadline...the Indians are reportedly considering trade offers for Casey Blake...not sure they would trade him within the division, or that the Twins would want to give a division rival any prospects...but Blake was originally with the Twins organization, if I remember right...Also rumors that the Orioles may have Huff available...that may hold some possibilities... tisosy11
Beltre = too expensive and not something twins usually do.They seem to like their mix of players at third.Mike Lamb must be getting board on the bench!
KMR85
did you mean to spell board that way? as sort of a joke perhaps?
Dahitman44
Blake? That would be kinda funny. The Twins give up on him then trade for him.Huff and Puff? He has been a no-show for like three seasons. I don't trust him and I don;t think we want him.
SledNeck
Was reading in a magazine today that the ideal Twins trade would be for Garrett Atkins. But we'd have to give up a starter and a top prospect.
greebs
Atkins would be a player where that kind of trade might be worth it. That would be like sticking another Morneau in the lineup. Provided the young starter wouldn't have to be Baker or Liriano, this would definitely be something to seriously consider. I doubt the rockies would take either Slowey or Blackburn along with Buscher for Atkins but if they would I think we'd be getting a steal.
HossFisher
Casey Blake and Hank Blalock are some other names that are now starting to be thrown around in deals with the Twins. Sportsline said the Twins are likely to try to package Cuddyer and Livan in a deal somewhere but i cant imagine that those two would be enough to acquire a player like blake or blalock.
Jarrod32
I think the Huff possibility is a good one...he would come cheaper than any of the other names that have been mentioned.Huff this year is at .289 with 19 homers and 61 RBI.I don't see doing Cuddyer for Blake...that is about a wash.Even Blackburn or Perkins is a steep price, even for Atkins. But I could see that.Given what the current starting rotation is doing, maybe see how much you can get in trade for Liriano...?...
UdeLakeTom
According to the Fan tonite, all the teams are asking for too much, one of the young pitchers (Blackburn, Baker, etc, and a prospect like Rivera or Tobert.

blue_healer_guy
If we would aquire Blake, that would be about 3-4 less wins for Cleveland against us. He kills us.
