Ray Esboldt
I don't ever remember my first trip of the year to open water being a bass trip, but being that open water panfish options are fairly limited, Pool 2 on the river it was. The fishing was poor, one 2 pounder for me and 2.5 for my partner. And, we both missed a couple, but I can't remember being happier to be on the water. The water temperature never made it to 50 degrees in the backwaters we fished. So, no doubt it was going to be a little slow. But, I saw a turkey fly across a backwater, a couple deer, a muskrat, 100's of pelicans, 1000's of commies, and many ducks and geese. Man, it was nice to be out.Best part of the day, my buddy brought me a couple Lucky Craft Pointer minnows. Price, $5 a piece. Now that is priceless. fishcast
"Finally" I know the feelin' Not to steal the post but I caught my first (and only) bass of the year today and it had some pretty looking markings on it too. On the WI River its open year round here (water surface temps were in up to 60 in some spots where I was at). Today was a mulispecies day for me (caught a real nice walldogger on the same rig) and I caught it on a 5" gulp leech on a kind of a split shot rig, with a 1/16oz bullet sinker in front of a carolina keeper. Heres a pic to get the MN lake folks excited for May 24!
Ray Esboldt
Deitz, You know me better than that. Have I ever posted a picture? Actually, I did have a camera with. Just too lazy to get it out. And, yes. There were a fair number of boats on the river. The current is moderately strong, but the water seems about normal level.
