Jared Allen?

ANYFISH

Price tag too high

My instincts were apparently right.

I'm hearing that the Scout.com report is wrong. The Vikings have not offered the Kansas City Chiefs a one (17th overall), a three and a second in 2009. If that were the case, Chiefs president Carl Peterson would have personally flown Jared Allen to the Twin Cities.

I suspect the Chiefs are standing firm by their pursuit of a first and second this year, while the Vikings may be sticking to the first and third this year or conceding with a first this year and a second in 2009.

I've also learned something else: The Vikings have two excellent in-house resources to get a proper read on Allen. Before joining the Vikings in 2005, Les Pico served as the Chiefs' player development coordinator/ legal for four seasons, and he knew Allen quite well. In addition, Vikings vice president Kevin Warren is very close to former Chiefs head coach Dick Vermeil, who coached Allen in 2004 and 2005.

Now the Vikings executive director of player development/ legal, Pico quietly works with Warren to proactively help the players with a variety of issues, legal and otherwise.

At this point, all indications are that Vikings owner Zygi Wilf has signed off on the pursuit of Allen, who has twice been arrested for DUIs. Mindful of his culture of accountability, Wilf and his staff are apparently confident that Allen truly has turned his life around, and I'm sure input from Pico and Warren helped them reach that conclusion.

All we need is a thread about that now. Vikes are not moving, plain and simple.

Eagles in the mix?

April 22nd, 2008 – 7:09 PM by Judd Zulgad

The report from the Delco (Pa.) Times that the Eagles have inquired about Jared Allen has been out there all day and we’ve confirmed that Philadelphia is trying to get involved. The question now becomes this: Are the Eagles serious players in the bidding for the Pro Bowl defensive end or is Chiefs President Carl Peterson simply trying to use them to gain additional leverage in talks with the Vikings?

It’s probably the latter. The report said the Eagles proposed sending cornerback Lito Sheppard — who is almost certainly going to be moved before next season — and draft picks to the Chiefs. The Eagles, however, did not offer up their first-round pick. (Allen isn’t even scheduled to make a trip to talk to the Eagles, something that likely would need to happen if they were big-time players in this.)

If the rebuilding Chiefs are indeed asking the Vikings for first- and second-round selections — the Vikings are offering their first- and one of their two third-round picks — there is no way Kansas City is going to take a package that doesn’t include the Eagles’ top choice. Philadelphia, by the way, will pick 19th in the opening round. That is two picks after the Vikings and one ahead of Tampa Bay, which also has interest in Allen.

As for this tentative visit Allen is supposed to take to visit the Bucs, as far as we know it still has not happened. Time is running out on the Bucs and honestly it remains difficult to believe Tampa is in a position to give up draft picks when it only has five in this weekend’s annual selection process. (Fran Foley’s description of the draft.)

The Vikings appear to be in good shape in the Allen sweepstakes but obviously patience is going to be a key as this process continues to play out.

i am sorry if i am repeating anyone's opinions, but here is my 2 cents worth.

Allen is a proven pass-rusher with a non-stop motor and is only 26 years old and is in the peak of his career. Yeah, givin up a 1st rounder and a few more picks would sting a little bit. But look at it this way, I am almost certain that the Vikes are lookin towards a DE 1st round who wouldn't be proven in the NFL (anyone remember that Underwood character a few years back?, I know, different situation but still...) So, why not pull the trigger on a proven guy? Plus, just think of having the Williams Wall take up 3 guys and Allen around the edge making OTs look silly. It only makes one of the NFL's best front 4 THE best. Plus Robison & Co. will have a great chance of running wild on the other side.

Can you imagine what pretty boy Aaron Rodgers will be thinking when he sees that front 4 on the Monday night opener?? Welcome to the NFC North buddy...

oh it's gonna get done...allen wants to be a viking and thats whats gonna happen. we are just waiting patiently for the chiefs to bite so we don't over spend...we could get the deal done right now by just biting and giving them what they want...if the vikes were getting nervous we'd just get it done.

here we go jared here we go!!!

purple people eaters!! wooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Dwayne Clemons, Derrick Alexander, Demitrious Underwood, Keniche Udeze. To state the obvious, the draft is not an assured thing; especially the Vikings and 1st rd. defensive ends. The KC Chiefs and Vikes right now are in a staring contest; if the Vikes have to blink 1st so be it. Learning from history it would seem giving up our top 2 picks wouldnt be such a bad thing for the leagues sack leader from last season(14 games played). The fact that Allen's in his prime years is great considering the age of our D tackles. Take a D end in this years 1st rd and he MIGHT be good, in a couple years. Julius Peppers/Jevon Kerse ect. and like players at DE that take the league by storm their rookie season are rare indeed.

i'm with ya man...the vikes aren't very good at picking DE's...we always take the guy that "should of" went sooner but injuries let them slip to us...just like what we are looking at this yr with merling if we don't get allen.

nothing is to spendy to me for allen...if it takes a 1st and 2nd so be it...i wouldn't even be mad if it was two 1sts...your talking about a top 3 DE in the NFL...#1 last season and he missed 2 games.

it's like trading merling and a 2nd or a 3rd for an elite player...no brainer.

i just want the deal to get done so i can go buy my jersey!!

here we go allen here we go!!

YEAH BUDDY!!! Just read it on the Star Tribune online, and it is believed that they sent the 1st rounder (17) and the 3rd rounder (72) and could send another pick. We also signed him to a multi-year deal! Look out NFC North, the Purple People Eaters are back!!

Just read about on fox, they say we will give the chiefs our 1st and both of our 3rd rounders and swap 6th round picks. 6 year 74 million with 31 million guaranteed. Big price tag but a great talent and should be our final piece to our defensive puzzle. I've always hated when teams try to buy championships, but I am excited that one of our teams is spending to get better, minnesota sure isn't known for that.

This was great news to see this am! I dont like that we gave them 3 picks, but we got it done, we still have our #2 pick too.

Now we can pick OT, TE to improve our offense.

Skol Vikings!

Oh YA it is $31,000,069 ! grin.gif

Look guys I'm a Browns fan and you have to give to get, although it may seem like alot of picks to give for Allen, he's a monster.

Look we gave up a first for Brady Quinn, A 2nd for Corey Williams and a 3rd for Shaun Rogers and I'm extremely happy and I think you guys will be too, at least you have a 2nd round pick.

we still have 6 picks guys...remember how much our draft picks contributed last year?? a team isnt built in the first rounds, it's the later rounds when you get some solid picks. just look at allen, he was a 4th rounder. i am ready for the monday night opener!

SKOL VIKINGS!!!!

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
