ANYFISH
Fox is reporting that Jared Allen will be in talks with the Vikings this weekend. Allen is KC's franchise player, so we will have to give up our 1st and 2nd round draft picks or 1st and 3rd with compinsation. How do you all feel about this possible trade? My feelings are this may be good, we would be getting a proven and very talented DE that is just entering his prime and could lock him up for years to come. More of a sure thing that drafting a DE IMO. Although I'd hate to lose our two highest draft picks.
Scott K
I think it is spendy! But I would be willing to give next years 1st, and this years 3rd. I would be happy with that!
BRULEDRIFTER
I'd be more willing to give up this years first round pick, IMO!I would look at it like he was our 1st round pick this year. That way if he is a bust, we can still have a #1 pick next year.I say go for it! He's got just as good, if not a better chance of being a great player as anyone we could get in the middle of the 1st round!
Scott K
He would be a great pick up to our defense. He is worth 1 1st, and a 2nd. But I was hoping to keep this years 1st rd pick and fill another hole in our team. TE, someone to fill in for Mccinney, ect... But if we had to give up this years, I would in a heart beat! xedge2002
i bet we wont have to give up a franchise tag draft picks. From how I read it he wants out of KC and and the Chiefs are accepting offers for him. Maybe trade a 2nd and 3rd or 4th?? Or maybe be able to just throw a 1st at them and they would run with that saving our later round picks. Either way if we get him it will be a HUGE upgrade for the DE position for us. Just think the Williams boys in the middle and Allen on the end, it'll be pretty tough for teams to double team 3 players!! Should see some good QB pressure next year if we get him! Scott K
The only problem, we dont want him to go to Tampa, we want him to come here and stay here, we have to give a better deal then anyone else, or they will trade him to the other teams. Scott K
Report: Vikings in trade talks for Chiefs DE AllenFOXSports.com is reporting that Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Jared Allen will visit the Vikings this weekend and expects to be traded before the April 26-27 NFL draft.Allen, the Chiefs' franchise player said that the Vikings and Tampa Bay Buccaneers have held trade talks with the Chiefs."It's a situation that works out best for both sides," he told FOXSports.com. "I can go to a team that is competing for a championship right now. The Chiefs can get valuable draft picks to rebuild with."Allen said the two sticking points are working out terms of a deal with a new team and the Chiefs agreeing to compensation for a trade. A package of first- and second-round picks or one of first- and third-round picks in the upcoming draft have been discussed as possible terms.ESPN reported that the Vikings are considering offering their first-round pick and a second-round pick in 2009, while the Chiefs would prefer to deal for picks in this year's draft. The Vikings had no comment on today's reports, but the Chiefs confirmed that they have been in conversations with other teams about Allen."Jared is not an exclusive franchise player," team president Carl Peterson said in a statement. "Therefore, based on the terms of the collective-bargaining agreement, he has the right to visit and negotiate with other teams. However, for any trade to be completed, the Chiefs would need to reach an agreement on compensation. At this point, all of these discussions are preliminary." Badger
Good one Walleyes12 LOL! We could go on & on about the DUI's arrests etc. in the NFL. Just as long as the boys win championships right? All is forgiven when these guys produce for your team...look at the Cowboys trying to get Pacman Jones!
Scott M
Yeah, I heard about it on the radio. Character flags. The guy is unhappy rebuilding in KC. What happens if the Vikings have to rebuild as their defense slows or they have a bad year, or a new coaching change...a lot of what-ifs, but in this age of parody and big changes in year to year team performance, do you want a guy that wants to quit like that?Seeing that the Vikings have the 17th pick, I could get by with trading #17 and a 3rd rounder. They need to address the O-line though, it's supposed to be a deep tackle draft. We'll see how things go.
FISHINGURU
lol anyone remember me talking about trading for allen? i been down to trade for allen...i'd give up our 1st and a 2nd in a heartbeat....i hear he is coming to town this weekend...lets get this done.he's not a quitter...he just said if the chiefs don't sign him and slap him with the franchise tag he wants out...just like what every guy that gets the tag says.allen is a top flight DE....get a guy like him and we can start talking about making a serious superbowl run...not just the fake superbowl runs us fans talk about every year lol
Scott M
You can't lead the league in sacks in 14 games and not have talent. He's already got the franchise tag, but the Chiefs know they have to get rid of him to get draft picks.Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have him, and I'd trade the first and third rounders, with some lingering hesitation I suppose. But there are some issues...the off-field stuff...I dunno, I just worry when a guy publicly complains and wants out. Quitter is probably too strong of a word. Pro athletes make that much money, just play hard and do your job. Sometimes you have to rebuild...let the front office deal with it, not the players. zepman
Allen is a very high risk/high reward type of player. One more off-field incident and he's gone for a while. Pair him next to the Williams boys and he becomes pretty much unstoppable. Definately worth a 1st and a 3rd---ideally one in '08 and the other in '09 but I doubt the Chiefs are going to go for that. They will want our 1st and 2nd in this years draft. However this breaks down, I kind of feel like the Vikes are going to get this done.
Scott K
I say get it done! 1st and 2nd this year if we have to, but hopefully they will let one go until next year. If they do this, I doubt there will be any talk of blackouts this year!
Sandmannd
They still need an offense with receivers to get rid of blackouts IMO anyway.

Al.Wichman
I live in WI and had season tix untill two years ago. With Allen and what they did in free agencey I would get season tix again. The secondary would benefit the most from this deal, they would finally have a legitament sack threat on the outside which would help the corners. Also with Berrian AP would hopefully see more seven man fronts
Scott K
Allen in town todayApril 18th, 2008 – 10:23 AM by Judd Zulgad Pro Bowl defensive end Jared Allen is in the Twin Cities today meeting with Vikings officials and it sounds as if the team will try to keep him here until an agreement is reached both with Allen on a contract and with the Chiefs on compensation. That doesn’t mean it’s a slam dunk Allen ends up in Purple but it seems as if the folks at Winter Park certainly have their hopes up. (It’s a safe bet the people across the street who are in charge of marketing the Vikings also have high hopes.)Allen has been given the franchise tag by the Chiefs but clearly wants out of Kansas City. While the Vikings would acquire Allen in a trade, they are allowed to talk to him about a contract because he’s not an “exclusive franchise player.” The Vikings are hoping that by getting to Allen first they can convince him that Minnesota is the best place for him. It’s no different than what happened with free-agent defensive end Justin Smith in San Francisco. Smith was set to visit the Vikings after meeting with the 49ers, but the Niners were able to keep him in town and Smith never set foot in Minnesota. The difference in this case is Allen is going to cost big money and the Chiefs also are going to get something in return. Ideally, the Vikings probably would like to send Kansas City their first (17th overall) pick and one of their two third-round selections. The Chiefs, though, could very well try to get a first- and second-round pick.

Scott K
The latest on Jared AllenApril 18th, 2008 – 12:55 PM by Judd Zulgad Defensive end Jared Allen is at Winter Park right now talking to Vikings officials. It’s also believed his agent, Ken Harris, is in the building. That means only one thing: they are talking contract. The latest we’re hearing is that an agreement with the Chiefs is close to being in place and this thing could get done quick. We emphasize the word could, so don’t get too excited yet.Allen is going to want a lot of Zygi Wilf’s money. Safe to say, the NFL’s sack leader from 2007 is going to want more than the Colts gave end Dwight Freeney last July. Freeney’s six-year contract – $72 million over six years with a $30 million signing bonus — made him the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history.Considering the fact a player with Allen’s ability could make this one of the top defenses in the NFL, the guess is that Wilf and Co. will pay the price.
