TurnUpTheFishing
What are they?
delmuts
bass; i've wondered about these too! looks like a great set up if one fishes shallows alot. they are a elect. unit that lowers a rod into the water to act as an anchor, instead of tossing out an anchor or trying to hold on the spot with a trolling motor. has a remote control. Deitz Dittrich
I too have looked at these quite a bit Bassn.. However, for the price of them.. not for me! I can use an anchor.
RK
Hiya - I've been kind of curious about them for a while but I'd never seen one in action until last week. The guide I fished with in Florida had one, and used it a lot. After seeing what those things can do, I think I may have to have one here before long. Wow are they ever neat. When you drop the thing down, if your tail is to the wind, you do not move. At all... Very simple to operate, apparently not too hard to install (it bolts to the transom and runs on a power trim hydraulic pump). They go from stowed to deployed in about 4 seconds. The standard model can anchor you in up to 6' of water, and the XL in 8 feet. If you ever break or chew up the spike, they send you a replacement free. I would love to have one of these when fishing in rushes, for example, or fishing docks. Once the thing is down, it's like you're fishing off a dock - you don't have to worry about boat control, and you don't move at all. I came away from a day using one very, very impressed. Now I just have to get buying one past the Accounting Department Fortunately, she was in the boat too and was about as impressed with it as I was. Cheers, Rob Kimm

Deitz Dittrich
From looking at them online, the 6' ones run $1300, and thats if you install it yourself... and the XL8' version are closer to $1500.as said, I think they would be nice to have, but wowsers, I can buy a lot of anchors for that price...heck, my first boat didn't cost that much.. LMAO
Ray Esboldt
That's too much for me as well. Great idea though.
polarsusd81
I might put one on my Lund. Cost more than the boat, motor, and trailer. I could probably lift the boat out of the water with one, that would be kinda fun. The boat elevator. Sight fishin, here I come.
bassNspear
i would love to have one, but like you said, they are alot of money. I think there going to come down a bit in price as soon as they are on the market longer, at least i hope so.
Central Bassman
I didn't know they were that much.
frogtosser
they do look like a good tool, I was wondering what the white poles were on the back of the bass boats on the Florida tournys until they talked about them. I bought too much stuff already this year according to the D A.
grab the net
If buying a new boat, I think I would throw one on, what's another $1500 on a 50K rig.
Central Bassman
I would like to see how one works on the water before i put one on.
bassNspear
i have one that we have in our shop right now. Its a awesome unit to have. I have never used it on the water, but just seeing how it works with the boat on the trailer, and watching it on the Elite Series, and in the shop, i would want one forsure. Looks awesome and would help out alot.
FishGUY
If you go to their HSOforum you can see them in action. It would only be worth it if you fished anchored alot in shallow water. Other wise it would be in the way and they are expensive. All the bass pros with them on their boats, would they be there if they had to pay for them? Probable not. Fluker
The value of this would greatly vary on how and where you fish I believe. If you're a shallow water fisherman, then of course it could be of benefit. But seems it would only be needed if it was windy, there was current, or you needed to stay put with out moving your TM (bed fishing). Personally I think that some fishign MN waters could use it, but it won't be a major item like other places.I think some Pro's, and really any angler would pay for these is the scnerio was right. Florida lakes seem to be a perfect example. Shallow flats and usually a lot of wind.
bassNspear
flucker, i think you hit it right on the head, it would be something that have if you are a god shallow fisherman, but not for deep water. I think its something that can help anyone, if you are in the right situations.
Superduty
Looks like they would get in the way for your partner in the back of the boat. I know I don't like it when the stern navigation light pole is in the way. Granted, I fish from the bow 90% of the time. In a team tourney or even fun fishing, the guy/gal in the back would have to watch rod angles when casting. Especially if skipping docks.
bassNspear
just make sure that you put it on the right side of the boat, but i can see what your saying how it might get in the way
Superduty
The right side of the boat would depend on the wind direction on any given day. I think most of us fish into the wind whenever possible. Looks great for bed fishing. Hard to justify the expense and the cumbersome look IMO. Would it fit in the garage? Heck I have to trim down the 225 and remove my butt seat so they don't hit the top of the garage door opening. My driveway has a pretty good slope. It would be easier on a flat driveway. bassNspear
i dont think its going to make or break to get it in your garage, unless you have a low garage. You have to see it work inperson, and you would understand it more. I didnt know alot about them, till i was playin with the one in the shop. I would love to have one on the back of the boat. Still think its to high
delmuts
if interested! there is a article on power poles in the new " Bass Mast" mag. del
Superduty
The article is a good read. It points out more applications for power poles than I would have thought. Can't justify the $1400 though.
