What's the latest with the 2 rods for summer fishing scuttlebutt? Can anyone update me on this?

There is a thread going on this down in the outdoor discussion forum. I thought I heard something about an extra $5 for your license if you choose to have two rods, but I don't know if that is what they are trying to push through or not.

What does this mean? This is also on the Omnibus bill that will be up for vote. "changing “one-over” walleye and northern pike limits from daily taking limits to possession limits".

If passed, it means that you have an opportunity to fish with an extra line for a $5 fee on top of your fishing license cost. Ice fishing remains as it currently is...two lines for no extra fee.

The daily/possession limit is so that someone doesn't go out and put six 20"+ walleyes in their freezer. Right now you could do that but it'd take six days since you can only keep one walleye over 20" per day under the current regulations. This is the reason behind changing the regulation from "daily" to "possession".

This may be a stupid question but how do you enforce something like that once the fish are filleted?

Should be within the next month I'd guess. When does the legislature typically adjourn? I don't recall, but it's coming up shortly.

So basically those of us with lifetime licenses would have to start paying $5 per year to fish a second line? Or would we be gradfathered around that fee?

Those will be the detail they will work out in the special session, that will take 1 month

I was watching the house session last night and it's absurd how they function, or misfuction. I've never seen such a bunch of bleepity-bleep with their politics. I wish more people would watch the coverage, especially what I witnessed last night, and remember it when they go to the polls this fall. It's embarrassing to see those people "representing" us, and I use the word "representing" lightly because they aren't.

I too am a lifetime license holder. I thought the purpose of the license was to get the money up front and holders would be insulated from future increases.

I was very impressed with last year's DNR bill because it cleared up a lot of ambiguities in the basic fishing rules. The best one was taking the license off of portable fish houses. I will be seeing a couple my legislators in about a week and I will be letting them know how I feel about these fees.

Well we are the land of 10,000 fees and even more taxes.

They may get it right yet. We will have to wait and see and everyone should call thier reps and let them know what they believe. This is the only way they will know what the sportmsan and women want. We need to talk with our reps.

In some respects that wouldn't be a lot different than having to buy a shelter license or spearing license. Do lifetimers have to buy those?

I have a question.

I don't have to buy a license for another year and if this gets passed would I be able to use two rods or just the one for this year

Probably wouldn't go into effect until 2009.
