Carp spots

Recommended Posts

I know most of us like to keep specifics to ourselves about good spots, but wondering if anybody knows decent spots in the Cities for sight fishing carp. I know I can go out to the Miss R. and catch a boatload, but I enjoy sight fishing a lot more

Good luck getting anyone in the metro to cough up their honey holes. nice try anyway it was worth a shot ;\)

I'd suggest the community spots that everyone knows about like the ford dam, minnehaha, backwaters around pike island, black dog, etc. Otherwise do a search in the pool 2 and shore fishing forums and you'll probably find a few nuggets of truth worth trying. Don't be discouraged.

Half of the fun of carp hunting is finding that secret spot on your own.

Good luck!

i used to live in wayzata as a kid and fell in love with carp off the depot docks in wayzata bay on lake minnetonka, started sight fishing them with hunks of hot dog buns and when i would see a few swimming towards the top i would lob it at them and 9 times out of ten they would gobble it up before the hook fell out, i then started fishing doughballs and found my success to be much better. lots and huge fish off the wayzata depot docks all year and the lagoons early season, the lagons are pretty tough to sight fish them in though

it was a while ago, i moved there in 6th grade and moved away in 10th grade and i graduated in 2005 so i guess that would mean i was there from about 1999 - 2003 my dad still lives in wayzata though and even after i moved away i would still go down on the weekends and fish the depot docks, lots of good memories down there.

Ahhh I predate you there by quite a bit... I graduated from Wayzata in 1993, moved out of town shortly thereafter.

can be quite a bit of fun down there as I recall....

Look for the first open shallow bays in lakes this time of year. The big carp congregate in these warmer areas but only for a short time after ice out. Don't know of any spots like this around the cities, but there are many around St. Cloud

here is an aireal view of the depot docks and the lagoons in wayzata, two of my favorite fishin holes as a kid, they are very well known so i don't see any problem in posting a map, the spots highlighted in red are good spots to fish, i love using my doughball recipe listed in this forum under How many of you make your own bait? also just regular old corn works great. the lagoons are amazing after ice out. carp by the hundreds in there, my two biggest from there also, a 20lber and a 17lber. might have to venture down there this year, all this talk has got me excited \:Dgrin.gif

Staring Lake, Lake Riley, and Lake Susan all have plenty of carp for sight fishing. Probably the best all around though for sight fishing would be Lake Minnetonka. A couple of buddies told me last week that carp are stacked up in many of the shallow bays all over 'Tonka. I've personally had great early season action on Harrison Bay from the the shore.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
