Sherpa
I tried fishing Yellow for the first time today. I got a couple Eyes in the morning hours and a couple more at sundown. I missed a few as well. They were all pretty small but I did see a guy pull in a 19"+ walleye on a tip-up. I had tons of fish checking out my bait but not biting at different times during the day. Hopefully I get a chance to fish this lake again this winter. Will definitely have to come back with the boat too.
lance95
Good to hear that you caught fish. We where out a little this weekend and didn't get much. We where fishing of of jeffreys landing on the east side and was mainly going for perch but no luck.
Jarrid Houston
Plan on doing 4th of July Weekend on Yellow. Any good resorts we should stay at? Mid summer fishing tips. Like them Walleyes, and don't plan on keeping anything...
DonBo
There's really only two lodges on Yellow. Yellow Lake Lodge has motel like "condos" they call them, and Ike Waltons has a motel and rents cabins. This would be my choice, especilly if you have kids. There's an indoor pool and large game room to keep them occupied if the weather is less than perfect. Don't plan on swimming beaches. The water is green and weedy and there is always the threat of chiggers. Great fishing, but not a great lake for skiing or swimming, or jet skies. 4th of July can get pretty busy there, so I'd call around pretty soon. If you have a camper or RV, let me know as the options will change.July is prime time for walleye on this lake, just look through this thread and you'll see what's working then. We also keep the reports pretty up to date during the summer, so follow along.
Jarrid Houston
Thanks for the insight Donbo...Family vacation, but all the kids are older. No RV or camper, so we will look into the cabins. Basically coming to fish!!! I look forward to reports up and coming...
DonBo
First of time on Yellow Lake ice this year. Nice day. We had a bunch of tip-ups out with only a couple decent pike to show for it. The panfish were slow but steady. Fished one of the deeper holes on the lake.
DonBo
Last time up, a guy fishing near me caught a few cisco/whitefish/tulibee. NEVER seen them in this lake before. Anyone else ever see them here? You just never know what this lake is going to produce.

Hd Wtr Hillbilly
Anybody been up there this week to check the access by the Lodge. I am heading up Saturday and wanted to make sure this warm weather hasn't hurt anything. Any report would be appreciated.
DonBo
I'm not sure, but I would think that access may be too close to the open water from the channel. I would try either Jeffries or the other one by Ike Waltons and I'm sure you won't have any problems.Good luck, let us know how you do.
Hd Wtr Hillbilly
Thanks DonBoI have been using the lodge for the last few weeks with no problem just wasn't sure with this warm weather and the channel. Ike Waltons was my 2nd choice.
AWH
Last time up, a guy fishing near me caught a few cisco/whitefish/tulibee. NEVER seen them in this lake before. Anyone else ever see them here? You just never know what this lake is going to produce. I've been fishing Yellow since 1988 and I've caught or seen a couple. All under 10". Very low numbers from everything I've heard. Aaron

CrappieKilla
I caught a ton of crappies including one 13 and a half incher. Didn't even fish for walleyes.
DonBo
We did pretty good without hitting it too hard. Caught a 25 incher Saturday afternoon. (CPR'd, I'll get photos up later) That's the biggest walleye I've caught on Yellow for years. Heard the crappies were biting in deeper water, is that where you were catching them CrappieKilla?A buddy slammed the nortons Saturday, like 15 or 16 I think he said they caught, then topped off the day with a 51 1/2" musky!Agreed, the best opener in years, certainly the nicest weather in recent memory. LoonASea
Yea the pike were biting much better then the eyes,,,the 5 of us got 12 eyes and probably close to 30-40 pike but a lot of the pike were cookie cutter fish,, all the same size but the fight was fun ,,our biggest eye was 22 inches and all males We didnt fish for crappies that much ,,just a breif time friday afternoon LAS
CrappieKilla
Yep in 19 FOW and only caught 5 in the south channel.
DonBo
Yep in 19 FOW and only caught 5 in the south channel. I'm assuming they still had spawn in them and have not yet moved shallow? Glad you got into them, when the crappies are biting, there's not much else I'd rather do.
CrappieKilla
Caught the 13 incher in the channel and that one was full of spawn. The others that we kept didn't have any so I think most were males. I know some were males for sure cause you can shoot them like a squirt gun when you squeeze them.
