Jim Hudson
Just wanted to see if anyone had any feedback on these rods... Been using them much? And how do you like them for the species you have been pursuing?
harvey lee
Here we go Jim. I have used my Mitchell Perch rod for both perch and eyes and have been very happy with the action of the rod. The tip is sensitive and I can feel the bumps well from both the perch and eyes.I will be trying out a few of the others soon and will report back on the findings but to date, very happy. Surface Tension
Jim, I built all my Lake Trout rods because I'm very picky when it comes jigging swimming lures. I want no mush on the lift, needs sensitivity, has to feel comfortable palming and with a butt that'll lay nice along my forearm but not too long that its in the way. All that and it has to load up nice with a Naked, Drag Rippin Laker. I picked up the Jason Mitchell 36" Makinaw MH baitcaster in spiral wrap, it feels perfect. Its ready to rock and roll for Inland Laker Opener.
lunker651
I have the meat stick and it's been great. Very flexible tip but the back bone is strong and the hook set is great. The dead stick has been very productive this year and I'm pretty happy with it. The only thing I don't really like is thier warranty. I know it's a limited lifetime warranty but they also want you to send in $20.00 for shipping and my rod only cost $21.99 so I kind of think that is bogus. Haven't need it yet but I know if my rod breaks or somehting, I'll just buy a new one instead of using the warranty.
slipperybob
I've picked up a meatstick. Plan on using that one for finesse jigging light weight stuff like 1/64 oz and lighter or for dead sticking one bb shot and plain hook.
CALVINIST
I bought four rods, the 28" walleye, the sight fishing, the meat stick, and the spring bobber rods. Still haven't fished with 'em much, but so far I have nothing to complain about; they are great sticks.
DTro
I am really liking the Perch rod. Versatile enough for panfish, yet it will handle a larger fish such as a walleye or catfish. However, the 28" Walleye has been my go to rod so far this year. It just feels right to me. I haven't tried the spring bobber yet, but plan to in the next couple weeks. So far so good, I'd recommend them to anyone.
Eric Wettschreck
I have 2 of the 28" Walleye rods and I'm lovin them. They seem to have a real nice backbone yet sensative enough tip for me to feel the lightest bumps. I've caught eyes, perch, crappie, and 2 nice pike on these rods so far this winter.Would I recommend them?? Darn straight. I really like them and the price is tough to beat. blueroof
I had a meatstick break on hookset this past week. I called the contact number on the HSOforum, was a bit surprised to find myself speaking directly to a very nice man named Jason Mitchell. He went above and beyond to help me out. I used a panfish to land a couple smalleye and sauger on LOW using a small jigging spoon. Hooked into a 5+lb burbot, the panfish rod handled it very well. Nice action, after the great customer service, I will try to use other Jason Mitchell rods more. LB
markkstanley
Been using the spring bobber and the meatstick for crappies . Great rods. I really recommend the meat stick for all around panfishing. The tip is as sensitive as a spring bobber yet it has plenty of backbone. Those big crappies and gills are a blast on the meatstick. Great as a deadstick too. The smallest crappie minnow will have the tip moving so you don't need to wonder if your bait is lively.
Powerstroke
I've got the meatstick and the springbobber rod. I haven't used the SB one but I will this weekend. My meatstick was fantastic. I also had a problem with the tip and spoke to Jason about it. I've got a new rod on the way and I couldn't be happier. Fantastic customer service and quality. Bullwinkled
CPR'd a 37 inch 14 pound Northern on the Walleye rod yesterday on Mille Lacs. Fun to play, very thankful I run 6lb test fireline.

slipperybob
So finally had a fish on the meatstick. The backbone on it is incredible...nothing like my noodle cajun. I did have a little trouble with the bobber stop trying to pass through the tip guide. Wish they make big line guides for prevent ice up. If an outside meatsick is made, I'll get one. PerchJerker
I've been using the 24" Panfish and 24" Spring Bobber rods on Winnie for perch the last couple of days. Prior to that I had done a little crappie fishing with them around home. So far I've been very happy with the rods, especially the sensitivity and the backbone. I also have a 26 Perch rod, haven't used it much but am going to LOTW for a couple days and I think I'll use it quite a bit there for those eater-size walleyes and saugers
FishGUY
I had an issue with one of my rods, called Jason and he made it right no questions asked. Great customer service and nice rods. Will buy more in the future.Kevin
ChuckN
I purchased a 30" Walleye and a 28" Walleye rods, and I am very pleased with the performance. My first thought of the 30" is that it was too beefy to be sensitive for smaller fish, and I found the opposite. It's probably my favorite rod for thumping jigging spoons and targeting aggressive fish, and so far it's done a great job at helping me hook some nice fish. I use the 28" as another jigging rod and very pleased with that one also. Lots of backbone and a much more sensitive tip for light biters. The price for these rods is very reasonable for the quality, I am very pleased.
Kodiak
i have caught about 20 crappies with my 26" perch 4lb vanish flouro, with demon jigging spoon.NICE RODS!
slipperybob
Okay the tip on my meatstik just snapped on me... I guess it's not as durable as I thought it ought to be and with a the precations I've taken....only used once and caught only one fish. Now taken it out, set it down along side of other rods. Went to pick it up and unhooked lure and snapped. Questions now is...replace it or go with something else.
harvey lee
The tip on this rod is very sensitive and also very breakable if one does not really protect it. I have not had a problem with mine in the last 4 trips out. I believe that any of these type rods with tips this sensitive will break if one doent really protect them. I had another brand name deadstick and broke the tip and really wasn't sure how I did it. Now, I take extra precautions with these deadsticks so I dont have it happen again to me. I love these rods. slipperybob
I took the same kind of precautions as the same as the St Croix premiere ice rods. I don't know if the need to treat a rod like a hydrogen balloon would be of practicality to me. I'm using 1" pipe insulation tubes with the hassle of sliding one rod and taping it secure each and storing it in case. But you have to take the rod's out to use it...sooo. I had to use the cajun ice rod...Now this thing takes a lot of punishment. I do like the meatstik but now, gotta plan a trip back to cabelas...less time on the ice.
