Ice fishing 2007-2008

Chef . . . I'm waitng on Tim to make a decision . . . would like to join up with you guys. Now DC knows the virgin waters is not a garden spot right? I have a Lowrance Expedition that works like a charm. We used it last week on C to move to potential points and contours . . . it was on the mark(um).

Frank - I am fishing with Todd and Donny out of a private access area on the south shore of Big O. location unknown. It's one of Todd's honeys so you'll have to get clearance from him if you want to meet us out there. They have been running sleds and ATV's on O it's just that I am unfamiliar with the danger areas and sink holes and stuff that I don't know what areas would be of safe travel that's key.

Talked to Dark Cloud last night and there undecided as well for Saturday. Tried Doug and his phone was busy... Tuzzy could use a partner for Saturday as well.

The western NY crew will be around the North Bay Area. Mohawk Valley Joe will be on C. That is all the info I have now..

Are we a go for Saturday? Not sure if the little one is going or not now but I'm working on him, he wants to go to a one day mini-camp for JR Pee-Wee Football. That's what I do in the late summer and fall, going on 4 years now. It use to be kind a pain in the arse but now it great to see the kids go from no skills to being able to run plays and not afraid to take hits and make tackles.

Well, so far I think that Ray is meeting me in Caz. tomorrow morning!

I am still waiting to see if DC and Tank are going to meet us Ray, for a 'Gill & Callie Bash! If you boys want to come with us I will set a meeting time and place for Sat. morning. I would like to hit this spot while the dark is still there. Get a series of holes drilled and get on some of these UNPRESSURED fish eek.gif

I can only fish until about 9:30-10:00 AM and then I could be back with some LUNCH for all of us from the Restaurant around Noon!

This spot has never been fished through the ice, but it is real fishy and in the 3 trips I was there in my boat last summer I managed about 200 Callies with a bunch of 'Gills mixed in!

We'll see...I hope no one is Scared ;\)

A 6" will be bought over the summer though, easier to sight fish with that size.

Lee if you think a 6" is snappy for sight fishing try a 7". After seeing the viewing window on Big Johnny Ice's 7" hole, Sweet! I'm prepared for both situations with the 6" and 7" lazer shafts for the Mag III plus.

Vrooom! I know "Auger" Bud liked that \:D

Timmy, what kind of weather you getting out there? This sucks here, it's heavy freezing rain and they're talking up to 1/2" or more of ice eek.gif I guess the good thing is it's not pure rain but it's not going to be fun clearing the windshields on the vehicles mad.gif

Lee, lots of guys use 4" augers up here for perch on Lake George!

John- I just talked to Dark Cloud and they got freezing rain all morning down in Endicott. We got about 2" of light granular snow and it changed over 3 hours ago and at 11:15 a.m. I had to scrape an 1/8" of ice off my driver side window, took me 15 minutes to get her clear and she is till sleeting and freezing rain right now, YIKES!

Winds are supposed to be 20mph tomorrow and 30 mph on Sunday. I'll have to talk to Todd after he get's out of work becuase one place I do not want to be is on Oneida with winds like that unless I want to play flip the trap \:\(

I will give you a call after I get through lunch...we have a steady light freezing rain here. I don't think it will affect our plans one bit! If this turns to snow and we get some accumulation...it might be a long hard drag with the gear...or I can make a quick decision change and put us on some of those Jumbos down the road!!!

Chef, is it too late to get in on the trip? Not sure if my original plans are a go or not. My son and I want to hit the hard stuff somewhere tomorrow. I'm just not sure how many people you were planning on guiding tomorrow! \:\)

Hey all that was out there yesterday, very nice meeting new people and seeing old faces again. Once we left Sunami Lake the weather was nice, fishing was good(did I mention I love bluegills), and the atmosphere for picking on Timmy was great.

We will definatly be making that drive again...

Timmy was in charge of photography but I did take this one just to pick on him some more. You gotta work on your close-ups and hooksets. It is entertaining to be 10 yards away and hear the rod hit the top of the trap though. grin.gif

You guys that stayed when we left - the fishing was picking up solid, did it get better?

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
