This guy deserved his own thread.

Well I waited out many mallards this morning hoping this boy would come in. Saw him yesterday while scouting. It all payed off!! Notice the orange bill whereas the drakes otherwise have a yellow bill.

Very cool. THat will make a great mount. I have been watching one in my town for the last 5 + years. I have only seen him once while hunting and it was flying high.

Look, I'm no waterfowl or wildlife expert, and I'm not saying, I'm just sayin, but don't albino animals lack pigment in their eyes? Like, don't they have pink eyes? I see the mallard curls, I see the mallard shape, I see how it looks like a mallard, but how do ya know if it isn't a farm duck?

Again, I'm not trying to rip you, I'm just looking for information.

I Was thinking about that too, I have heard that alot of the white mallards are a cross breed of domestic ducks and mallards. Still cool and rare.

Are the eyes red?

That is usually a sign of albino.

I think its strange that the bill is orange. Wouldn't you expect a true albino to have a 'normal' colored yellow bill?

Anyway... really, really cool bird!

I thought myself and receieved e mail about it being a cross. Guess I'm not sure what to think. I can tell you the way it flew in turning side to side how they do with the other mallards you would never believe it could have any domestic duck in him. But his eyes were black, not pink. I do know that he's 100% wild now, and in my freezer to go to a taxidermist.

Dont want to burst your bobble, but I am williing to bet that that duck is a call duck (snowy call). They were used by market hunter. Alot of people in the game farm buisiness also use them to set their really good duck eggs under them (like can eggs,pintail eggs, goldeneye eggs,etc.) I raised wild waterfowl for more than 25 yrs, and we raised more than 24 specices of ducks and 3 species of geese( seberian red-breasted, ross and emperor geese).

Call ducks only weight about 1.5 lbs. This duck was much larger than that and the bill was oranger and larger. Also definately not a pekin duck, although possibly a pekin mallard cross. I lived on a hobby farm with pekins for a couple years and the body shape to them is quite a bit different than a mallard. This duck was shaped like a mallard. I do know my ducks.

Found a picture of a Rouen, a Pekin, and a mallard in the same photo. You can see how a Pekin is more stout and has the typical plump domestic duck shape. They are also larger than a mallard.

I shot a white one about 10 yrs ago. I was told (from wildlife biologist)if the beak is short and wide it is crossed with a tame duck, if it is narrow and long it is a wild duck. The one I shot was long and narrow. Just to let you know. If I new how to post pictures I would post one.

My fiance and I had a couple pet pekin ducks two years ago...my understanding they're one of the few ducks that don't fly. This has to be a mallard, or maybe a cross bred. Did it bomb into the decoys?

All I know is your bird totally looks like a Mallard, only white with an orange bill. After that, I'm taking a shot in the dark at what its crossed with. It sure doesn't look domestic as most domestic birds have that 'plump' back end to them like you mentioned. The white curls are pretty sweet!

awesome bird, looks like it has a lot of wild charactristics as others have mentioned. I will run the pic by some biologists I know and see what they think. Thanks for sharing.
