fishin magician
If a guy caught the state record and kept it on a lake that doens't get fished much would he have to disclose the name of the lake to the public? Or should you just throw it back and say that it could have been the state record and keep the lake from getting pounded?
Scott K
Did you catch the state record?
papabear
Maybe the question is, do you have to give them the real lake you caught it on? I used to read the big fish report in the Duluth paper and would laugh at some of the lakes that fish supposedly came out of.
Team Otter
I'd love to learn more about the bite on the Columbia River. Please send me an e-mail when you have a chance at [email protected]. Thanks!
Grant Pearson
going back to the original question, one lake that I think is over looked, and will be getting better, a lot better, in the next few years, is Lake Vermillion. I spent an entire summer working on a resort up there and got to know the Cook end of the lake very well. I saw the big ones that people were catching and knew where to catch them. The largest I saw pulled out was over 13, and largest I pulled out was 31.25", and a touch over 12 pounds.

Every fish they pulled to the boat exceeded 8lbs+. Seems like an awesome fishery.

Grant Pearson
I was reading a magazine that said a guy had caught a possible world record from the Columbia. He released it because his scale read something like 11.5. Later, he realized that it was set on KG, not lbs, and after doing the math, realized that it would have weighed something like 25.35 pounds. fishuhalik
What kinda meathead would mistake a 25lb eye for a 11.5? I've never seen an 11, but I'm pretty sure I could tell if my scale was a little off

Ebiz
That's what I thought when I read the article, and the guy is a professional guide! If anyone's looking for the article, it's in this month's issue of Outdoor Life, mine just came in the mail yesterday. Grant Pearson
I have no idea!!!! you'd have to know that it was a little heavier than 11!!! He caught a 15 pounder after it, and only then did he figure out that his scale was set to Kg.

Grant Pearson
I think we all wish we had a day like that!! just catching a 15 pounder would be great!! But, seriously. Catching a 25+ pounder followed by a 15pounder? wouldn't the 15 pounder seem like a minnow after the first one?
papabear
Wow!! releasing an "11#" without thinking much about it. That says a lot about that fishery.
Grant Pearson
no kidding. releasing a 15 pounder without really thinking about it? that really says something.
use2bwalleyefanatic
I think the guy's messed in the head and looking for a little publicity. The people I know that fish a lot can tell the difference between an 18" walleye and a 19" walleye. Granted, we catch a lot more 18" and 19" walleyes but who can't tell the difference between 11.5# and 25#. Which of these vehicles is bigger, the Suburban or the Volkswagon? HMMMM, can I think about it for a minute?
Eckie
My apologies for "drifting" a bit from the original post but thought if some of you hadn't checked out the Washington forum in a while and saw the hog that was caught on the Columbia(sometime ago, I think), I'd share it. From the little research I did on the Columbia, our average walleye size in MN is stupid silly small compared to the beasts out there. http://www.fishingminnesota.com/forum/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=983429&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=
