Net or FLip

Lets hear it boys.

I have been watching alot of fishing tournaments on tv. Ya i know, there pros, but most of the fish that they flip in the boat, are monsters.

On a average, do you net the fish, or flip it in the boat?

I always flip them into the boat... rarely have problems with the 6Lb Powerpro line I am using. NOW... the rare 4LB+ I will use the net! For security. Line 'should' hold but they can twist at the exact moment and spit the hook or break the knot!

Really depends on the situation. Some tournaments are flip only, no use of nets is allowed. I personally would net any fish if the tournament rules allow it. If I am out fishing for fun I generally flip all but the big toads. Even then I like to lip em because I have lost some nice fish fumbling with the net in one hand and the fish makes one final dash. Just my opinion.

When I am just fun fishing, the net stays in storage.. I dont care how big the fish is. I also dont flip them in the boat when fun fishing. Its not good for the fish to have the slime removed.. So I do my best to lip em all. I will net a pike from time to time if it has a crankbait in its mouth. On tournament days, I will usually net the fish.

I try to flip it if i think the hook is in well enough, but if it isnt, I lip it. I landed every fish I wanted to land this weekend. Those dinks love senkos!

For fun fishing it is "nothing but lip", for tournaments it is the same unless nets are allowed then "nothnig but net". I do occasionally flip the smaller fish and grab them in the air when I use a baitcaster but not with a spinning rod generally.

I almost flip all fish in on a jig, unless it is 4+, which can be hard to do. Otherwise, I usually grab them when I'm by myself. The only time I keep a net handy is when I'm fishing a crankbait, since bigger fish rarely stay hooked good on a crankbait. Most tournaments I fish allow nets. laugh.gif

I never, ever net a bass. I didnt even net my best, a 23 1/2 incher. i just lip grab them. I figure, that since I am not keeping it, why bother? so what if he falls off right next to the boat. The only thing I net are walleyes, and even then If I dont plan on keeping it I don't net it. Ive landed walleyes up to 26 inches by grabbing them, and done the same with pike over 40". As a matter of fact, the only time I even ever put my net in the boat is If I am going specificaly for walleyes.

just my .02$

I agree I never net them either because it's bad for there slime coating, So if they are really feisty I club them into submission so I can safely remove the hook without hurting there slime.

Flip em on the lil guys (Under 2) lip them for most everything else unless I'm using a crankbait and I don't want trebles in my hand then out comes the net.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
