The First picture as I stated in an earlier post was on Lake George near St. Francis. (Anoka County)

The second picture was a few days later on Blue lake between SF and Zimmerman. (Isanti)

Made it out on pool 2 today, I caught 14 lmb in about 2.5 hrs. The bite was very aggressive today, All fish except one were caught on a spinnerbait around wood or rocks in a backwater channel. I only caught one fish flippin a jig, and then I caught the exact same fish from the same tree five minutes later on a spinnerbait. I know it was the same fish because it had a giant scar on its side and it measured 15 in both times I couldnt believe it. Has anyone ever had this happen before? The only thing I could think of was maybe it was gaurding fry or something? Anyways it was a great day on the river smile.gif

South of the bridge. St paul park, grey cloud, IGH, and even as far down as cottage grove sometimes. I rarely fish north of the old bridge in newport.

My report 6/2:

Had to go to work this morning mad.gif so I didn’t hit the lake tell eleven. I headed to a smaller lake by Dassel. There we only two other boats on the water when I got there, one was a smaller fishing boat (fishing pan fish) the other a speed boat. So I knew I would have the lake all to myself…

I had all the rods ready to roll before I left. A Senko, Soft Jerkbait, Flipping Jig, Shaky Head Worm, X-Rap, Swimming Jig, and a Lipless crank bait were my weapons. My plan was to cover a lot of water at first then slow down and work the areas I found fish in.

I headed to the north side of the lake are started with the swimming jig over the top of a weed line. I was on the out side edge casting almost all the way to shore and bring it back across the hole weed line. After catching a few little ones from the inside of the weed line I caught one close to 4 lbs. Right then I knew where the fish were. I moved in shallow and really started catching them good the swimming jig (Green Pumpkin) and also the soft jerk bait (white).

I move to some docks on the west side of the lake and started flipping them with the Jig (brown) and Senko (Green Pumpkin and Junebug). The fish were there and I caught a few nice one.

Had to leave early because of the weather and grad parties but I ended up catching close to 15 bass, 6 of them were good size and 2 of them were close to or over 4 lbz. It was a good day and that’s why I went to this lake, Not a lot of people know about it and I have done really good there in the pasted. I cant wait to get out next…. I will be on the water Monday (maybe Waconia) for sure and maybe even tomorrow… I can’t wait…

Good Fishing… smile.gif

Today was my MN bass opener, last weekend I was stuck fishing 'em in Florida.

Hit a metro lake early and started right away looking towards the docks and inside weedline but suprisingly it didnt produce much. I figured they couldnt be too far away so backed off and began casting weed flats in the 4-6' range and began picking up a few nice fish but still nothing too big. My next move was to the outside weedline. Found a few fish on the weedline and they had some size to them. After finding fish on the deeper weedline I decided to try some other off shore structure that is good to me in summer but nothing was home. Tried docks several more times throughout the day with little success.

It appeared to me today that fish are beginging there transition to summer spots already. All in all ended the day with just 12 fish most coming on a wacky senko and t-rigged norries bug away from the shoreline. Biggest fish was a hair under 20".

OLY, yeah a few times, once I got a one eyed bass three times. I got him and let it go, it would swim out about twenry ft, then turn with the blind side toward me. I pitched my jig to his good side, and he nailed it again. threw him back and repeated the same sequence again. the third time it didnt even pull back when i reeled it in!

I got to go out on a west metro lake with Fishers of men fishing club. I fished with Bill Dadd in his nice lund boat. Thanks for the fun day Bill! Fish were scattered in the shallows and you really had to hunt for them, but they were big fish. My bait of choice was a albino zoom fluke plastic around inside weellines, and around a pontoon I got some nice ones too.

Wow, nice fish everyone! Sounds like a lot of excellent reports.

I made it out yesterday with a buddy for a good portion of the day. We started off fishing an inside weedline at sunrise and popped a few largies in the 2-3 pound range. Worked buzzbaits and RT Slugs. Tried working over a few fish in the reeds but no-go. Also stuck a couple along a neck-down area where the weed types mixed with a short stack of rocks.

As the day progressed we moved deeper and worked over a pod of a fish in 8-12 feet of water with a Title-shot jig and Sweet Beaver. Also picked up several fish on a stupid-rigger Comida and Ogur Slug. The deeper water fish were definitely more concentrated and eager to bite. Wasn't uncommon to hook 5-6 off one single patch of a weeds.

The sun was high and I just had to try docks for a little while. Turns out the dock bite was the hot ticket for the day. Ended up catching darn near half our fish for the day off docks, including our two largest which might have ticked 4 pounds at the high end. Wacked-rigged Comidas took pretty much all the fish off the docks.

We left the lake around 2pm and beat the weather.

Looks like some stable weather for the next several days. It's about time smile.gif

I've been out on a south metro lake the past three days. On friday afternoon I was prefishing for my club tourney and found them shallow with jigs and a stupid rig with a ring fry.

The tournament the next day started off shakey. I lost three fish at the boat including one close to 4lbs in the first hour(talk about frustrating), and was seeing an unbelievable amount on 3 pounders shallow, but could not get them to bite. Calm and sunny conditions in the morning made it tough, but I still managed to pick up a limit by backing off the inside weedline and making long casts before the fish saw me. 12 o'clock rolls around;clouds move in and the wind picks up a little bit. I went back to the spot that I saw all the fish in the morning and someone must have flipped a switch. I ended up culling out the limit I had in the last two hours and ended up with 17lbs 9oz for the day, all caught on jigs on the inside weedline.

Most of the bigger females were postspawn and alot of the 2.5-3lb females still hadn't spawned, I was surprised by this, but if you figure in the full moon we have right now they must have been the last wave of fish to spawn. At days end I had caught 21 fish and it may have been one of the best days I've ever had on the water. Went back today with a buddy and we caught a couple more good ones with the best being 4.5lbs.

Now I truly believe in that inside weedline bite that Ray and Deitz were talking about in the podcast and how it can be so hot at times!

Hiya -

I finally managed to get out for a decent amount of time this weekend, up near Pelican Rapids. Didn't fish Saturday, and didn't feel too bad about it - wind and monsoon rains... Weather moved out Sat. night though so Sun was actually pretty nice.

Ended up getting our from 5:30 - 10:00 or so Sun Am. Ended up with about 20 - 25 I suppose. Fished the rushes early, and fish were scattered out in the middle of the beds in 3-5 feet - not really in the heavy clumps, but cruising more in the sparser stuff. Caught some on spinnerbaits, but most came on plastics. Started with a T-rigged tube, but ended up catching most of the fish on a Berkley Sabertail Bug rigged on a Northland Jungle Lock Jig.

Most of the fish were smaller 1-3 pounders, so later in the morning I moved out to a couple of nearby points to see if I could find some bigger fish. Ended up getting a couple 18 inchers and one 19 incher, plus some smaller ones, on DT-10s and Poes RC-3s over some coontail that was coming up in 10-12'. Had to wade through a lot of dinky pike though... Fished a jigworm out there some too, but cranks did better on the bigger fish. Triggering thing maybe?

Later Sunday afternoon I went back out with the BOSS. Sun was out and wind was up by then, so the fish had pulled into heavier patches of rushes, sometimes very shallow (1-3 feet)and were actually hitting spinnerbaits pretty good. I stuck with the plastics mainly, but the wife outfished me coming behind me with a spinnerbait. Caught probably a dozen in an hour and a half, and she got an 18 incher that made a couple great jumps, so she was happy. Did try the deeper weedline briefly and caught one 4 pounder, and had another about the same size throw me on a jump.

Couple random thoughts/observations:

- The Sabertail Bug is getting to be my favorite plastic up shallow. It's bulky enough that you can cast it with a flipping stick and 25# Fluoro, but with the wings on the side, it falls incredibly slowly. Most fish I caught hit on the drop, and the Bugs definitely outproduced tubes. Tried Texas rigging them too, but the Jungle Lock works a lot better. The screw lock helps keep the body from sliding down on the hook when you pull it through cover, and it's just the right size.

- Fish really tucked into cover as soon as the sun came out. Early on they were out in the sparse rushes, but later were in tight to cover. I thought it was interesting though that when the fish were out away from cover, spinnerbaits didn't do much, but when they were in the thicker stuff, they did pretty well. I think maybe it was a case where in the spare rushes they got a long look and could decide whether or not to chase it down, but in the thicker rushes they had to either hit it or ignore it, and some of them got triggered? Who knows...

- Boy was I rusty at first when I started fishing plastics. Missed quite a few fish.

- When you're using 25# fluorocarbon and a flipping stick, and you set the hook with 8 feet of line out, rock bass really fly... shocked.gif

Cheers,

Rob Kimm

Ocf1-- The inside weedline is just like it sounds. The inside weedline is the shallowest part of the weedline or where the weedline starts. A lot of inside weedlines that guys are fishing know are the ones that are right off of a spawning flat.

My report 6/4:

I got a chance to hit the lake again this morning. Myself along with Bass N Spear hit a metro lake seen it was Monday morning and everyone else was heading to work!!! shocked.gif

We started the morning off fishing an inside weedline, Throwing Chatterbaits, Wacky Rigged Senkos, Swimming Jigs and some Tubes. It didn’t take long for use to get the action started. We were on the North side of the lake out of the wind make parallel casts along the weedline. We both were throwing Wacky Rigged Senkos right alone the edge of the weedline. There was a lot of Male up there with a few females. Caught about 7 to 10 fish 10 to 16 inchs. The sun was starting to come up and we started seeing the fish swimming around and heading towards the docks and under trees.

We started skipping some docks and it didn’t take long for Bass N Spear to stick a good one. She was right around 4 lbs (still need to find that scale smile.gif) she was good and Healthy fresh off a bed.

We stay shallow all day long and so did the fish. Ones the sun came out the fish were under docks or really tight to cover like RK said above. But the fishing was really good and we ended up catching around 20 bass with 8 of them being good tournament fish.

Wacky rigged Senkos were the hot ticket in Green Pumpkin, Junebug and Watermelon Red Flake.

Good Fishing… cool.gif

OCF, in my opinion the inside weedline can be a few things. On opener the cabbage was only growing up a few feet off bottom. I would say at about 2 or 3 feet deep it turned to sand. That is a definate inside weedline. But also, at 6 or 7 feet the milfiol started and was already grown to the surface. I would also call that an inside weedline because it is on the shallow side of the milfoil. However, one could argue it was the outside weedline of the cabbage. Still others may call it a transition point, which is probably correct. Hope this muddies things up a bit. (fish the edges wink.gif)

I've pretty much done my skipping weightless texas rig style. What style and size hook do y'all use wacky?

Waded a small south metro lake this evening for a couple hours. Had a couple hits on the spinnerbaits but nothing committed, topwaters were uneventful, and finally found the fish with a babybass colored soft jerkbait. Managed two 18" fish, one 15", and one small pike in the last 45 minutes or so of light. Outside edge of mixed weeds(pads and pondweed).

No kidding smile.gif

TNFL,

I've been using those Finesse Wide Gap hooks from Gamakatsu for wacky-riggin my Comidas. Small in profile and rarely snag weeds, yet they stick fish very well.
