TNFL
The first COT race is upon us. Will most people's opinions about the COT be based on whether the racing is better/decent or on how well their driver fairs with the new car?I will be the first to vow to judge the COT openly and without BAIS based on how my favorite teams finish. Will anyone join me?
VMS
I think at Bristol, getting any real solid idea of what the COT is going to be like is..well..unlikely. We are at a track where aerodynamics and body composition do not matter for the most part. We will see who was able to get a feel for the cars and who did not, but I don't see the racing being all that different. Maybe some more mix-ups and cautions than what we have seen in the past... We might get to see just how durable the cars are going to be when we get to a big track...then we will see how well they do, so I will hold off on my thoughts until then. I just don't see too much coming out of this race we can go on. Steve

eyepatrol
I agree with VMS. The only thing I wonder is how these cars will hold up to some "bumper action". The wing and front valence (sp?) look like if they get touched at all, you're done. I don't know....jury is out yet for me on this car.
TNFL
I agree, It is just a general idea though.
harvey lee
The COT cars we will just need to adjust too. They are the car of the future for cup. All teams will adjust and it will take a little longer for the smaller team owners and drivers. If the car has some issues with handling, NASCAR will just make some changes to fix the problem. I believe its here to stay.
Big Dave2
The COT is here to provide safety to the drivers. If it does that, then it will be well worth the learning curve that everyone will have to endure.

They want to see how good the cars stand up to contact. They should get plenty of that today.
Deitz Dittrich
I watched the whole race.. and got to thinking they kind of looked like the nascar truck series... But I am all about safety.. if it makes the drivers safer, so be it. I will still watch..I wonder if that comment in winners circle will cost mr. bush any money? fishing tech
What did he say? I flipped over to the gopher pregame right away.
xedge2002
Me too what did he say?? I kinda thought the same thing the cars looked like the truck series more than anything.
LMITOUT
"I'm still not a very big fan of these things," said Busch, who picked up his first win of the season and the fourth of his career. "I can't stand to drive them. They (stink)." Substitute "stink" for "suck", as that's what he actually said.

Double D
I agree they are probably safer, at least I hope so. One minor problem I have is that to me they just don't look as good. They don't have that sleek race car look anymore.Just my 2 cents.DD
Sutty
I am all for them if they are safer. They pointed out how the front whatchamacallit might cut down tires. That seems likely the way it sticks out. The only thing I really don't like is that it makes all the cars look like they are wearing braces Brings back painfull memories from Jr. High I'll say this about Bush's comments he does bring a little color to the sport, remember his lot lizard or some such comments... He is just like a kid in the candy store I thought it was funny
Meaney
I honestly didn't get a good vibe from these cars. Maybe it was because it was at Bristol and not at a bigger track. This had to be the most boring race I have ever watched. But I have to get used to it, I guess the COT will just have to grow on me.
TNFL
Quote: They don't have that sleek race car look anymore I agree about the front end. But to me the back never looked sleek on the old cars. In fact I think it looked kind of stew-pid to have that wing sticking up. Not that the new spoiler is much better, but I like the spoiler better than the whale tale.
OUTDOORNUT
Well I'm glad I wasn't the only one that saw the similarities to the Trucks. The Trucks put on a heck of a show, but you at least can tell the make of most. One of my buddy's said they all looked like Camry's!
harvey lee
I thought it was a very boring race. Just maybe everyone was holding back just a little as they may have been concerned about damage to the car. Noone knows what might happen to these new cars as far as fixing them during the race. VMS
I did find one aspect interesting..the little data cards on the parts, like the fuel cell, the wing, etc. The parts have to be approved before they can even go on the car (or something of that type) and if they don't have them, they cannot use it..Steve
PerchPounder
i didnt get to the race but i watched some coverage on speed last night and i had to laugh at all the "young guns" complaining about a car that didnt handle and something that actually took some driving skill and ability. anyfishwilldo
My wife thinks the COT is very cool. The only reason for that, is because I bought her a SS Impala. I am quite disappointed, because it is jet black and she won't let me paint a "3" on the door.
Cyberfish
Well, looks like it passed the durability test! *except for the fuel lines*!
