Most UNDERrated drivers?

Having to follow the Overrated forum, lets try something different!!

Who are the most underrated drivers in NASCAR?

Montoya. He gets lots of publicity but not that many people think he can win. I think he will win.

I also think he may win but not this year as he has alot to learn yet in a cup car.

I'd say Jamie McMurray. The guy can drive, but things just are not quite all there yet team-wise...It's been a tougher transition than I think rousch was expecting...

Montoya I feel will win a race or possibly two this year. He's made some big adjustments already and is doing quite well so far. Been in a couple wrecks that were wrong place wrong time and collected, but overall I think he has done well for a rookie.

Jeff Burton, many people, myself included don't consider him an elite driver. However his performance last year and so far this year are leaning that way.

Kyle busch, that kid can drive. He just needs better judgement and patience.

I just feel if he had better equipment (i.e. - cars that don't break down), that he'd be doing much better. I don't like the guy one bit, but I think he's underrated as a driver.

Interesting question...and answers.

Jeff Burton I think probably does deserve a mention, back in like 2000-2001 and would have bet tons of money he'd have been Rousch's first champion. He seems to be back to form now. I like him too.

Jeff Gordon, now there is an answer that will inspire debate! You could make the argument that he doesn't get the credit he deserves given where he ranks in ALL the career statistics, but I don't know that he's underrated.

Robbie Gordon? He has talent no doubt, but he's had good rides and whizzed them away too because he is a block head. Pure driving wise, he's as good as any, but a smart productive racer over a season? Not.

How about Bobby Labonte? He's a cup champ in rotten equipment but he's made great strides in bringing Petty back. That's no easy task either...

I'll second LABONTE! Petty Enter. has only won a couple of races since "the king" went on his own. If Labonte drove for several other owners he would be much higher in the finish column.

I'd maybe give you Robby Gordon, but the rest are in no means "underrated". Everyone knows on almost any given Sunday the others could easily be in the Top 5.

The guys that are making the most of lesser equipment, making races, improving positions, and not just riding around. The ones not getting the T.V. time or the press for a Top 10, etc. A diamond in the rough. These are the guys that are underrated.

We could fill the forum with press about everyone of those drivers and their acomplishments. Just like we could with the most Overrated........Mikey.

Jeff Burton and Labonte are both underrated. Just a few years ago they were two of the best and cleanest drivers in cup. Now, they don't have panache the ever-changing media or the new generation of fans wants to embrace. They can still wheel it, but they are over-looked.

Jeff Green, he dominated in Busch but always gets crappy cars in cup. Put him in the 48 car and he would win...

I have never heard anybody rave over Mikey. He is good at working the draft. He just has alot of media savvy and a lucky last name.

My point excatly! He is getting coverage where there isn't any due, thus taking the spotlight away from the real underrated drivers that actully might have done something worthly of some.

There are drivers that get press and T.V. time no matter how they are running, but that is how Nascar likes it.

Bobby is one of my favs too, would like to see him get that petty car back in VL!!!

Bobby is a great driver, but his days of getting good stuff to work with ended when he left Gibbs. Petty just is not willing(or able) to drop the kind of cash it takes to be competitive these days. Robby Gordon is a menace who should not be allowed on a track of any kind. I think Casey Khane does not get the credit he deserves. If he can figure out how to finish a race the way he starts it, watch out.
