Harvey, I agree with you about Jr., he is as good as he can be. I actually think he is a decent driver. My disagreement is with those that think he is one of the best out there. Personally, he's not in my top 5 but he is in many fans' so I think he would be considered overratted. Remember, it all depends on who you are reffering to as the RATER.

Nascar Fans: JR, Martin, Newman

Fans tend to think these guys are better than they are.

Nascar Media: Newman, waltrip, and OK Biffle

Announcers, websites, and the general media hype these guys up to better than they actually are.

P.S. I would like to apologize in advance to any who think I am turning this into a BASHING thread. I mean no Ill will.

I don't know, there are a lot of drivers out there that would love to have the best stuff DEI produces...

At any rate, I do think Jr. is without a doubt overrated, only because as someone else said, so many people have him on such an absurdly high pedestal. Let's face it, Matt Kenseth and him came into Cup together there is really no comparing who's done more, but I'm sure Little E would be "rated" higher, thus making him overrated.

I think probably the most overrated guys though are more like: Jamie McMurray, David Stremme, Brian Vickers and Casey Mears. I'd probably throw Newman in there too due to the "what have you done for me lately factor", although there is obviously something quite wrong at Penske these days too.

I'd agree with this list except I'm giving Mears this season to see if he can produce a win or get in the chase. If not, he would be overrated IMO. Not many excuses or reasons left when you're running with one of the top organizations in motorsports.

Waltrip- because of the name.

Mears- because of the name.

Junior- because of the name.

Of the 3, Junior has, hands down the biggest shoes to fill. Which, he never will be able to. However, if DEI gets it together or he goes to RCR I'll take his name off this list cuz he'll no longer be over rated. He'll be a cup winner.

My 3 drivers...Newman, McMurray, and E. Sadler.

As most of you have figured out, I'm a Little E fan. Of course, I do not think he is an over-rated driver. However, and it pains me to say this, he drives for an over-rated company. DEI has not shown the ability to take the next step up to the likes of Rousch, Hendrick, and RCR on a consistent basis. Perhaps this may be partly why Jr. wants majority ownership of the company.....

Waltrip

Jr.

Mayfield

I have Jr. on this list not because he is not a good driver but I feel he is not one of the top seven or eight drivers that can put up consistant results. The better drivers not only do not cause problems on the track but also end up near the front at the end of the race when they start out with a bad handling car at the beginning.

Heres a thought...how about the 20? He is aproaching Jeff Gordon status but has not won nearly as much. I am also in NO WAY a 24 fan, unless were rooting for retirement or dnf's.

Hmmmmm, what if Jr went to Rousch racing?

Montoya is quickly becoming overrated IMO. Holy smokes these media people have him high up on a pedestal now just because he won a road course race IN THE BUSCH SERIES without beating the better (not best) road course guys in NASCAR, then qualifies in 4th or whatever it was, and he finishes 22nd.

I don't think Montoya will win one cup race this year. Not even a roadcourse race. And I'll venture to say that he won't win an oval track race in Busch this year either. He might win a cup race or oval Busch race next year, if he's lucky.

In reading through these posts in both the over/under rated threads, I wonder if over/under EXPOSED is a better question.

Montoya is well over exposed at this point. I never heard anyone say or claim where he would rank at the end of the season, but there sure is a lot of hype about this guy and it's getting old. Just because he came from F1 or Indy or Cart or whatever it is called these days, he's supposed to be the second coming the way they are talking about him. Way over exposed.
