Marcum Store Returns

I have this number for the upgrade 763-493-3748. I think it was 50 bucks for the upgrade. I still have not, and probally will not send mine in. 50 bucks for a color, and the time it takes, is valuable time away. If I did send it in, it would be the end of march.

besides, I know how to read mine the way it is, I would have to rethink it all over again with the upgrade shocked.gif

Having zero experiance using any flashers, I picked up a Marcum LX-2 a few days ago and finally had a chance to test it out this weekend. One thing I found it hard to get use to reading after using my Eagle Easyfish LCD was getting use to reading the dial on on the flasher. But after using it the last 2 days it was a no brainer. Worked flawlessly and I could see the fish move in for the kill. I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to figure out how to use. No complaints from a newbie to Marcum products, even my 10 year son had it figured out.

Marcums are returned 10-1 over the Vexs.

Maybe this is because Marcums out sell Vex's 10-1.

If you sell 10x the amount of units over the competitor you will have a higher number on the return rate. However when all said and done the return % could be less.

I hate to tell you this but I bought an LX1 in January of 03. By February of 04 I had to send it in for a new transducer which they replaced because it was still under warranty. Well I think my transducer just went out again in 06!! I'm not saying, I'm just saying......

I do not see enough facts to believe that story at all. This is a rumor that re-surfaces every year without basis in fact for current happenings. Every company will have a few defective units. The real story is how quickly do those issues get resolved.

MarCum would have been out of business long ago rather they are booming in sales because of the features and quality they put out there.

Word of mouth is the only way a new Company comes in and not only competes with the long established giant in the industry but actually takes a huge chunk of their market.

Don't get me wrong, I love Vex for what they are but when something with more for less comes along I will let you know.

You can be comfortable you will be well taken care of and appreciate your MarCum depthfinders.

That's the thing about rumors, there is no way to verify. Short of geting warranty data from Marcum and cross-referencing it with store returns who really knows?

I would think that it would be in Marcum's best interest to publish data in order to take the air out of this rumor. If they did have a problem at launch, which nearly every product does, and have fixed it they could tell the story and highlight how good things are now. It could be a marketing plus, rather than a persistant rumor.

The only problem I've had with my LX-5 is the knobs loosening up on them. An easy fix with a small allen wrench, and I mean small. At first I thought the set screw was stripped because the allen wrench just spun, but it turned out that I hadn't gone small enough. Once I found the smaller size allen wrench that fit, it was good to go.

It's a nice piece of equipment that has served me well, no complaints here.

I just talked with Mike "Cold Front" Kurre from Gander Mountain. He has heard no such thing about MarCum. He stated he was pleased with MarCum.

It's always best to go to the source to get the facts.

Here's the email I got back from customer service. Just so everyone knows how small.

"Email me your address and I will have a replacement knob sent out. You will

need a .050 Allen wrench to install it."

I bought one of their cameras one of the first years that they came out. The camera got water in the lens. It took all winter before I got it back from them. Needless to say I will not buy any Marcum products after that poor example of customer service. It cost me the whole stinking year without a camera. I have had a FL-8 for about 10 years and have never had a problem. I don't even think about it going bad on me. Awesome product and most important tool on the ice.

Let me tell ya bout my Marcum experience. Keep in mind this is from someone who has 2- FL18's and loves them. In 2004 I bought a Marcum 560 camera. Worked great until the end of the ice season when the camera went black. I called Marcum and they said to send it in. Since ice fishing had come to an end and I don't use the camera in the boat I wasn't overly concerned with getting it back quickly. which I told them. I just wanted it prior to the 05 ice season. Well about 6 months later I realized I hadn't gotten my camera back. When I called they were very embarrased that it had been so long. There was some kind of mix up. At that point they told me they were waiting on a order of new upgraded cameras for the units. I said fine, I'll wait. A couple more months went by, several emails were exchanged but still no camera. It was now November and I was having delusions of early ice and no camera. Called back down to Marcum and let them know I was getting a little concerned. They immediately overnighted me a recoditioned 560 along with a couple of ice rods. They also told me when the new camera heads came in they would repair my camera and send it back which they did. When they sent my camera back they threw in a new LXi with the kit. By the time the dust settled I had 2 cameras, 2 ice rods, and an LXi. Long story short they stepped up to the plate. Vex has had a few problems along the line also and they seem to always deal with them in a satifactory manner. Technology is ever evolving. I agree customer service is key. IMO both are quality companies and both offer quality products.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
