Just picked up the new auger yesterday and I'm pretty excited grin.gif Just wanted to know if any of you guys have used this model before and if you know of any bumps in the road I should watch out for. All I've heard is good things about the guys in Big Lake and the products they sell. I've got the portable set up in the back yard and a new auger just waiting on the ice now. Also I wanted to know if you guys think I should have gone with a 3 hp or if it even makes that big of a difference.

Nothing! Never a problem with mine. I can suggest that you use "blue lube" for the linkage. When I first got mine, it was a little tough to use. Take care of it and it will last a long time.

I have had mine for over 8 years without any problems. I don't think there would be any use for a 3hp auger unless you end up fishing areas that get so much ice that you need an extention to make it through. I have had my auger all the way down to the Ice before and had to kick the slush away just to make it the last inch or so and it never struggled.

Have fun,

Lazer Mag Express is my auger of choice and I've been running the same one for the last 5 years now.

If you ice fish a lot, I would consider putting new blades on the auger every year, you'll really appreciate that. Also with the blades, be very careful with them. Do not bang them into anything and don't slam them down into the ice. If the blades get nicked up too much, the cutting performance goes way down. Just treat the auger nice and you'll be happy with it.

The only other thing I'd recommend is to NOT run the Strikemaster oil in the auger. I would run the Strikemaster oil for my first tank, and then switch to a synthetic like Amsoil Saber. Its better to break in the new motor with a "regular" oil and then switch to synthetic later. The auger will perform much better with Amsoil.

I actually run the Strikemaster oil in my Lazer Mag and have since I bought it. What type of performance improvements would I see if I switched over to Amsoil Saber?

You should notice improved starting, smoother running, and a little less smoke too.

I'm fairly positive you have a black, oily residue coming out of your exhaust with the Strikemaster oil. I know I did. With an oil like Amsoil, you won't have that black oil getting spit on the walls of your shack.

Thats just a couple things I've noticed. That black oily gum coming out of the exhaust is a result of that Strikemaster oil.

I even ran a couple gallons of gas mixed with Klotz Techniplate synthetic (racing snowmobile oil) through my auger a few years ago and that oil was much better than the Strikemaster oil.

I would give it a shot and see what you think. It will not harm your auger at all and if you don't like it, you could always switch back.

I was one of those guys who was a little bit skeptical of trying something different, but from advise of many other guys on the forums here, I tried it and haven't looked back.

Agreed on the black goo - my one and only complaint with my Lazer Mag after 3 years of use. Where can you find the Amsoil Saber? Is it available in stores or do you have to go through an Amsoil rep?

Blaze, you can find the Amsoil Saber at many fleet stores. I bought mine at L&M Fleet and I've also seen it at Fleet Farm in Brainerd.

I agree with everything said on this thread, it's a great product! I use it in all the two-strokes I own.

I have the same auger and like it. Out of the box it binded at the bottom of holes and had the oil problem. Strikemaster adjusted the carb and the rpm's and no more binding or oil residue. The vents on the plastic caps do break once in awhile and they did have a problem with the recoilf for awhile too. Just carry an extra cap and I think that the recoil issue has been corrected by now.

Yes you can buy AMSOIL in some stores in some towns, but I would appreciate you giving me a chance too. I have signed on as a sponsor, and can help with many of your mechanical questions as well as your lube questions. As in any business, if I don't do at least a certain amount of business I can't afford to stay.

Use my links below to access my on-line store - with delivery right to your door with no hassle of chasing it down.

I LOVE mine. I'm glad somebody said to replace the spark plug I am sure I would have forgotten.

I thought about the three horse for a while because I had the three horse Jiffy for a long time. Glad I am NOT lugging around a three horse.

Don - sorry I missed your post earlier - I bought a small bottle of Sabre at a local auto store to try it out. I will certainly go through you when I need more...which will hopefully be SOON!

  • Your Responses - Share & Have Fun :)

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
