Mad Mulcher
It's time for an unofficial head count and a little debate on potential dates. This get together will be a great opportunity for some of the Morson regulars who have never actually seen each other to meet, greet and FISH! Also, if you have never ventured north of the border during hard water season, Morson is centrally located on LOTW with easy access to fantastic walleye and lake trout action. This would be a great chance for newbies to fish with some guys that have extensive knowledge of the area.
Scoot
I've very interested in this. The date picked will largely determine if I can go or not. I'll chime in with a yea or nay once I have a date to work with.
Shorelunch
This will be fun. I'm all for Morson and am looking forward to meeting the Morsonites.
Eastwind
Let's start by those of us interested in going listing the weekends that we can, or cannot make it. Then we can use a process of elimination to come up with a weekend that will work for all or at least the majority. I suggest that we plan on a Friday arrival so I will refer to the Fridays of each weekend. I will plan to fish three days. I can make it the weekend of December 15th ( might there be ice?), Jan. 5th, Jan. 26th or Feb 2nd. Certainly, my vote is just one of many, including the Friday arrival suggestion, but it is a starting point.Mulcher. We are almost neighbors. I live in Ham Lake. Hemlock
I'm in. Depending on the date however. I'll be in Australia from late Dec. to Jan. 18th. Anything after that works for me.
Wild Thing
I will try to make it but can't comit at this point to a specific weekend. Just an fyi, the Morson Live fish release contest is slated for Feb. 24, methinks. It's a fun, small event sponsored by local community association. Starts with a pancake breakfast, then a small fishing contest on the ice out of Mylies area, then a party that night at the community hall. Just an idea. We're going to try to make that one again. P.S. I wouldn't count on good ice everywhere by Dec. 15 as of now, but that can change fast.
rockpt
I might come up from KC depending on the dates and if I can get someone to share the driving between Minneapolis and Morson. Wife won't be coming with me and it's a long drive for one person.
welfedted
Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Ted "well fed ted" and I,ve been watching this site since i met the Mad Mulcher last winter. I have a house in Morson that I keep heated all winter. It took me awhile to get logged in and I'm not sure if this posting will even make it. I'm interested in the extravaganza but I'm not sure about dates yet. FYI Morson has a great ice fishing contest annually. I'm not sure if its open to everyone. Toni at the store or Ken at Pelican Landing might have more details. I hope to meet and fish with all of you in the near future. WFT
Eastwind
rckpt,You can jump in with me at Ham Lake, MN. I know that you've been within two miles of my house in the past so you will be able to find the way. I have a flip ice house that will fish two easily and tows behind a rental sled at any speed I want to travel at. I assume that Pelican Landing will have enough sleds for everyone that needs to rent one. You people down in K.C. don't own snowmobiles, do you? Another friend, you know Jerry, may come and he's got his own sled and portable. Plenty of room in my truck.
Mad Mulcher
I think we should shoot for the end of January. We need to be sure that Hemlock can be involved in this event! I don't know if he knows how to catch a fish, but if nothing else he can show off his "down under" tan. Ken will have gas available at Pelican Landing. Eastwind
I can make the weekend of the 27th, 28th and 29th. I'll drive up Friday night and will be able to fish Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Who else can make that weekend? I will need to rent a sled. How many sleds will Pelican Landing have available to rent, assuming that others may need to rent one. Yeah, I'll be there to show off my tan.... and maybe catch a fish or 200.
Down Deep
I've fished the Morson area many times but never in winter. This sounds like a good time. Early March is good for me. Warmer temps and lots of light are pluses for March. I'm tied up with 3 trout fishing trips to the Crow lake area in January and early Feb. pelicanlanding
The weekend of Jan 26 is good for me. I have 3 cabins available also 4 sleds for rental. Depending on snow conditions and ice cracks may be able to access walleye and crappie fishing by trucks. lake trout fishing would require a sled. I will also offer breakfast and supper in the main lodge. We do not offer alcholic bevrages but you are allowed to bring your own. A package price for lodging and two meals per day $50.00 pp per day. Mad Mulcher
It's official. Last weekend in January. 10 bucks per pot for biggest walleye and trout. 2 separate pots. You all can save some hassle by making your checks payable to Jeff Rowe right now as I will more than likely win both categories! LOLROLL CALL! Wild Thing
Darn, I'm already in on another trip that weekend. But have a great time! I can offer a few nearby fishing spots, but I'm sure pelican landing knows most of them.FYI... the ice is starting to fill in now. Should be good enough for snow machines by the 15th or so if it stays this cold. A lot of the bigger lakes still have open water, though.
marknamy
If I can talk my wife out of dragging me to Fargo that weekend I'm in. We may have to discuss her priorities.
Eastwind
I plan to be there. I just need to confirm that Rckpt and/or another fishing buddy is available. Hopefully all three of us can make it. The price of $50.00 per day including breakfast and dinner is very fair. I will try to confirm within a day or two. Eastwind
Two of us are in and there may be a third. I will email Ken to confirm with him that I will need a snowmobile for the weekend. Who else?
benelli_dude2002
The last weekend in January huh. Hope I can make it. I am taking the week of the 15th off work, some of the wife's relatives are gonna be here for the week for some snowmobiling so hopefully we get some snow. Oh yeah and my wife's dad is getting married on the 15th. I got my rods all spooled up with fresh line and I finally got me a Vexilar. So I look forward to some fishing this winter. I am going to head up there next weekend for some island hunting. Should be plenty of ice for the sleds by then with all this colder weather. Head to Arizona today and I should be back on thursday sometime, one extreme to the next in a matter of a couple days. Be safe out there! Hemlock
I will see how it looks for me. Just getting back from Australia on the 18th, and that only leaves me ~8 days to play catch up at work and get adjusted to our weather, etc.I'll have to be a "maybe". wiskodie1
Hi all, this is my first post on this forum, cousin marknamy never told me I had a home on the internet, glad to meet you all, with any luck ill be up there with my girlfriend and maybe a few other family and friends. If your trip goes as planed please count us in on the fun. Our cabin is right across the bay from Mylies resort. Just a little bit of an update for everyone headed up I was up there on the last weekend of deer hunting Dec. 12,13,14???? I think. There wasn’t much snow out on the lake, and the ice had been broken up by the wind early in the season which made for some bumpy spots, but the ice was hard and there was 12” everywhere I went, since then my family has been up a bunch more, no more snow yet and most of the snow that was up there got blown off the big water and landed in-between the islands on the east side of the lake, which made for much better snowmobile running. Last I heard there was around 20” of ice on the lake,(which is the one good thing about cold weather and no snow) with any luck there will be more snow this coming weekend. Most of my family will be up there for the new years, and I will have a lot better info to post when they get back. The best part about winter on LOW, the beer is always cold!!!! Heading up on Friday for a few days of trout fishing. Will report when we get back.
