Anyone going to brave the wind for a hunt today? I think I'm going to head out around 1:00 or so, I think the winds are supposed to lay down a bit this evening, the deer should be on the move...then its take the youngster out as a ladybug. (her not me).

I'm going to skip out of work a bit early today. I set a stand on Sunday near where I have been seeing the does' travel to a bean stubble field. There is a new scrape at the edge of the field so hopefully Mr. Buck will be following. Hopefully the wind dies for the evening hunt. Good luck all.

Busted bad last night.

Put an arrow through a doe this morning. Am waiting for her to bleed out before I get too much further along. I made a questionable hit, back a bit, and apparently low. Arrow passed thru completely, covered with a layer of greasy fat. Found a bit of white hair, so low exit.

Blew her out of her bed, which was only 15 yards from where I shot her. Plenty of good red blood, hoping it was liver. However, I waited a good hour before tracking, knowing the hit was suspect. Not dying within the hour was a bad sign. Lots of blood in the bed, and good blood trail leaving both from where I hit her, and from where she bedded.

Been here before, just have to wait a bit, and try to recover her tonight.

Went out last night as the wind died down, I saw 5 deer. The buck activity is really picking up. I blew the grunt last night and had an 8 pointer come running in so fast I wasn't ready. It's OK he wasn't as big as I would have liked. 10 Minutes later a fork trots in to inspect the noise, 10 minutes after that another fork is feeding in the cornfield in front of me. Good deer movement, get out and get going. I took Friday morning off, hopefully it will pay off.

Joel,

Good luck finding her, it sounds like this story should have a happy ending.

When you say you blew her out of her bed, do you just mean you walked up on her & jumped her after the shot? When they start bleeding good like that again, often when you go back they piled up within 100 yards or much less.

I gave her an hour after I hit her, knowing it was a questionable shot. I went to look for her, and then blew her out of the bed.

Made the mistake of telling my old man where I shot it.

He could only take fixing the chisel plow for about an hour....then, tore up into the woods with the tractor to go look for it. Didn't look for blood, he just starts wandering aimlessly. Gives up after an hour (which I'm sure means 5-10 minutes), then finds it laying by the tractor. Crazy old farmer smile.gif

Hit was a bit low, and a bit back.....bottom of the liver. Deer was a 1-2 yr. old doe, which will eat nicely!

I passed on a really big deer this morning early. Right under my stand. Couldn't see rack but I'm sure there was one there. Deer were really moving this morn.
