Steve Jonesi a.k.a. Superman goes 54x28

Steve broke out the Superman outfit and put his client on Friday onto a 54x28 monster. Why couldn't it have been Thursday when I was in his boat!!! This was the only fish they saw all day, and night as you can see. Steve works his tail off and when he says you'll throw until your arms fall off he's not kidding!

State record? Probably right on the magical 54 number. L*G*G/800 puts it at 53lbs, but look at the girth on this thing, from head to tail she is thick! She's still swimming, and from the looks of it she'll be eating again! Calling in sick tomorrow.....

Just got off the phone with him, he's still so pumped he nearly jumped thru the phone!

Congrats!

CJAC,

Thats funny, I saw Steve several times on Thursday with his clients, seemed we were fishing in the same general area.. Got a big fish on Thursday night, but nothing like the fish Steve's client got on Friday.. Make a side note, that it was EXTREMELY rough conditions, difficult to fish, and Steve got his client on a fish after dark in these conditions.. An amazing fish, wish I would have been fishing in front of Steve on Friday night... Congrads... W3ould love to see some more pics...

Oh yeah, caught on a Triple X.

I was throwing the actual lure it was caught on, must be my good luck on the bait rubbing off! Sweet action in the water and those blades really thump, they called Ms Piggy in!

ML: No muskies on Thursday for us, couple nice pike though. How late in the night did you hook up? Congrats!

Here's another picture on the measuring board.......sick and wrong!

Cjac,

My fish came RIGHT at sunset, got a really great pic of the sun just setting in the back ground and a hog fish.

Would love to hear the story, is this this guys first musky or 1000th? Is there going to be a replica made? etc... AWSOME fish!!!

cjac....shocked.gif Man, I was stunned when I brought up that picture! Geez! Man! What a fish!

My son and I were talking about this fish and in looking at this monster and the size of it, we were kind of wondering about that world record.

Louie Spray (sp) holds the record I do believe and his fish weighed what? 69 pounds, or something like that? I seen an old picture of him and the fish and man, I don't know?

From what I remember about the old photo, even at an estimated 50 some pounds, this fish looks alot bigger? Add another 16 or so pounds to this fish and there would be no comparison.

I know it's old photography vs new photography, etc. etc. but man, it's hard to imagine a muskie that big! The replica in Gander looks twice as big as the Spray fish in the photo I seen? Either that, or I'm not remembering it right?

This fish is just awesome...I keep looking at it.....

This was a hot topic today at Thorne Bros. That sure is a huge fish!! A 54x26 was caught a week or so ago by another guide out of Thorne Bros, and now Steve boats a 54x28!! Looks like the pigs have come out to play smile.gif

Definately a true giant and a fish of a lifetime!! Congrats Jody for wrangling that pig to the boat and for Steve to keep you out there and having a chance to stick her!! Steve is definately a great guide and can hunt those Mille Lacs pigs up!!!

I'll spoil the suspense, just because I was curious where it came out of as well.

I would say almost for certin it came out of Mille lacs.

This is where his web site says he guides out of most of the time.

All of the rock piles on Mille Lacs hold big fish at one time or another.. Be at the right place at the right time and this could happen, especially on Mille Lacs.. It is all about putting in your time until your effort pays off, Steve has put in his time and his client and steve are rewarded..

I got to see and talk to Steve today and to say he was stoked would be an understatement! Couldn't have happened to a better guy! And good for him and Jody for letting that monster swim another day. A tough decision and I'm sure a lot of people would have clubbed it and brought it in for an official weight. Again, congrats on an awesome fish!
