Just wanted to see what other people use for drilling holes, I use a 14 year old 2 hp 8 inch mag 2000[new price$189]. new it had a single chiper blade and after the screw part finaly fell off I picked up a lazer 2 blade bit and put it on the old power head this unit has realy been good to me I average 2000 holes a year and every year it starts rite up and dose it's job. So what do you guys run?

I purchased a Jiffy Legend last year and I love it. It will chew up 2' of ice in about 30 seconds. A must if you are leap frogging crapies.

I also have an old eskimo 10" the pilgrams brought over on the Santa Maria and it runs with out fail. I guess as long as I can get blades for it I will keep it as a back up, though the Jiffy cuts about twice as fast.

I guess as long as you are fishing that is the most important thing.

I have a 5 year old eskimo. It is real reliable, starts every time with out failing.

I was thinking of up grading to something that will open up partially frozen holes in the perm house a little better. But not sure if there is any that will do a better job than the one I have. Anyone have any ideas?

I have only had one auger but when I went to the two bladed bit on the old auger opening up old holes was much EZ'r but I have never run it side by side with any other models so I have no comparison, but if you can get a two bladed bit for your eskimo it should dril faster and smoother and you don't have to get a whole new auger

my first gas powered auger was an old tas power auger that had the blue mora bladei even had the reopening guides for it. now i own a strikemaster 8 inch and a lazer mag 10 inch both of which will be going to big lake for a preseason overhaul soon.

I have an Eskimo 8" auger that is 22 years old. Last day of the season the auger shaft split up near the top. so now I have to either buy an new auger bit or find a welder that can weld up the crack. It also still has the original blades on it. When it starts cutting hard all I do is file the blades and It's good to go again.

I think I got my strikemaster lazer mag 2hp for christmas in 1995. Still going strong! Broke a throttle cable last year. Other than that I have replaced the gas cap with the updated version and a spark plug every two years. Still runs like a champ!

I also use an old mag 2000. Where can one go to get a better auger blade, like the 2 blade lazer? thanks in advance for the help.

D-Rock Center in New Brighton could probably hook you up with that as well. Should be able to find them by searching D-Rock Center or D-Rock Ice Center.

I will say this, that mag 2000 will be a screamer through the ice with the twin lazer blades & power point! I've used a few that have been upgraded like this and they run awesome, even better than my newer Lazer Mag.

OH... My Auger- about 4 year old Strikemaster Lazer Mag Express 8".

I've got an older '93? Jiffy Artic Blast I bought from Fleet Farm ( Never seen them any where else so I think it was a FF exclusive). Works great to this day. Works so good in fact I bought the square hole attachment last year so the holes would match the hole in the floor in my shack. smirk.gif

I have a 7" Laser Mag. It has been very reliable and I got it for a good price. If I were to buy one today, I might choose the 4 stroke but most likely the 8" Electic by Strikemaster. I hate the spilled gasoline.

    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
