Deer-e-ere

Recommended Posts

Anyone see this new product to help with field dressing yet??? It's this tool that's supposed to make getting the anus, etc. out much easier when field dressing. According to the copy in the sportsmansguide catalog I got:

"Just stick the Deer-e-ere™ in and twist out your animal's anal canal...cut, tie off and the job is done."

I guess I've found it to be one of the least pleasant and trickier tasks of the whole process but not difficult enough for a separate tool just for that. Who knows though? Anyone use this before?

To learn more, just enter the name of the product followed by a dot and a you know what in your web browswer and you'll get their web site. There's even a video.

If I get one, I'll have to keep it in the utensils drawer in the kitchen next to the melon baller and such.

that looks pretty slick........of course how are you going to explain it to the guys at deer camp, " no seriously, you stick in the deers #$%, give it a twist and pull it out" Now imagine you are listening to one of your hunting buddies as they are telling you about this "tool", with the most serious look on their face, then they tell you the name.

I will probably get one for this year, my hagens bone saw got quite a work out last year. Most of the guys laughed at me until I went through the rib cage in about 5 seconds, and cut through the pelvic bone in less time.

I like how it sticks it back up there. Neat tool, and it looks like it works just fine.

WOW what are they going to think of next.... It would work pretty good also for creating a slot for garlic in a nice leg of lamb...

Did someone say LAMMMMMBBBB????

Exactly. They say on the web site to do so but the guy on the demo doesn't do it. What sense does that make? I may end up getting one as it does appear to make it easier and I don't normally split the pelvis when field dressing.

Its not really that hard to cut around the bung hole (if you have good sharp knife), pull the whole works out a couple of inches, and tie if off good. Then when you're gutting, work your hand up from the inside, grab that string and pull it out thru the inside. No dump on the meat, no hassle with cutting the pelvis. I personally don't like cutting the pelvis because it exposes a lot more meat to dirt, especially if you have to drag it a ways.

"Next they will have a tool to remove the bucks tool. Just grab it, cut around and pull out."

I know, I know but its America but I can get suckered into giving them $10 if I want to. People spend money on electric can openers and jar openers too. grin.gif
