What do you guys think of these new Triumphs from St. Criox?

I just got one of their Triumph 6' med lights from scheels, been using it for slab crappies and planning on using it for some walleye presentations. I really like 'em. Not to mention my top reel choice, the pfleuger president, sits on there like a champ! wink.gif I also don't think you can go wrong with an ugly stick, they've kept me fishing for YEARS, and with the price tag on them, I consider them a no brainer.

My Berkley Cherrywood has the most memories dont fish with it any more but I wont give it up. Wont even let the wife use it. But now it is my St Criox. Finally opened the wallet a couple of years ago and got one and for some reason now I have 3.

I have been using St Croix Avids for a number of years, that is until last year. I bought a Kistler Helium LTA half way through 05. I liked it so much I just ordered and received (great service) two more Kistlers.

I would have to say my St Croix Avid 6'2" medium extra fast. It's been a great rod for verticle jigging. However I just purchased a new Shimano Crucial 6'6" med fast for pitching jigs. I haven't used it yet, but I sure like what I see.

I used to use Berkley Series one rods. The only one that hasn't broken while setting the hook is the one I haven't used. I now use Berkley Cherrywood, Bass Pro and Cabelas rods. No more expensive rods for me. I don't baby them. shocked.gif

I have two favorites. I really like my Fenwick HMGs, I have a 6 ft light action, and a medium heavy casting model. But my favorite would have to be the St Croix avid series. I have numerous croix's for fly-fishing, open water, and ice fishing and for the price, you can't beat the avid series.

Hey DEADhead, it seems as if we think alike quite often. cool.gif

I use all Fenwicks. I have always looked at my fishing rods much as a golfer does his clubs. He would'nt have a bag of various brands of clubs. That being said, it would have to be my Techna AV 6'6" MH Pitchin' Rod or the 5'6" HMG pistol grip (just for the Spook!) and spinnerbaiting boat docks. That little dude will let you work a spinnerbait like a surgeon.

G-Loomis.... Hands down. No questions asked. I can't even compare the sesitivity, back bone and over all feel of my loomis rods to anything else I've fished with. Closest I guess would be my fenwick. My 6.5 med GLX out shines them all. GL-3 is a close second. The life time garrantee is also helpfull with a house full of toddlers. Last year my 4 year old slamed my Jeep door on the GLx and I got her replaced for 16.00. That is a 260.00 rod replaced for the modest cost of 16 dollars... Who is to say that won't happen again? I love the peace of mind as well as the performance. I think to have confidence in your tackle helps you to focus, and be a better overall angler. cool.gif

Depends on cost issue for me. If $ is an issue, then the Cabelas XML series is my choice. If $ is not the issue, then the St. Croix Legend Elite series is my pick for "top of the line" billing. I have used Loomis and Fenwick along with most others, but these are my personal preferences.

Rod replacement is an issue for sure. I get my Fenwicks from Doug as Virginia Surplus in Virgina. I have broken 3 or so rods, and I walk in the V. Surplus with a broken Fenwick, and along with a $5 bill, I walk out with a new one. THAT is good service, not only from Fenwick, but from Doug as well.

Whooo Boy....Hows about (2) 5' 2" 25 year old Berkley Lightning Rods for spinning outfits and (2) 5'6" Berkley Lightning Rod bait casters. grin.gif They are still my go-to rods as well as my 25 yr old LH Simano bantum bait casters. These short ones have great sensitivity, work great in the kayak and just don't seem to break. Using Power Pro is a new experience with them though, highly sensitive but have to be very careful setting the hook and know my drags are right.

That's (4) of the 14 or so I own. Most of the others are the lifetime warranty models I find at the stores bargain bins. Cabelas, Shimanos, Fenwicks, Ugly sticks up tp 10' 6" in ultra light to heavy. Break a lifetime Shimano and they have you cut it in pieces for cheaper shipping and send you a new one...NO COST except the shipping to them. Last yr. they screwed up and sent me the wrong one back, told me to keep it and sent the right one! grin.gif
