Opionins please, Lund Boat

Gissert

Question

I have a line on a 2001 Lund Mr. Pike 16 with a 90 horse Yamaha 2 stroke.

I am looking for comments and thoughts on this unit, as I am not familiar at all with this model boat or motor.

Thanks!

I own a 2003 Pro Angler 16, Yamaha 60 4 stroke.

It is the same boat as the Mr. Pike 16, less the steering wheel.

Thoughts to consider:

-has it been well taken care of?

-look at sides/bottom/trailer for signs of excessive wear.

-do you have a opinion on 2 stroke vs 4 stroke?

-tller or steering wheel?

-run the motor with a flusher.

-fair, good or great selling price?

-is 16' big/long enough?

I really like my boat, I did alot of looking before I bought.

This is my second Lund Boat and I have been happy with my choices. smile.gif

My understanding is it has only had about three tanks of gas thru it - Very lightly used. I don't know the details of how it was stored.

I would prefer 4 stroke, but a 2 stroke is not a show stopper.

It does have a wheel.

Selling price is very good.

16 foot would be adequate, although I would like a bit bigger boat. Basically, it will be just the wife and I and out daughter using it.

Being from NYM I'd have a tough time not buying a Lund. The Mr. Pike is a very nice boat from what I've seen, haven't heard too much about the Yamaha 2-stroke though. I have heard very good things about the 4-stroke. I'd jump at the opportunity if the price is good, assuming the rig is in good shape. Also, consider the weight rating of the trailer and make sure it is adequate.

That is a very nice boat. If the price is nice go for it. You will be extremely happy. I have a Lund 1650 pro-v and love it. Yamaha’s have always been an extremely good motor. You will have better hole shot and top end and less weight with the 2 stroke over the 4 stroke. I have a 60hp motor on mine and it gets me 30 mph gear and 2 people. It is a real solid built boat. Good luck

Gissert,

The Mr Pike is almost a stripped down Pro V. You still get the pro long livelwells (with the fill / empty / recirc valves) and just about all the bells and whistles of the Pro V.

Nothing wrong with the Yamaha 90 HP... they're pretty bulletproof motors... they sometimes idle a little rough.. but nothing terrible.

If the price is right I'd go for it...

I had a 17' Mr. Pike and my partner has a 16' Mr. Pike. Both are very nice boats to fish out of. I really liked mine, the only knock I had and it was the reason I sold it, was my wife would get soaked when we went out with any waves over 1 1/2-2'. It is a nice wide open layout, plenty of storage, great live wells but as said a fairly wet ride in waves. The 16' cannot accept the passenger side console, my buddy looked into that for his wife.

Good Luck!

Ken

My friend has a Lund Pro V. I think around a 18.5 or 19 foot with a 115 Yamaha 4 stroke. The aluminum skin caved in between a number of the ribs near the front of the boat. This happened while going fast on rough water. Lund would not fix it under warrentee. They said is was caused by running the boat on rocks! Is there anyone out there who cannot tell the difference between metal being bent by water as opposed to rocks? Anyone other than Lund that is.

GaryTheGuide on Lake Vermillion forum has same boat (but 2003) and motor and he's very happy with it, that's what he uses to guide people on the lake.

I have a 16' Lund Pro Sport (1997) and the power it has with a 90 is great you will appreciate that! It seems like alot of power but you can really get out of the hole and you don't have to run it at wide open so the gas goes a little further (not much!) I love my Lund only wish it would grow a little. My family is getting bigger now and it will have to go down the road and be replaced by a bigger lund in the next couple of years. But for 2-3 "fisherpersons" it has been a great sized boat.

Luckey, I think you can tell whether it was rocks or water. I don't think water leaves scratches but I bet rocks do. I just bought a Lund and no where have I read that if I pound the thing to death going fast in rough water they will cover the abuse. Good luck to your friend. confused.gif

I had a 2001 Pike 17 and absolutely loved it. The only down side is like Labs said passengers do get wet in rough water. But then again aren't most boats like that. Only reason I got rid of it was to upgrade to a 1800 Fisherman for more big water fishing on Superior otherwise I would still have it.

JapMaster, What boat did you get? Where did you get it from? Did you have it out on the water yet? We upgraded from a 16 foot Lund to a 18'6'' Ranger 2 years ago and have been extreamly happy with the new boat and also the customer service. Just curious to where you got it and what problems you are having... If you don't want to post here you can email me at dkz_75 at yahoo.com if you want too...
