Kirby Puckett

Mr. Pike1

What a wonderful role model for me as I grew up loving to play ceter field and watching the Twins. I can't say that there are many like him in this day and age in professional sports. He will always be remembered as a great athlete and maybe most of all a good person. RIP Kirby and thank you for all the memories.

Man I will never forget where I was during his Game Winning home run in Game 6. I was at a cousins wedding reception in Sandstone MN. Very sad to say the least. We will all miss him I have missed him ever since he retired. By far the greatest sports figure in MN.

Even though I was 7 at the time, I remembe being able to stay up late and watch the '91 series. I still get chills hearing "And we'll see you TOMORROW NIGHT!" and watching the catch off the plexiglass.

Sad day for Minnesota Sports and I am praying for his family and friends. Kirby was one of my heroes growing up.

Kirby will be missed by all baseball fans world wide. Truely an insperation to all kids who want to strive for the best. He was against all odds and became a hall-of-famer. I just so happened to be with Hrbek coming home from Canada when we found out of the stroke. Very sad note to leave on such a wonderful time. God Bless to all.. SB

Very few players it seems at the pro level play the game for the sake of playing. Kirby always made me feel like he would pay the fans to let him play. Puck will be remembered for a long time by many people as an example of how the game was meant to be played. This is as good a place as any for a string on him as I am sure many an hour in a shanty has been passed talking about Kirby..

Super Black- You mention being with Hrbek coming back from Canada. Are you a fishing buddy of his. He is another player I really admired growing up. He grew up in Bloomington, got to play for the hometown team, and take home a couple of world series rings. I know he also share the passion that all of us have on this sight the joy of the great sport of fishing.

Maybe you need to get Kent out to one of the FM events.

I can honestly say I think that whole group of players that came up together was really special. My wife who hates sports knows only 2 atheletes and what team they played for. Herbie and Kirby. Although I think she still thinks that they still play, when it was announced that Kirby passed away she was as sad as I was. God bless his sole and his family and friends.

Mr. Pike 1, I have been very forturnate to have known, fished, and hunted with Kent. He and his camera crew came up to the cabin on Rainy and we did have a blast, until we reached cell reception. Like I said before, a very sad note to leave on, while having such a good time on the Rainy. I would love to have Kent come up to an FM Event, problem is, he's a hard one to track down. We planned this trip for two years around his schedule. Lets all keep our thoughts and prayers going for Kirby's family and friends.....SB

I see a lot of replies that say he was such a great roll model. I sure like him as a ballplayer but a role model he is not. He certainly had his share of questionable activities that I think nearly everyone in this forum, if it wasn't for his status us a ballplayer, would frown on.

In my opinion, i do not think that most people would frown upon Kirby's actions. You must be a saint to be saying what you are. He was not only a true ambassador of the game and a true athlete (i.e no steroids, did not play for money, and worked harder than any guy out there) but he was a true supporter of MN and the local communities. You name any other player out there that does all of that. It really aggravates me when a great man and ballplayer tragically dies and you still have the people out there to point out his faults. Like i said i would like to meet you because you must be one heck of a man to be pointing fingers at "PUCK"
