Curados at the boat show 2/10

Hey guys,

Reed's has the last year's model of Curados for 1/2 price. $60 bucks for a Curado has me ready to drive to St Paul!! No Super frees, and it sounds like more lefty 101/201s than 100/200s. I love these reels, probably why I own 6 already!

Just wanted to pass along the word.....

I was just at Walmart in Shakopee and they had three or four Curado 200 (old style) on sale for $69.95. Just a heads up, I also found some tackle on clearance as well. Spiderwire original braid was also on clearance for $7 a spool.

I went to the Boatshow tonight before it closed and got some pretty sweet deals. Reeds had a few curados remaining but most were the low gear ratios which is fine for cranking etc. I think I got the last one that had a right hand retrieve and some of them were the bantams.

Thanks Svttom,

I went to the Shakopee Wal-Mart and picked up the last two they had in the case both right hand and 6:2:1 great buy. I tried to see if they had anymore but the person they had working the counter did not speak english very well and could not seem to understand my request to see if there were any in the back so I took what I could get. grin.gif

Start calling local Walmarts. But I'm sure most of them are gone. You should also be checking your local Walmarts anyways, as I just picked up some Spiderwire Original Braid from the Shakopee store for $7 and change. They have 10lb, 20lb, 40lb, and 60lb test. The 60lb test was a little more, like $12 a spool but still a deal either way. They also had some Termintator Tiny-T spinnerbaits for $1.50 and Strike King bleeding spinnerbaits (1/8 oz versions) for $1.00; there were a lot of knick-knack type plastics and cranks that were also on sale, I just can't remember to save my soul.

I just bought five 201's from Gaander in Maple grove this weekend. They are still priced at $99 but they matched walmarts price after calling them. They had a lot of Right handed ones left, I bought all the left handed(201's anyway, there are still the lower gears). You have to talk to the Fishing manager though. I tried the day before when he wasnt there and the manager that was in another dept told the kid behind the counter in the fishing dept that he could not sell them below cost, and the $69 would be well below that. I called the next day and talked to the fishing manager and it was no problem. $69!

Thanks for the heads-up on the Curados. Picked one up in Worthington today for 69.00. I bought the Bantam Curado CU-200. Only problem is that this was the last one and it was in the case and did not come with the box. Was wondering if anyone can tell me the gear ratio on this reel and explain the variable brake system and how it works. From what I understand this reel should have a 6:2.1 ratio. Just trying to make sure they didn't make the cu-200 in any other ratios. Any help would be great.

Yup, it's a 6.2:1. The VBS works as follows:

If you flip open the side cover, you'll see a "wheel" with six little, plastic weights around it's circumference. There are two positions for each weight, pushed in towards the center or pulled out away from the center. For each weight pulled out, it will provide more resistance to backlashes, but your casting distance will suffer a bit. I don't think it matters if you have them balanced, but I usually do (i.e. if two are pulled out, I make sure they're across from each other).

If you'd like, I could probably scan a copy of the manual and e-mail it to you. Let me know [email protected]

Thanks for the replies guys. I tell you what--if any of you can find a left handed Curado (new) like the ones everyone has been picking up recently I would gladly trade my right handed model for it. I've spent too many years trying to become comfortable with holding and presenting baits with my left hand. I'm switching to half lefties this year and am going to see if that won't make me happier. I just bought my new Curado Tuesday--has obviously never been used. Any takers?

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
