HELP - Disaster on the news last night

Just watched Mr. Drexler from Ice Castle deliver Jon's new fish house on channel 5. That was a great thing to do, hats off to ice castle and all who donated to help this young man. Just when I think I have lost all faith in man kind I find that there are more good people in this world than bad. I also want to thank the people at FM that set this up and allowed me to participate in such a worth while cause. Zent

Rick,

I think I speak for everyone, when saying “Thank You” for providing us the opportunity to make a negative turn into such a great positive. This really is a true family even though we know each other by handles.

I noticed Ice Castle got their 30 seconds of fame tonight on the news.

That is great you are going to Cabela’s tomorrow with Jon. But I think one more broadcast wouldn’t hurt. Public Organizations are gratified all the time for their help to people.

“FM” is just a goup of sportsman that deserves to be recognized when something good happens also.

I would say none of us want any individual recognition I know I don’t but what does it hurt to have group recognition.

I spoke with several people today kinda tooting the FM support that did not even know it existed.

NOTE: “Recognized” does not mean “Patronized”.

What a great feeling to please someone in need…

All you guys are great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you very much. I appreciate the kind words. However, it wasn't me who did this - It was all of you. All of you deserve the Thanks!!!

I realize that everyone here deserves recognition as a group. That's for sure. I was going under my own compass that says charity is it's own reward.

I'm sure all of us just wanted to get the money and replace his house to right the ship in his world. Part of me thought we would do it without the publicity or fanfare other than what we see of each other here.

Tomorrows trip to Cabelas is now old news and I knew that going in. They got their great visual and emotional impact of Jon getting his fish house. Any further than that is likely anti-climactic as far as they are concerned. KSTP did their part and I'm sure we are all happy they did. Think of the effect they had on so many of us and especially the Fenners.

Bottom line guys and I know all of you believe this.....

It's about the giving and helping that really make us feel good.

Recognition feels good too but truthfully that's not why any of us did this.

We wanted to help Jon Fenner feel better after his stunning loss and the hands of heartless vandals.

Just a ?. I am not very familiar to the situation other than what I have read here, the question I have is did they not insure the house? It sounded to be a retractable right? Just curious cause after he gets his new one he could also use the donated money to insure that if it happens again it will be replaced!!!

Good job to all that donated and to Rick for starting the donation page and taking him to Cabela's. I am hoping he gets all he wants/needs (vex. auger top of the line poles and reels) to enjoy his fishing expierence. FEELS GREAT TO BE PART OF THE FM FAMILY!!! cool.gif

Jon's Brother in-law just called me to tell me that the culprits were caught. I had Jon Fenner and his friend right behind me at the time. That's great news.

I would like to Thank Dave Lueth and Scott Robbins of Cabelas and Cabelas for rolling out the red carpet for Jon. They gave a large discount on everything Jon got and donated a Turkey hunting blind to him.

Jon got a lot of gear including an auger that he can work with one hand and a MarCum LX5. Special boots and even those were very difficult for him to put on. Anyway, I believe he has replaced most of his gear that was lost if not more.

It's hard to put in words the feeling when you see Jon go through so much effort to do the things we all take for granted. All of you should feel very good about yourselves. Jon is one deserving fellow angler.

Jon will be ready to go fishing this weekend and we had over $1000 left after we finished getting the fishing gear he needed. $600 of the extra went to getting his bunks installed and the special chair he needs. The rest was given to him as part of the reward fund. I wasn't sure what to do. The check had been made out already and then came the news. I told all of you the extra would be used for the reward fund so I really have to follow through with that and it is still going to be sent by Jon to the Chisago County Sheriff's office.

Jon is a very happy person right now. I believe all of you have welcomed a new Fishing Minnesota family member in the best sort of way. He is absolutely overwhelmed.

I told him it was likely that some of you would want to get him out fishing after he indicated he wanted to post here in the forums. He and his sister had become members this morning before I met him.

Words can't tell you how I feel about all of you and your contributions.

THANK YOU!!!!

Hello Everyone at Fishing Minnesota!

I would like to take a few minutes to THANK YOU ALL from the bottom of my heart for all the support you have shown my brother, Jon Fenner. Jon is having troubles getting on to the computer at home, but he wanted me to thank everyone, and he wanted me to let you know he will be posting soon. His friends took him fishing tonight!

I see you are all talking about these two yahoo's getting caught! I was so happy to hear they were turned in, this is all my family really wanted! I would really like to see them get jail time and pay something. I Guess we will have to see what happens. Hopefully other outdoorsmen and women who suffered a theft or vandalism will get justice along with Jon.

I want to let you know, Fishing Minesota made Jon's day when you took him to Cabellas. He called me on the way home and I could imagine the HUGE smile on his face. He said Rick was a wonderful guy and was excited to meet others from FM. We all can not beleive how many nice people there are in Minnesota, especially all the fishermen and ladies who came to Jon's aid. Jon is so greatful to all of you!!! We all are! We never imagined all this would have happened. I do have to say, in my opinion you could not have picked a more deserving person to help out. He always puts others before his needs, even after his health issuse began. It was so wonderful to see others looking out for him.

I could go on and on but I just wanted to make sure all of you know how much you have touched our hearts and changed our lives forever. Thank you again and I look forward to sharing fishing stories with all of you. Jon's email is [email protected] and I promise I will have him on the computer soon. (He needs a little assistance in this area!...LOL)

MNFishergirl (Heidi Buegler [Fenner])

I posted this in two areas because I want to make sure all of you get a chance to read it. Thank you again for everything!

Man, I just got done reading through many posts, because i never heard about the story.

I am super happy to hear of an excellent outcome! I really hope the fisherman in the area notified the police of the breakin's so they can try and claim some of their equipment back!

Justice would be served if the members could have a round or two from these two young gentleman in the boxing ring! My guess is they are not outdoorsmen, but probably would have just made a trip to a few pawn shops!

Rick, and the members of FishingMN are such great people you can always count on! Such a great deal to have you as a part of an extended family!

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
