What is your preferred Knot?

I agree with HawgMan....The polomar knot is the best knot out there!!! I have been to many seminars done by the top pros on tour...and if Kevin Vandam says its the best knot out there how can you argue.

I grew up using the Trilene knot, and I found this knot to be not as durable, and even to break on the hookset. On the other hand, I have cut down the times that line has broken at the knot to only a few times a year.

With braided lines I do a double polomar knot and then put a dab of super-glue on the knot to prevent any slippage.

This is what I have experienced in my fishing, and I have learned from some of the top pros that I have talked with!!!

Saw one on Jimmy Houston several years back. It is a double clinch, usually used for braids. Basically, like some have stated, a combo between a polomar and a clinch (Not improved clinch), but make 6-8 turns around the main line. I have yet to have a knot break with this combo. Try it. grin.gif

Palomor hands down. Not only is this an easy but strong knot, its an easy knot for kids to learn. I used to teach fishing to kids at Camp Courage and it worked out great. The steps are easy for them to retain.

I use the both palomar and improved clinch knots, I feel that they are about equal and work best for different lures. the palomar is basically easier to tie, however it can be difficult to get a big rapala with three sets of trebles through the loop. I will generally use an improved clinch for big baits and a palomar for jigs, plain hooks, and other small lures. I prefer the blood knot for tieing two pieces of line together

I used to always tie a clinch knot; I still find it easier and faster, for me, to tie than a palomar knot. Lately I have been tying mostly palomar knots, probably do to fishing less finese situations than I used to. For splicing line or tying on leaders I tie a double uni knot, for mono of the same diameter then a blood knot is okay.

Deitz what is a double palomar knot? Is it like it sounds, you just repeat the knot process twice?

I have always used a trilene knot. My dad took me to the sports show when I was a kid and there was a presentation about how these guys caught the world record great white shark using a trilene knot. So we learned how to do it and that's all I ever used. And I never really thought about other knots. But this palomar knot sounds really good. Much easier to tie and everyone here sounds like they are swearing by it. I will have to try it out.

POLOMAR KNOT all the way, the ease of it matched with the strength can't be beat.I teach all my clients the polomar knot. The only time I use anything different is when panfishing and that is because those lures and hooks are so dang small.

I prefer the "WILL-NOT", it's a knot that "will not" come undone. grin.gif
