"structure on a string" SOS

I seen this post the last few days and never read it...just saw the topic but didn't click on it. Finally I figured I better see what this post is about because it's sticking near the top. This is interesting.

Usually I'm the biggest skeptic about new things. But right away I thought this is a great idea. I think it would be fun to try it at mille lacs or any lake that does not have much for weeds. Its just something a little different...that offers a little cover...which could make a big difference in areas where there is very little cover by drawing in the fish. I know I have fished on top of brush piles before and unless you were right on or near the brush pile you wouldn't have nearly the axtion.

Do they have these things at Gander Mountain or Fleet Farm? I'll have to admit I tend to stick to the smaller mom and pop shops that don't always carry this sort of thing. Thanks.

I'm guess you could save a few $$$ doing it yourself.

I'm going to give them a try and if they work, i might try to make a few.

The plant itself is around 10 bucks.

I looked on PetSmarts page and found only the LIVE plant. That is indeed what I was referring to. I'm gonna DIY and test it out on Knife this weekend.

I'm thinking of trying "CTOS" (christmas tree on a string) My question is: Should I buy one that already has the lights on it, or a plain one?

I asked my dad, and since we wont be icn this weekend he said we could try to DIY a couple of these. smile.gif

Do you guys think that if they were suspendes that they would still attract fish? Its not natural (At least i dont think) so it seems odd.

I heard about Ladredge two years ago and wouldn't take them on board. I relly thought it was a gimmick.

Last year I still wouldn't take them on board but agreed to get a few bunches and let some of our staff try it out.

Let's be clear "I'm not saying they will work in any other situation or even in the situation I was in last year on URL"

I am saying I was the skeptic who wouldn't even use them and our staff was yukking it up as they were using them in tightly controlled areas and skipping around to differant holes.

It didn't take them long before they were homing in on the Ladredged holes. After couple of hours watching the Ladredged holes outfish me I still thought it was just that the Ladredged holes were on a better location.

I decided what the heck, put a few around me where the fishing was slow. It wasn't 5 minutes and I was keeping up with the other Ladredged holes.

Now that being said, that was only one occasion and not proof enough in my book to say yep these babies are for real. However I am no longer a skeptic either.

"I want to hear here how it works for you guys as you try them out".

I have my 5 pack now.

The proof will be in what all of you who have Ladredge have to say.

Lund- just give them a call. they can do whatever you are willing to pay for smile.gif they are great to work with and really fair with the pricing on custom work.

As far as trout waters go, i plan to give it a shot, so I also ordered mine with 60 foot cords instead of the 40...

I have on URL. I believe they definitely helped hold the crappies.

Numbers of users saying the same thing this season will help convince me further.

I'm still very curious as to how they work under differant conditions for crappies as well as how well they work under differant conditions for differant fish.

Looks like a number of folks have them and we should be finding out how well they work over the next few weeks.

Picked up a five pack and a camera weed Friday at thorne bros on my way to mille lacs.

I was set up with my small weedbed by 3:00 P.M.

I intentionally set up away from my normal spots.

I set up the weeds in a cresent moon pattern on the end of my 4'x 8'. I spaced them about 2 feet apart.

On the other end of the shack I put the camera down with the weed attatched pointing towards the weedbed. The camera was about 7 feet away. I was in 16' of water on rocks.

I used a fathead on one rig, "bobber" and a small spoon on the other rig tipped with a mousy, "jiggin".

The perch moved in and took up residency. They watched as I watched. No matter what I presented, they were having none of it. I checked the barometer and found the pressure to be low. Before I called it a day, as the light conditions were getting poor, the perch scattered and I noticed some walleyes moving in and around the weeds eyeing my presentations. All they would do is sniff at my bait.

Saturday proved to be much of the same as far as fish hanging around.

The only differance was the barometer was more favorable towards a good bite... grin.gif.

I kept 10 perch and 4 walleyes. The perch were in the 10 inch range and the walleye's were 16", 16", 16" and 18".

Did the weeds make a differance? I don't know. It's not unusal for perch to hover around my bait or camera although they did seem to hang around longer with the weeds.

Would I have normally fished or tryed the spot I did?

No, I would of been deeper during the day and moved into about 18 feet for the evening.

Was my catch unusal for me?

No, but sitting in one spot was. I like to hunt for fish.

I like the adventure associated with it. I felt content watching fish come and go, changing presentations to see what might trigger a strike.

The weeds did look natural although I was on some beautiful rocks.

This is my first experiance with the weeds but I found them to be very easy to use. I read in another post from Hanson to get some sort of plastic container to store them in and transport, good idea.

I'm just sharing my first experiance with the weeds here.

I will continue to use them and will share results.

Good Luck...

    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
