So what is it that you guys like to eat while your out on the lake? Id like to munch on Beef jerky, sunflower seeds, and of-course a good bowl of chili, or beef stew. Anyone got any good recipies to share with us? smirk.gif

I usually have a full case of Mich Golden Light, Some Cheddar & Cracker Combos, Doritos w/hot salsa, a few sandwiches, a couple of steaks, porkchops, beans, etc. That will all change when I get a oven/stove in the house though. It'll be like Emerill with a case of beer out there on the lake!

Hoggs, send me a picture of your fish house and let me know what lake you are going to be on! We used to have brats, eggs, fried taters n onions in the duck blind... sounds like we could cook that up at ur place soon as ya get the stove! PS... I am a good cook as well... Have a good one and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo

Oh, just curious, aren't you afraid of getting a DUI after polishing off a case of beer? blush.gif

Thermos with hot coffee (enriched with a little somethin' somethin'), a couple of sandwiches, sticks/jerky, and cigars.

I love to cook, but I don't mess around with much while fishing-- just keep the hunger pangs at bay.

For me I'm generally fishing in a portable. So it's peanuts, ven. jerky, sandwiches, diet coke or a miller light. Sometimes if a group of us are fishing all day I'll throw in a small portable gas grill and do brats and polish as well.

Oh, of course I bring along a bottle of buttershots to toast the fish I catch. I never drink much as I like to keep my wits about me.

I find that I don't eat or drink much when fishing whether on the ice or in a boat. I'm just too intensly focused on fishing to engage in those activities. laugh.gif

Depends on the length of the trip really. Local lake after work, maybe a couple beers or pops, bag of Combo's or seeds... Saturday all day fishing with the gang, thats a different story. Gotta bring the Weber, Hamburgers, Buns, Chips, Cheesy hashbrown potatos, (my wife makes it, cause shes so excited to get rid of me for the day), Deer sticks, Beer/Pop, thermos of Coffee (also with a little "somethin somethin" in it).... Last year one day we grilled Deer Tenderloins wrapped in bacon. WOW, something about it on the lake makes it even better...

Pickle (no pickles necessary) grin.gif

RECIPIES -

I havent seen any posted yet, so I thought I would try one... Last weekend I used Phesant, but you can pretty much use anything. I usually use my left over Walleye that have been cooked in either Crunchy Southern, or Fry Magic... Anyway, here ya go...

1 Pound browned Spicy Italian (ground) sausage

Left over Fish fillets (cooked) (deer, phesant whatever)

1 Tomato diced

1 green pepper diced

1 med onion diced

4 sticks diced celery

1 red pepper diced

1 can mushrooms

1 package Zatarains Jambalaya Mix

Season to taste (cajun seasoning, pepper, salt, Lowry etc..)

Pretty much follow the directions on the Jambalaya mix box. Add a little more water though to keep it from getting too thick. There are alot of ways to make it to your own taste, but I like it hot. I put a little Jalapeno juice in it as well...

Northlander:

No way...you did not just mention the nut brown out of Ashland did you?

Went to school there, and the depot was phenomenal before it burnt down. Wish I could get it around here. Their beer cheese soup is the best i've had.

hungry in mn,

Joel

See that alot of you guys chew seeds on the ice. And yeah, the dill pickle seeds out of Canadia are great spits.

What's your view on spitting them on the ice? Is it littering? Any environmental concerns? Do you guys just use a spitter? They're biodegradeable, but make a mess. I'm on the fence, looking to hear what you think.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned peanuts yet! (Unless I just missed it). Salted in the shell peanuts bought in bulk from the grocery store are my favorite for ice fishing. I also bring Heineken, Mountain Dew, and water to drink...jerky, chips and hot dogs/brats if I'm out for awhile. I am definitely going to have to bring some chili along to heat up on the cooker this year too. I have even reheated pizza on the ice when I was really anxious to get out and didn't want to take the time at home.

Jnelson we are lucky in the Duluth/Superior area. We have a lot of good micro breweries. South Shore just happens to be my favorite. The Nut Brown is great and the stout is also real good. Let me know when your thirsty and Ill send ya some down. My local shop has them both.

Plus when we hit Ashland for Coho and Smallies in the winter we sometimes have lunch there and get some goodies to go home. You are correct the beercheese soup is great.
