New GPS

I finally purchased a new GPS. I found a garmin gps 72 at the farm for $151.99. Not a bad deal antil I went to Gander for the Lakemaster software. What A price shock that was!

I have been hearing alot of good things about the H2O here and the sales guy convinced me to return the 72 and buy an H2O. So I head to the checkout to pay for the H20 and the lakemaster card. The cashier rings me up and the H2O is priced at 169.99 (reg 229.99). A sweet deal and I think I'll be alot happier with this package as well.

This thing is amazing. I checked the spot I fished on winnie last year at the iceleader "get together/tourney". If only I had it then. If your thinking of upgrading or buying for the first time I would seriuosly consider this combo. The best part is if I decide to buy a lowrance mapping depth finder next summer, wait a minute, when I buy a lowrance depth finder nest summer I can use the same lakemaster card. smile.gif

Yup, the lakemaster chip is a $100.00.

Like I said I was expecting $229.00 like the sign said, Either it was a lucky brake or the right time to buy. probably a little of both!

I saw they had dropped the prices on the H2O. So I asked the salesman since I had heard some talk of it but there is supposed to be a colored display unit coming out shortly around the next couple months. So I decided to hold off purchasing one right now.

So are these new color displays expected to replace the current H20 or will we have a choice? I would like to see the color model first but I think I would be happy with the current H20, especially at that price. I would hate to wait to see the colored display and then not be able to get the current model.

I also checked into the color display ifinder and ended up going with the H2O. Cabelas will have the color version of the Hunt ifinder available to ship at the end of this month. I was also told these were supposed to have been out early this year. I talked to a guy at Scheels in Mankato who had seen the new color ifinder and he said the batteries last about 2 hours with the color, as opposed to about 12 with the black and white. The color would be great if you always had a cig plug in for it. For ice fishing this isn't always the case so I went with the H20. Great units all around but I'm not sure how practical a battery powered color unit would be. If anyone gets their hands on one let us know what you think. One other thing, they have a unit called the ifinder PHD that has a color display and plays MP3s.

GPScity.com has the H2O's for $139.95!

I have the Lakemaster map card for my X15 and the card itself would make it worth getting the H2O.

I have heard that one advantage of color over LCD is that the color doesn't have the reaction to cold like the LCD does.

airjer,

I saw the same thing on Lowrance's web-site after I posted. If they figured out how to get 12 hours out of a color unit I'll be kicking myself for not waiting for it. I have a hard time believing a color display pulls the same juice as a black and white. When I turn the light on in my H2O I'll be lucky to get 2 hours out of it. I think the color display is automatically lit by nature of it being color. I have a Lowrance color sonar and it is always lit, no need to turn on the backlight. It would be great if we could get a report from someone who's actually had the chance to use one.

I just bought the iH20 in August with the lakemaster chip. After tax it was around $350 for the combo. I am definitely selling the iH20 when the color one comes out. I found out there was going to be a color version in September, after it was too late to return mine! Otherwise, it rules!

For all you ifinder users, I have a question. I posted this in the equipment forum with little luck so I'll try here. Is there a way to connect the ifinder to a computer and see your position on the computer? I was able to do this with my Magellan Sport Track and the Mapsend Topo software. It was really cool on a laptop while driving. If so, can you also print the lake maps if you have your chip loaded?
