Explorer & Shoreland'r

cartfan

Question

I was wondering if anyone else is having the same problem I am. I have a 1700 Lund Explorer and a Shoreland'r SLR 23. The boat always loads to the left side. It would take a few attempts on getting it right before I bought bunk guides. Usually loaded far enough to the left that it sat on the wheel well. I think the problem has to do with balance of the boat. I noticed it leans to the righ when its sitting in the water. And is even worse when I'm sitting in it and trying to drive it on the trailer. That seems to push the boat to the left side. I loaded it with another person sitting next to me and for the first time it loaded to the right and was leaning against the right bunk guide. I follow the Shorland'r advise and put the trailer in the water just so that the brake light housing is at or just below the water level. Again, I think its happening because the boat isnt sitting level. Any thoughts?

I have a Fishhawk 1750 and a Karavan and have the same issues. I also have added bunk guides ons, tried different trailer depths and stand in the middle when driving it on. It still loads crooked half the time.

Lately, I've been driving the boat on the trailer, attaching the strap, get out, let the boat back all the way out with the winch and then crank it back on straight. It's been working pretty well and only takes a minute.

I'm sure nothing bad would happen with a tilted boat, aside from possibly getting a little uneven tire wear, but it drives me nuts for some reason.

Must be something in the water...I have a 1775 Pro-V and a 2800# E-Z Loader and it always loads over to the port side. I have tried everything concerning the depth of the rollers in the water and it still loads over to the port side. It even ticks me off to follow somebody that has their boat centered on the trailer. Looks like I'm not alone. "Misery loves company."

Same problem here. When I added a kicker motor to my 18' Fisherman on port it likes to hang over on the starboard side of the trailer. I found that if I fill up the aft starboard livewell then it evens out fairly nicely when I load it. The other option is to have the wife pull on a line attached to the aft port cleat while I winch the boat up.

as long as the boats not touching anything it shouldn't, it isn't a big deal except for the fact it looks stupid in the rear view mirror and then the possible laughter on the road from all the "straight" loaders......

I got the boat last year and always thought I was doing something wrong when loading. But then I saw the back of the boat sitting in a marina and noticed it was leaning to the right. Kind of ticks me off. A boat that is that big and costs as much as it did, doesnt event sit level in the water.

my question may be a bit off the subject, but I once heard you want to have the very back rollers to be at leat a few inches towards the front of the boat, while it's on the trailer. Is this true? If so, would I just need to adjust the post and push it towards the boat a little?

Thanks

Last three boats have been lunds with roller trailers of all different brands. They all seem to do this no matter what you do.It does seem to help to only have the trailer in the water up to the lights and as level as possible before loading.Bunk trailer would possibly be the only solution but then you are limited to only using the deeper acesses.Burl.

I have a 1800 explorer with karavan and had the same problem. I drive the boat on the trailer until I can get the chain on and then kill the motor and crank it on the rest of the 2 feet by hand. I have no idea why, but it goes on straight everytime this way. I have been doing this since early june and have not had it go on crooked yet. Just my .02.

I can dido that. I have a Fisherman that when I load I never winch it up tight before taking out of the water. Leave about 6-8 inches away from the front. This gives the boat an opportunity to straighten itself when you pull it out of the water. Then finish cranking it up. Works for me.

Mine leans a bit towards the councel when Im in it. I took and moved weight around and its much better. My boat goes on my Yacht Club trailer straight almost every time. I crank it up 75% of the time. I put the trailer in so the wheel wells are out of the water. Tires are about 3/4th way in. Much easier to crank in.

cartfan, I thought that may have been the case when I was unable to get it on straight at first but since I have loaded the boat the way I explained earlier I have not noticed it lean one way or another. It looks and seems to be sitting level!

1850 fishhawk with a 2800lb. E-Z loader trailer same problem. Loads same exact way no matter if I crank it up or power load trailer. Have a buddy with a 1750 sportfish and he has the same problem as the rest of us. Speaking with people at the landings I have come to realize that this is a problem for most boats and trailers no matter what brand either are. Most I talked with learn to live with it and the others are in the process of "tweaking" their trailer. Very frustrating.

Just a thaught, but have you guys taken a look at your rollers and made sure that they havent moved on you trailer frames. I had one set of rollers loosen up and slide toward the wheel. I thought I was going to go nuts trying to figure out why I could not get the boat loaded straight. Did a complete inspection with the boat off the trailer and found the problem. Just moved the rollers back into the proper possition and tightened them back up. Problem fixed. Again just a thought.
