NEW MARCUM LX-5 COMING!!!!

I just found out that Marcum will be coming out with a new flasher this year called the LX-5. They sent me this e-mail about the new features of the unit. "We have added a Dual Cone Transducer With 8 and 20 degree cone. We have increased the power to 2000 watts and added 6 more IR settings along with the most exciting change which is called true color. Our engineers have discovered a new lighting system that is far superior to any thing that has ever been on the market. The colors are now Yellow Red And Green. There also is a new feature called super fine line which enhances the entire range of view and separates the targets even more!" They should have pictures of it out on the web by mid-september.

Now it makes sense why all the LX-3's are on sale right now.

This sounds like some exciting news for Marcum lovers.

Finally you'll get a graph that produces colors like my Vexilar FL-18 cool.gif

The LX-3 is a great unit and I have seen it in use. If this new LX-5 gets out soon, I'm betting the farm that it will be a hot seller like the new Lowrance 332c that came out this past spring!

Here are the specs on the new LX5.

LX-5 Ice System – This new three-color sonar flasher has a patent pending TrueColor display. TrueColor is the latest from MarCum Technologies improving color separation and resulting in an ultra crisp and highly visible display (even in bright sunlight). The new LX-5 is the most powerful, most sensitive, most feature laden flasher ever designed. Manufactured in the USA, this sonar unit boasts 2,000 watts of peak to peak power. The LX-5 comes standard with a dual beam transducer. To switch between the 8 and 20 degree cone angle is as simple as the touch of a key. The unit has a patented adjustable multi-level “Interference Rejection” feature that allows the user to knock out interference from other nearby sonar units. The LX-5 incorporates a patented movable zoom feature that allows the user to zoom in on a segment of water anywhere within the water column. This unit also features another of MarCum Technologies latest break throughs, Super Fine Line. The Super Fine Line feature allows the user to improve the units resolution resulting in target separation down to 1 inch. You can now use the unit in its full display and separate those hard to see bottom hugging Walleyes. The LX-5 Ice System includes an embroidered padded soft pack carrying case, 12 volt – 7 amp battery, fully automatic three stage digital charging system with LCD battery display, electronics shuttle with adjustable transducer arm, dual beam 8 and 20 degree self aligning transducer, gimbal bracket, powercord, and LX-5 powerhead.

Mr Seagaur, you can get that LX-1 for 225 now it sounds like. There you go, a basic flasher, good one too at just over 200 beans eh.

That LX-5 sounds interesting so I guess I'll be sporting one of those. Hopefully they will be availiable by November.

Marcum has a basic Flasher the LX1 ice system. The LX1 ice system will be replaced by the LX2 ice system in the Marcum ice fishing lineup. The LX1 is a very nice unit I used one quite a bit just to check it out. Were for $225.00...they were $319.00. Units are brand new. Great unit with 1500 watts of power and IR that works great. It's much easier to read than the competitors model too. Many anglers will find the LX1 a great tool. Here's the specs on the LX1 ice system. You'll still be able to get a LX1 open water system

With 1,500 watts of peak-to-peak power, this powerful unit delivers incredibly detailed readings of the area beneath the 20° self-aligning transducer. The adjustable multi-level interference rejection enables you to clean up the display and eliminate scrambled signals from other units nearby. Plus, the 2.15" target separation enables you to identify bottom-hugging walleye and differentiate between a small school of crappie and a large group of baitfish. The system includes the LX-1 powerhead, gimbal bracket, electronics shuttle with adjustable transducer arm, self-aligning transducer, power cord, and a 12-volt, 7-amp battery and charger.

Many will like the new LX2. Here are its specs.

LX-2 Ice System – This new sonar unit offers superior features at an affordable price. Featuring the new “Auto Zoom” mode which automatically sets the zoom window to the bottom 5 or 10 feet, your choice. The LX-2 has 1,000 watts of output power and offers a patented “Interference Rejection” system that knocks out interference from other nearby sonar. The unit comes in a 600 denier PVC backed embroidered soft pack carrying case, electronics shuttle with adjustable transducer arm, 12 volt – 7 amp battery, battery charger, self aligning 20 degree transducer, power cable, gimbal bracket, and LX-2 powerhead. Unit sells for $319.00 I believe.

Or the new LX3tc- Same unit as the LX3 with the addition of TrueColor display. $399.00

This new three-color sonar flasher has a patent pending TrueColor display. TrueColor is the latest from MarCum Technologies improving color separation and resulting in an ultra crisp and highly visible display (even in bright sunlight)

And of course there are still some LX3's this unit has been the standard for ice fishing for 3 years. This unit has been discontinued and is now on closeout for $300.00. Heck of a deal the unit sold for $400.00. This unit has been replaced in the Marcum lineup by the LX3tc I mentioned above. Here's the LX3's specs.

The most sensitive and powerful flasher ever manufactured. With 1500 watts of output power, the LX-3 provides superior target separation. the LX-3 is the only system that features an adjustable zoom that allows a 5 to 10 ft. zoom window in the 20 & 40 ft. scale, a 10 to 20 ft. zoom in 80 ft. scale and a 20 to 40 ft. zoom in 160 ft. scale. Target separation improves from 2.15" to 1" in zoom mode. Surface to bottom zoom window adjustability allows user to display suspended as well as bottom hugging fish. The LX-3 also offers a multi-level "interference rejection" feature allowing user to knock out interference from other nearby sonar units.

Happy fishing!!!

Wow! I am glad to see MarCum advancing the line. Like I've always said, a little one up-mans-ship between the two big flasher vendors only benefits us the consumer. Both technology-wise and price-wise. Look at the deals we can get now on what are some super good flashers. $300 for an LX-3! That's what a used one was going for last winter.

I'm anxious to see the LX-5. I really like this concept of true color. A flasher you can see plain as day in direct sunlight is very appealing to me. However, I can see my LX-1 and LX-3 readouts pretty darn well in direct sunlight, not perfect, but a lot better than all the older units.

Will there be anyway for us current LX-3 owners to get a color upgrade without selling and buying new? I have had the LX-3 for a couple of years now and absolutely love everything this unit can do on the ice, the only downside all along was the color. I think I even e-mailed marcum a while back wondering if they were ever going to make any color changes and at that time the answer was no. So, I think this is an excellent move on Marcum's part but it would also be nice to have the new color without having to sell and buy again.

just my thoughts.

Pete, you sly guy you wink.gif

This new unit will truly set the bar as being the ultimate flasher unit. In recent years, the LX-3 has been my closest fishing partner when out on the ice, now it looks like I'll have a new best friend in the LX-5 smile.gif

Now, only if we had a little ice... grin.gif

Sounds like an awesome unit. I just bought an LX-3 from Cabelas earlier this year. Don't they allow you to return anything you purchase there and upgrade or am I dreaming. It might be for Club members only. Anyone have an idea?

I sent Vexilar and e-mail to see if they were coming out with any new products or updates for this winter. Here is the e-mail they sent me:

There are no new additions or upgrades for this Fall or Winter except for the new Pro Pack II. The Pro Pack II has a larger handle that's stronger and sturdier. It also comes with a Vexilar tackle box. We also have a new color graph, the Edge 3. That's about it for new product coming out.

Looks like they are not going to try and compete with Marcum this winter. I still love my Vex though.

Phenomenal. Looks like they've listened to anglers and one-upped themselves. I sent an email to Marcum last winter evaluating my lx-3.

I used the lx-3 religiously this past winter and fell in love with the thing. I felt the only edge that my older vexilar had was the colors. They seemed brighter and more distinct to my eyes. But with the better target separation the lx-3 helped me "see" what was going on down there a whole lot better.

I'm eager to get the new lx-5, I just hope they don't price people out of the market with this new and improved unit.

Well now this makes things difficult for me. I finally decided to go with an LX-3 as opposed to the FL-18 and my plan was to pick one up late this fall after I got my Christmas gift from work (a Gander or FF gift card). Well now I have to decide between the LX-3, the LX-3tc, and the LX-5. The two main things I liked about the FL-18 were the colors and the option for a dual beam ducer. Well now the FL-18 is completely out of the question and the LX-5 is just what I want. However, the attractive price makes me wonder if I should just get a great deal on an LX-3 because I know I will be happy with that since it's what I was going to get in the first place. I may even just get the LX-3 and keep it in the box so I can sell it if I decide to go with an LX-5 a couple months from now. Is it a safe bet that the LX-5 will retail for around 500? Man I don't know what to do and I probably don't have long to decide with the LX-3 at that price. In any event, the LX-5 is definitely going to be the top dog when it comes to locators. I can't wait to see it!

The LX-3 is an outstanding flasher unit. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the LX-3 and I wouldn't worry about making the choice to buy the LX-3 in recent years or even more recent than that. If you have the LX-3 right now, that's awesome, there is no need to change unless you feel like the LX-5 is what you really need. Right now I use the LX-3, and I have for the past years since it came onto the market, and I'd still consider it to be one of the best units out there, even with the new addition of the LX-5. The LX-5 is designed for the extreme ice fishing diehards who are willing to spend the extra money to buy the new and improved piece of equipment, but it's not going to be an essential piece of equipment in your ice fishing arsenal. While it might very well become the best unit on the marker, the LX-5 is just another option that MarCum provides, but it's not the only option, and it's not the only option that works to help you become a better angler.

Just like anything out there, there is always something better and new that comes out. Every company, and in every genre, will experience this, it's how companies improve and keep up the pace. Automotive companies come out with a new model of car or truck every year. The new model has improvements and it's the "state-of-the-art," but that doesn't mean that everyone needs it, or that everyone goes out and buys the new model every year. Yes, it might be better than last years model, but that doesn't count out the older models one bit, and they still get used and perform. Not to mention some prefer the older model over the new one. This is the same with the LX series of units from MarCum.

I'm not trying to downgrade the LX-5, because it's going to be a very nice flasher unit and it will set a new bar in 3-color flasher units, but don't feel like you made a poor investment in choosing the LX-3.

The LX-3 is, and will be, well above par for a flasher unit.

Good Fishin,

Matt Johnson

I think its kind of like the GMC commercial, not more than you need, just more than your used to.

LOL! You are definitely correct.

If I was an icefisherman on somewhat of a tight budget, I'd be running out to get an LX-3 right now. The 'old' LX-3 is one heck of an awesome flasher.

It sure looks like Vex is going to be playing catch up now. grin.gif
